Another Challenger?

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel will face a furious political backlash if he refuses to empower a civilian oversight board to fire the police superintendent and establish police policy or attempts to stall a City Council vote until after the 2019 mayoral election, Police Board President Lori Lightfoot warned Tuesday.

Sounding more and more like a mayoral challenger, Lightfoot embraced the sweeping proposal drafted by the Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability (GAPA) and warned Emanuel to get on board a “ship that is sailing.”

“The mayor endorsed this process two years ago….Any effort to stall it and not let it see the light of day, not engage in the City Council process….will be met with extreme, extreme hostility. And it will be taken out on them in February of 2019,” Lightfoot said.
Wouldn't it be amazing to see Rahm come in third in the next election? Lightfoot has the potential to split a sizable portion of the black vote, this despite her having run the old OPS into irrelevancy. If McCarthy isn't bought off, he could take a chunk of the city workersand maybe some "revrunds" who remember so-called "lower crime" via crooked CompStat counting. One decent Hispanic candidate and Rahm is suddenly a lame duck with no identifiable voting bloc.

Hey, we can dream, can't we?

I do believe he is going down. Poll out today said 57 percent of voters want to replace him. He’s pissed off way too many people and the city is worse off than when he started.

You’ve also got another black guy running. A tech guy who sold a company and he’s only 30 years old. Neal Sales Or something?

Everyone is coming to get him. Maybe he wins? Or maybe his internal polling tells him to fold up and drop out before he gets in.

All I know is that every dead relative I have will be voting against him, if you know what I mean.

A decent Hodpanic candidate OR Paul Vallas.
I feel for Paul Vallas with the very recent tragic death of his son.
If he still has the fire in his belly this election is there for the taking if Vallas chooses to run.
Bye Rahm. Karma is a motherfucker.

Lori Lightfoot needs to resign from the police board. She is not an impartial member and has a biased view toward police officers. The FOP should demand that she resign or the city council should remove her. As a police officer, you can not and will not get a fair hearing from her.

We agree, no one wants Lightfoot. But when they keep calling a run and getting past you, STACK THE BOX!

The more, the merrier. Imagine if Rahm didn’t make it to the runoff? His detail will be walking off on him before the new mayor is sworn in.

Imagine voters demanding of two candidates not named Rahm to take away his detail after he’s done as Mayor. That’s right, Rahm, having to open his crusty wallet to pay for something. He’ll definitely be leaving Chicago.

Anyone but Rahm!

The Superintendent job became the Mayor's front man for political BS, lobbing new gun laws and pushing the DemocRATS agenda. Yes, he needs oversight and needs to be holding to more than just the Mayor! This guy didn't even want the job.

The "City Council" process. You mean the one where Rham tells them how to vote and then they vote the way he tells them to?

This was out of fear of daley. Now she a regular chatterbox. Another phony reformer who really has no fear of rahm. I believe rahm doesnt run again but people like lightweight may squeak in there in this environment. Then we san francisco

Hispanic voter turnout is pathetic due to age and citizenship issues.

Best bet to keep Rahm third would be something like a strong Black candidate and a strong white candidate with broad appeal.

I could see Lightfoot and Vallas besting Rahm in a three way race and then a runoff.

Rahm's best bet would be to run against a weak black or hispanic candidate in a runoff. Runoff is probably inevitable.

Rahm has the ca$h and my guess is the business community, is behind him. The worse of all the evils. Hold your nose when you vote.

Until the business community is wounded/hurt by muggings, shootings, and goings on in their areas, it's business as usual.

Sadly, also, how much goes on that never, never makes the light of day.

I'd never go Downtown or to any park, and I'm in a city way smaller than Chicago.
My guess is no officer, family, etc would go either. You're hopefully safer at home.

NOT ILLINOIS. NOT LAW.

Rahm is going to have a tough time no matter how many candidates file.

NotSoFairley is a sore loser even before the Primary places her 5th or 6th place for IL Atty G.
Gotta throw that race card out on the felt.
Tell me she isn’t a PrickWanker clinger.

First things first.
Pull a Democrat Ballot, there are No GOP candidates for any Chicago Elected office.
I sure hope Fioretti can gather the votes just to oust PrickWanker and put the entire Corrupt Cook County Anti-Police Trinity Tax Machine in a tizzy.
I think he would shitcan Evans on Day One.
KimmJong will stand to lose plenty of re-election endorsements ($$$) by 2020 too.

Word up to Freddie Boom-Boom Collins (012) -
Time is now to step up and get some real signature petitions before Seiser jumps in the race.

learn a new word?
Acumen noun
the ability to make good judgments and quick decisions, typically in a particular domain.

Asked the Retired POs and the widows of POs about that. We have the solution to the pension problem. The casino was approved . Where is it. Rahm has no interest because there is no money for him. Any body but Rahm We did very well under Harold Washington

That "fire in da belly" ex mayor mumbles spoke often about......not everyone yearns for the sensation of a red hot poker shoved way up in there and the resulting flow of volcanic diarhea splurting out at random intervals......to rule over competing factions of a city of relatively rational humans is one thing; to be riding atop the irrational beast our city has become........not so attractive........
