Now It Makes Sense

Trust our readers to put two and two together and come up with four.

We had noticed the push this week about getting or updating Hepatitis shots in the CO Book and on the AdMin fax network.

And we wrote about the Narcan coming to certain west and south side districts soon.

Someone put it together and commented that if you have to start giving Narcan spray to OD'ed junkies, you are inevitably coming into contact with a segment of the population that has a higher than average infection rate of....Hepatitis.

This might be part of Rahm's plan to save the pension - attrition by disease.

We're sensing a "lack of training" issue on the horizon. Two hours of Narcan training isn't possibly going to cover Universal Precautions protocols.

Universal Precaution #1) Remain Fetal if it's a junkie or someone who wanted to take that drug, Mother Nature will handle it.

#2) If it's a kid or accidental exposure by a non-junkie, glove up. Put on a mask. Administer the medication. Stand back and call an Ambulance.

Re: Hepatitis B Vaccine
Patients are given an "initial antibody level test"
prior to the 3-shot series.
In other words, people who fail to respond to the
initial antibody level test should be tested to exclude
current or past Hepatitis B infection.
TRANSLATION: this is not a shoot & leave procedure.
Make sure they do the initial antibody level test to
protect yourself from false accusations that you already
had the Hep B, or had it in the past. In other words, the
Department maintains you did not get the Hep B from the
Narcan recipient.

He told us the chances of getting AIDS was slim but the chances of getting Hepatitis was huge. Right after that the dept. started to give Hepatitis shots. Get those shots guys and the FOP should be pushing for everyone getting Hepatitis shots. ♠️

It might not be liberal or "politically correct" but the truth is that it's been proven that letting the junkie die saves millions of taxpayer money. The junkies have no job or value to society and receive welfare...that they use with stolen property or money to buy more smack. If we let nature take it's course, we have no more welfare payments to them, medical bills for their treatment, pizza parties at CCJ, public defender expense for them or prosecution expense for them. Let the junkie suffer the results of THEIR OWN VOLUNTARY choice and WE BENEFIT from less wasted tax money.

The unions should be filing a grievance immediately upon implementation and demanding additional pay for cross training. The fire side gets additional pay for each of their specialized skills received through training. Hazmat pay, driver pay, medic pay if not a paramedic etc. If we are cross training, it is in additional to out law enforcement t raining, and an addition workload outside the scope of our performance. (Lets ask a labor attorney, shall we?) It's time we get compensated cor developing this skill set. Remember, it's outside the scope and they will have to pay, or back off and not require it. They cant just say, you are ordered to do it.

Personally I think that everyone revived by Narcan should get a big tattoo on their chest.

First time, you get a D and a referral to a treatment program,
Second time, you get an N, and are held until you are checked in for treatment.
Third time, you get an R, treatment, and six months to dry out and stay dried out.
Fourth time, there is NO fourth time. The DNR on your chest is honored.

Three Strikes and you are OUT.

The media or the Department will never address the multiple doses of narcan in the same day to the same junkie. The paramedics will tell you how they get called in the morning administer narcan and the junkie waves his hospital trip. Only to be called back later in the day for the same junkie. Yea this is a good idea.

I don't know what all the fuss is all about. Just like every thing this department issues i.e.: radios, laptops, they will not have enough Narcan to go around. If we're lucky, every district will get what they need. But then, when the city doesn't pay it's bill, the distributer will stop all deliveries.

People posting about Hep-B need to read a little bit about viruses. I’ve known cops who’ve been bitten and contracted hep C. Remember working how many people fight you, how many people you cuff that are bloody? How many times have you heard “take universal precautions?” How many times have you heard offenders taunt you saying, “I got AIDS bitch and now you do too?” Now that I’m fetal, I don’t worry about that shit as much.

Now, hep-c lesson. Hep-c, unlike most viruses, doesn’t die quickly. It can remain on surfaces for up to 8 months! It is more tolerant to temperature changes and air than other viruses. Like HIV, it never leaves the body (no virus ever does) and right now there are is no vaccine. A “cure,” I think exists but antivirals cause extreme damage to internal organs. IV-needle users have extremely high exposure and, consequentially, tend to be carriers for Hep-C. Contracting Hep-C often goes undiagnosed. Over time it causes cirrhosis of the liver and will kill over time, decreasing your lifespan by secondary illnesses. Some even say it has been more devastating over the long run than HIV because it has infected more but takes way longer to kill than the progression from HIV contraction to full-blown AIDS/death so it gets less attention.

So no, fuck narcan. I won’t be using it. I don’t want that asshole to wake up spitting (mucous membranes, such as the eyes, nose and mouth are pathways to contracting viruses), biting or fighting me, exposing me to HEP-C or HIV. “Wear gloves?” Sneeze on my dick, that’s like saying, “she had HIV, just wear a condom, you’ll be good.”

There are more than 1000 Police Departments in 38 states currently carrying naloxone in their cars. You wouldn't be so quick to say "Let the junkie die" if it were your son or daughter. There are many current CPD families already suffering from the impact of the death of a loved one from Opioid abuse. If nothing else it would be great to be prepared if you or your partner are accidentally exposed.

My personal doctor gave me the three shots again without CPD's help. My doctor tested me after the shots and I did not have the antibody. My doctor said it sometimes does not work for all people. There's my out for not carrying Narcan.

For those of you who are smart and have annual check up. Advise your doctor what conditions we work in. Have your doc test you for all the contagious diseases. You want to take care of the problem as soon as possible.

Personally, I think using drugs are a personal choice for ADULTS. I heard it take 5 times in rehab to kick heroin. I have talk to heroin addicts that have used for 30 years and are in their 60's. Kids are a different story and deserve our help.
