Shot Fired

  • One person was injured in an exchange of gunfire involving Chicago Police Monday afternoon in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers were responding to a home invasion around 3 p.m. at 90th and Ellis. There were reports of shots fired, but police say they did not strike the offender.

A sergeant on the scene said officers were chasing multiple offenders. Multiple are now in custody.

One of the suspects suffered a dislocated knee but was not shot, as was initially thought, by police.
Watch yourselves. An e-mailer thought that there was another set of shots fired at the police this weekend in 015, but we can't find any reports of it.

Laramie and Adams shots fired at the police on Friday the 12jan18 At aprox 1830 hours. Shit head takes off in the alley, the officers lose sight of shit bag thanks to some good tactics on the young officers part. When he lost sight of the offender behind the garage he slowed down before slicing the pie where a waiting offender fired one shot towards the officers. Thankfully due to good tactics and the offenders weapon malfunctioning(stove pipe) no officer was injured. They found shit bag a yard over underneath a car and the weapon only feet away. Our lovely ASA’s would only approve UUW and defacing a serial number from weapon and no foid, because officers didn’t “see” down the barrel of the awaiting gun and the shit bag behind it actually fire at them. The also lovely offender was seen in 015 days later picking up his property.

No shots fired at the police in 015. Dude slipped on ice while fleeing with pistol in hand. Squeezed one off as he hit the ground. Coppers panicked and called in that they were being fired upon. Turns out they overreacted in the moment.

Yes there was one in 015 at about 1730 on Friday at Laramie and Monroe/Adams area. I believe the offender fired 1 round at the officers, but the officers did not return fire. There was a small mention of it in the Scum Times.

Good job Officers but I doubt COPA feels the same way. It is a real shame that good police work will be turned inside out trying to find something to hang the evil coppers with. Probably a good thing you missed the bad guys but now you have the dislocated knee to explain. Poor POS injured and his carrier in the NBA at risk, O'well I here there is a shortage of brain surgeons.

Armstead was arrested Friday around 5:45 p.m. after officers were called to the 5200 block of West Adams Street in the South Austin neighborhood for a report of a person with a gun matching his description, police said.

The officers tried to stop Armstead, who then pulled out a gun and fired shots at them, according to police.

****

I’ll take the highly detailed account from someone that seems like they were there, or at least works in 015, over your bullshit, “panicked” and “overreacted.” Even if that were the case, that it as an ND, I would never trash officers that close to an offender they were chasing for calling out shots fired at police if a weapon goes off that close to them in a chase. Let me guess, when tactical fart was proactive he would’ve said, “slow it down on our man with a gun over here, he just cracked a round off but give everyone a slowdown, he must’ve fell on some ice. I’m as cool as ice, by the way.”

So, QB, if weapon is stovepiped does that mean shithead certainly only pulled trigger once or didn’t know how to remediate a malfunction? Tell me, what does your crystal ball say?

Too bad these thieves didn't receive life long, crippling injuries, or worse. Hopefully homeowners will have time to acquire a firearm before they get out of jail and victimize another resident, or are they already out?

Off topic buy germane to these posts; I watched the first two episodes of " CHI' a made for TV program based on black experiences on the south side of Chicago. It was written by a black women who previously lived here. From my perspective , having spent 34 years on the job much of it on the south and west sides working in black areas, this women nailed it. This program puts out there all of the things wrong with the black culture in Chicago, all of the things that make it almost impossible to get any sense of civic duty, and peace and tranquility in black Chicago. A small amount of police bashing ( lazy homicide detective who does not have empathy), but focuses mostly on the street life, language, poor respect for education, work or family. Watch it. One of the directors did " The Wire" about Baltimore which also was very good.

From recruit standing on a corner for first 6 months right out of academy to working diff cars with vets that have no interest in teaching the newbies they don't trust to tact team chasing dude. Prob unaware of exact location when "they took fire". Hahahahaha. Glad no one got hurt but let's place blame where it need to be placed.

Looks like since the truth has gotten out, the panties of a few of the 015 District Snowflakes have become wedged all up in that labia majora. Newsflash: it's ok to admit you were scared when the gun accidentally discharged and reacted by calling it in as a shots fired at the police. And don't take it personal that dude wasn't charged with something he didn't do - that's the type of shit that gets officers jammed up deeper than the aforementioned panties. I don't particularly care for Farty Pants Man, but he is correct. Sorry your pride was hurt fellas, but facts are facts.

Fishing, trolling, baiting, whatever you wanna call it. More than likely they have a team posting ridiculous comments.

COPA come out and play, we know you're in here. I say nix them like tweeter or face space does.

Thanks. You’re tact....the idiots still putting numbers on the board and you’re lecturing other cops about new guys? I’m getting all shy like a little school boy, please tell me more tact hero stories. Remember, clown, you were new at one point and you laugh at fellow cops not knowing their exact position? It sucks and it happens. Watch Del’s account of his directions after he was shot and then look in the mirror and ask why you think that’s so funny.

Something tells me it’s the same loser who keeps busting on the guys calling in “shots fired at the police.” You’ve probably never been in a situation where it’s happened. Maybe they should have taken some time to realize if the shots were headed their way or better yet ask the offender if he was shooting at them? You’re not fooling anyone. It’s pretty obvious that you’re jealous, bitter and a complete weirdo. Glad the officers are okay.

I gotta ask this cuz I’m not getting it. So an officer in 015 is chasing man with a gun, the offender turns the corner, at which point the officer loses sight of him. The officer, right before he enters the alley hears a shot being fired in his direction. The officers calls out, “shots fired at the police” and people are giving him shit for that? I’m ok with that...even if turns out the offender accidentally fired the shot....wouldn’t you want to play it safe and warn other officers that a shot was possibly fired at the police? As far as charging the offender for shooting at the police...more concrete evidence maybe needed, but calling it out over the air seems like the right thing to do. I’ll put our safety over the assholes safety any day of the week...and twice on Sunday...but maybe that’s just me.

Response to 119am: Officer #1 has 3 years otj. Officer #2 has 1 year otj. Perhaps if they had more experience they would know what shots fired at the police is versus shot(s) NOT fired at the police. How do you guys so little time get to make it to tac? I thought there were rules governing going to tact after Ceriale was killed??? My response to the scene to assist is based on what they call out. I don't want to risk my safety responding to some asshole running from the police with a gun that discharges when he slips on the ice. Inexperience gets people hurt (or worse) whether it's on the street or in management. "Play it safe" you say? Sounds great. Consider the safety of your fellow officers when you chase dude for nonsense. Learn the difference btwn loud reports and shots fired at police. Learn that every dude holding his pants up becuz he doesn't have a belt is NOT a man with a gun. Learn that chasing for bullshit dope is NOT an "emergency squad!!"

If I wasn’t fetal I would request you as my FTO even though I probably have more TOJ. My dumbass still rushes to assist if someone chases a man with a gun or on-view shots fired or shots fired at police. I’m a hair gel because I fear the officers can get shot. I think I will start clarifying over the air, “hey squad, can I mobile with the officers in the FP? Yeah, are you sure what you heard was gunfire or could it have been a loud report? Are you sure the gun was pointed at you? Did you hear the round crack or his close to your head?” If they answer no to any of those, I will take a slow roll over there. Thanks ma’am, good to learn how to be the police by seasoned vets.

Thanks for the response. However not knowing all the details that at the time... I would say go ahead and call that out. Did you want him to stick his head out there around a blind corner to see if the offender would shoot at him again so he could confirm it? If he reasonably believed shot were fired at him...whether he’s got a year on the job or not...I’m ok with him calling that out. Wouldn’t you agreed based off my scenario (which appears to be what actually happened... based off these comments) that he reasonable believed, at that time, that the offender shot at him? Just as he was about to turn the corner the offenders gun discharges...I think that’s reasonable. I get it...he’s got a year on the job and he’s on tact....youre pissed about it lol. I agree with you on that.....But really, if some young Officer is reading this and you Reasonably and honestly believe you were shot at...go ahead and say that over the air...cuz I wanna know that. Again, I care more about our safety than theirs. PS to the officer that responded to me. Im heading there at the same fast but safe speed...whether the officer calls out a foot pursuit for “ man with a gun” or “shots fired at the police.” Cuz unfortunately, I do have enough time on this job to know...the first can turn into the second at anytime. Btw I don’t know how they do it in 015, but anytime an officer is in a foot pursuit...that takes precedent over your 19p domestic or your lunch request....so yeah a foot pursuit is an emergency. Whether he’s chasing him for bullshit or not....You don’t know what the asshole will do or how far he’ll go to get away from the officer...help the kid out. Btw the only foot chase I’ve ever been yelled at about by other coppers was the domestic related variety and I carry on that tradition by yelling at every single copper who does it lol.....but that’s after we help them out. SCC I know the post is old but I hope ya post this...hate for his to be the last word.
