Looking in the Wrong Direction

  • Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson on Thursday touted the department’s efforts in the Englewood patrol district, saying homicides and shootings have plunged this year in what has historically been among the city’s deadliest neighborhoods.

Speaking at a City Club of Chicago luncheon, Johnson said both homicides and shootings have dropped by more than 40 percent over the year-earlier period in which violence hit levels unseen in two decades.

"Today, and I never thought I'd say this after being a cop for nearly 30 years, Englewood is leading the city in violence reductions this year," Johnson told a couple of hundred business and civic leaders.
And who gets the credit?
  • Johnson credited the department’s use of “nerve centers” in Englewood and five other police districts for helping reduce violence.

The nerve centers combine crime analysts with predictive crime software and use gun detection technology known as "ShotSpotter," as well as high-definition surveillance cameras.

“These state-of-the-art tools allow officers and civilian analysts to work smarter and faster, monitor gang conflicts in real time and make changes to our strategy as the situation dictates,” he said.
And nothing to do with the 400-plus coppers tripping over each other in the few square miles that make up Englewood? Good to know we're all so appreciated. Meanwhile, 016, 017, 022 and a few other districts make do with about 170 cops each covering far greater mileage.

007 has so many new vehicles that there aren't enough parking spaces to hold all of them. This just shows if you fully staff somewhere which 007 is over staffed and provide equipment that works and enough of it crime will go down. No merit twin you didn't reinvent police work nor are you responsible for the drop.

The nerve centers combine crime analysts with predictive crime software and use gun detection technology known as "ShotSpotter," as well as high-definition surveillance cameras. Everything that he mentioned useless. ShotSpotter- system that is put by having sensors all over the district, if three sensors don’t pick up shots being fired, then the California based company does not send it out as shots being fired. So you have someone, somewhere in California monitoring these sensors, they listen they determine if they are going to end it out or not. Nerve centers what he is calling it useless more than half of the time the cameras aren’t working, when you have a system that sometimes does capture vehicles, offenders passing by but when you zoom in the image becomes distorted- useless. Predictive crime software is data of crime that is inputted from the last five years (hunch lab) - useless. There have many incidents where ShotSpotter supposedly was operational but failed to sense shots being fired and people out there are using high powered rifles. City hires politicalu connected Retired police man and they call them crime analysts what a joke. Bottom line the city of Chicago is greasing someone pockets with all these technology that half of the time it’s not working.

You hit the nail right on the head SCC.
Englewood is merely the size of a postage stamp yet it’s saturated with CPD resources.
Besides the 400 plus officers assigned there the Wood also benefits from VRI further saturating it on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, as you say SCC, other (non community) “quieter” areas of the city absolutely starve for adequate CPD resources.

Fuck you Rahm and Ed.

Theres times he says shit so stupid you have to wonder how he even got thru that joke of a academy. He's actually bragging about a few hundred less shooting victims. Well lets look at what that can actually mean.

1, The shitheads are to busy stealing cars at gunpoint to shoot each other.
2, So many decent folks are leaving the south and west sides there are plain less targets out there to shoot.
3, Poor marksmanship. The gangbangers are only practicing with 30 rounds a year with their targets only 7 yrds and 15 yrds away. Hey if it fucks us up it follows it should fuck them up.
4, Weather. It has been proven that a year where climate change doesn't go the Liberals way by an average of 1% Celsius there are fewer people shot in Chicago.
5, Drug business is better. When Biz is better theres less reason to shoot the competition. Kind of like corporate America but with bullets.

And then he gets all technological and shit. Like its the movie Dredd and he has those drones flying around. When have you ever heard of that shot spotter shit ever doing anything, and yes we have had it for many years. We already have "shot spotters" its called "our ears" and its worked since the Dawn of Man.

But using your ears doesn't get anyone in the tribe a fat juicy contract and it sounds far more impressive talking about some NSA type nerve center where our best and brightest are using the latest tech to monitor the pulse of the city and strategize and shit, ready to deploy assets like in a Jason Beorne movie. It sounds far better then a room of clout heavy coppers playing video games and saying "Huh" a lot.

So yes you can drench a very small district of non tax payers with hundreds of cops and slow down the shooting a bit. Ask the people of Wrigleyville, uptown , and Rogers Park how thats working out for them. Or 016 where we pay taxes until were bleeding. Go look at those skinny sheets posted in that station, a District that is huge.

Very simple. They are not in Englewood committing violent crimes because they now travel to 001, 018, and other areas where the pickings are much more appealing. So if you take the increase of violent crime in the districts that historically did not have that problem and analyze the crimes , you will see that the offenders , and most of the victims, are from the shithole know as Englewood or neighborhoods like it.

Because with the dramatic and very public increase of brazen crimes downtown and surrounding areas "shops on the Mag mile (daylight hammer smash & grabs) carjackings, group strong armed robberies and shootings", etc.. maybe one should look why this crime has continued (mental health facilities closed and funding decreased, no deterrence / punishment when crimes are planned/committed, why doesn't the city work or $ do a study why/what is going on withsay Englewood that its socially acceptable to commit crimes and not call out bad behavior or call the cops (and dont give me some white privilege BS lets look at why CPS kids cant read or write at their "alleged" grade level for starters) because thats some messed up priorities

Per Wikipedia the combined population of Englewood and West Englewood was 156K for the 1960 Census and was 67K for the 2010 Census. That is a 50% population loss. Sure crime will go down, the bad people are running out of others to prey on. With so many police saturating Englewood no wonder that crime is heading to other neighborhoods.

A court system with laws that are not tough on crime, state and district prosecutors looking for social justice you have a perfect storm brewing. I don't see the situation getting better. I live in a city with a population 1/2 of West Englewood and Englewood and we have yet to have a shooting this year, but have had one fatal knifing. The courts and laws here are tougher on crime.

Tommy dart Kimmy fox The mayor the 50 all the judges are responsible law and order and the city in this crooked county in the state along with the dishonest media is destroyed. When you bastardize Chicago police officers who go out on a daily basis to do the dirty job of putting away the criminals but then the police officers are destroyed in the media by the liberals and the police are beaten thrown to the curb throwing under the bus obviously the people that keep electing Democrats are happy with everything.
