Great Use of Manpower
- Chicago police said they responded to a large fight outside a high school that involved as many as 100 students and parents Wednesday afternoon.
Police responded to Dunbar Vocational Career Academy in the 3000-block of South King Drive at about 3:30 p.m. Officers responded to reports of a large fight as classes let out, involving possibly dozens of people.
The Chicago Fire Department said one officer suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment. A girl was also injured when she was kicked in the face.
Witnesses tried to break up the fight, which was predominantly among 20 to 30 girls, but things spiraled out of control.
The trouble here is this wasn't the first fight of the week at Dunbar.
It wasn't even the second.
On Wednesday, it was the third fight in as many days, necessitating a call out of officers from THREE separate districts and resulting in exactly ZERO arrests.
So why bother sending the police at all?

The police, who are looked upon in every possible negative and derogatory manner, are the contingency plan for every problem in the municipalities they serve! The schools can't handle the students, call the police. No one wants to take the liability so they call the police. First off schools and their administration are supposed to be, in place of the parent, so it is their job! Second, if the police were called for major fights 3 times in a week, what did the school do to address the problem after the 1st, the 2nd, and why did the situation continue to escalate. Somebody should be losing a job under these circumstances! I'll bet dollars to donuts that nothing was done by the school as punishment or penalty for those responsible. Also WTF can the police do? The CCSA won't charge adults for crimes and the juvenile system a balanced and restorative JOKE and that's a big reason why the murder rate is what it is!

The only way this situation could have ended without a struggle is if I just decided to let the suspect leave the scene without any enforcement action. In fact, choosing not to enforce the laws would de-escalate many situations. However, officers take an oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of their jurisdictions so walking away is not an ethical de-escalation strategy. De-escalation can only take place when there is time and opportunity to reduce the intensity of a conflict

My partner was in a police shooting years ago. The shitizen was charged with TWENTY felonies and admitted to the ASA Everything that transpired. He never had one court date. Took a plea for ONE class 4, sentenced to 3 years.
He served a year, then 6 months on home confinement. A month after home confinement, He was locked up for UWW and agg discharge.

Early 2000s Austin high school's dismissal was a sergeant, a wagon and at least three or four cars every single day. And if there was any sign of trouble a lot more than that. Just our energetic youth at the end of a day of learning. And even with all that, occasionally there would be a shooting right by the school.

Saw more than my share of this kind of shit.
What you do, is after the 2nd fight shows there's a potential for shit to become ongoing,
suspend all involve students. They get warned " You or your SHIT-BAG ass PARENTS,come anywhere near the school grounds, you get arrested...Suspension extended, and total expulsion from the school procedures begin".
We'd then have a couple 3rd watch cars, a wagon, and a tac unit or 2, surround the school at dismissal. (Approx 1430 til 1500) This would go on for a couple of days.
Almost without fail, the shit was quelled.
And trust me, when I say I was at a "shit-hole" west side high school, I'm talking shit-holiest.
It worked because we had a good 3rd watch, WC who actually got involved.
Yeah...I know that's wishful thinking these days.

There is no punishment to the juvy when they are arrested. It does not exist.
Even if this went to court and the juvy lost, there is still no punishment. The arrest is just a couple of hours of inconvenience for the juvy. In fact, it’s not even enough points to get them sent to the Audy.
The only ones punished are the officers that have to deal with these assholes until they are turned over to a guardian.

Been in roits during the 60's-70's and there were times we had to retreat to a safe location and reorganize. After reorganizing (more personnel) we reengaged and kicked ass and made arrests. I just wonder if the new police are even trained for crowd control?
