About Those Gun Thefts...

Might be open season on the rail yards if this is correct:
  • FYI...Union Pacific Railroad is laying off all eight police officers from Ogilvie station, so no more cops there. They’re also laying off three more street officers that are supposed to be patrolling the yards and two more quit amid the layoffs. That leaves only about eight police officers responsible for rail yards in most of Illinois, Wisconsin and part of Iowa. Many more gun thefts from Chicago rail yards to come!
Are the aldercreatures listening?

Maybe they should switch to air freight?

I'd be less worried about gun thefts and more worried about terrorism. CSX and UP both slashed their police departments in Chicago. Metra, BNSF, NS, and CP have been hiring more cops and working to increase patrols and intelligence units. With blowing up train stations and derailing oil and passenger trains being the flavor of the day for domestic and foreign terrorists, these cuts will come back to haunt railroad leadership. Not only are they not going to repair that crumbling bridge façade, but they are jeopardizing innocent lives by cutting their security forces. But hey, its more important to satisfy private investors by increasing that bottom line no matter the cost.

Most of the rail cops are prior municipal cops and military, and they try hard to secure the yards, stations, and trains with the limited resources given by management. Its the political hires who keep screwing up yet getting multiple promotions that lead to embarrassing headlines.

The ceo should be held criminally negligent for each firearm that goes missing from the yards. At the least, a massive fine per gun should be levied on them. Something so large that the idea of losing 10 guns should scare the hell out of them and even make it more feasible to have armed escorts for these cars. They certainly have no fear of the guns getting into the hands of criminals with the result being dead civilians and cops. They know there is a problem and laying off the few cops they have is a ridiculous reaction.

The democrats seem to want any gun law they can get. So how about increasing the security of the cars with weapons and increasing fines to where it actually would hurt the transit companies for losing them? There are criminal charges if an individual fails to secure his/her gun and it is taken, why not when 50 or 100 guns are taken?

I would think that both republicans and democrats could agree that nobody has a right to steal guns and a company that is transporting them does have an obligation to ensure they are secured. Oh, wait, any new law, requirement, or policy that comes out of this wouldn't be against an individual law abiding gun owner but against a major corporation that probably makes major campaign contributions. Soooooooo lets just ignore the direct correlation that all of these thefts clearly mean the rail yards are failing to properly secure firearms in transit.

They will want us to somehow patrol the rail yards. These are very dangerous places for the untrained and inexperienced.

Probably more liability in having employees running around with guns than having trains getting burglarized. Burglary is an insurance matter.

Even experienced cinder dicks have been struck and killed by moving trains in rail yards. Very hazardous duty.

You don't really appreciate that fact until you witness
a 2 mile long freight rolling by just slow enough for you
to read the gross weight amounts stenciled on the sides
of the rail cars... 500+ ton (1+ Million pound) locomotives,
250,000 pound tanker cars and so on...

Now imagine all that potential kinetic energy
just truckin' along at a good clip?

And this era ISN'T the heyday of railroading.
Look at the archival footage of the Union Pacific
"Big Boy" steam locomotives of WW2.

Million and a half pound monsters hauling
2+ mile strings at 80 mph.

Coal, iron, troops, war supplies and so on.

Irony?

America used to work.
America used to build.

America needs to do that again
and not pay the callow poot-butt
nation-hating traitor/seditionist
Progressives, white-guilters and
racialist grievance mongers no mind
at all.

Why do you think it's so horrific when these things
sometimes leave the rails

"Once upon a time" the Cinder Dicks were serious about their jobs. I have a well used 1956 Colt Detective Special with the Union Pacific logo stamped on it. They patrolled the rail yards in the days before radios and in WWII were watching for Nazi saboteurs at the same time. Today they aren't even allowed to detain punk kids breaking into cars. But when the guns they steal go into circulation, somehow it's the NRA's fault?

Stock market at all-time highs, companies
making money hand over fist, yet you have
these layoffs or reductions in force.
This article is either "bait" or a playbook
for the gangs.

The Union Pacific Railroad has been doing a lot of layoffs and early retirements of late. Since they do most of the long haul freight from the ports on the Left Coast to here, perhaps the economy is not doing so well, after all.

Will the Crook County States Attorney be any harder on railroad CEOs than she is on the Community? While CEOs have deep pockets, they also have extensive legal departments with which to fight back. Still, holding them accountable for weapons theft on their watch is a good idea.

It's true that Union Pacific laid off their force. The protection and patrol of OTC goes to Metra police. We never called them first anyway. It was always the CPD first if you want a more realistic response. Everyone wants more X with less Y. Need to satisfy us stock holders.

Here it is...I'm opposed to shipping guns by rail...also opposed to shipping money by rail. Among the most dumb a$$ things done to save cash, these are ignorant in the extreme. Grew up 100 ft from the UP tracks and I know what stupid kids did in the 60's...I'm certain it hasn't gotten better since.

I went to Target in Hodgkins today and bought a bottle of drain cleaner. I got carded by the pilgrim cashier who said they wanted to stop terrorists by not selling them drain cleaner. Wow that will work just like booze, spray paint, fireworks, guns, ammo and 90% of the other useless laws in existence.
We only need the 10 Commandments of the mob. LOL

Here's an idea, use planes, UPS, FEDX to deliver the guns and stop using trains that run through Chicago. There, problem solved, no the Union P can fire all their police.

They never did much anyway... CPD handled all the arrests or the suburban police. Glorified security ...maybe they can find jobs with smaller departments in Illinois..
