No....Just No

A number of people pointed out that you are able to access the E-learning modules from remote locations - the library for one. Your home computer for another.

We confess to being unaware as we don't work in 024 and aren't subject to silly orders to complete Department mandated training on our own time.

But seeing as how defense and plaintiff attorneys have been making concerted efforts to get hold of Officers' personal phones, why in Hell would you even give anyone the chance to access your home computer? You'd have to be extra soft in the head to even crack open that door.

SCC, I'm retired and work for a collar county Sheriffs office. I was going to install their email system on my phone so I could get my emails from them while away from the office. The IT guys there however advised me not to do that. Not because it would allow some lawyer access to my phone but because it would allow the COUNTY access to my phone and everything I use it for.

What a load of crap. Due to the overlap between 3rd and 1st watch, many cars were used to coming in early to give up the car. They were leaving several hours early. So instead of getting a daily duck, they were told to do their elearning then, not during the time they have a car and are supposed to be on the streets. Typical goofs bringing attention to the watch and losing a perk in the process.

If you have been reading about the Justine Damand case in Minneapolis Minnesota, Officers Noor and Herrity had to give up their cell phones. Their city issued cell phones. Not their personal cell phones.

Keep your personal and your professional electronic devices separate.

Use a dumb phone on duty. Leave the iPhone at home. Never use the good phone for police or city business.

Probably the easiest server in the City to hack is the antiquated CPD hardware which City Hall shares with all City agencies except the AlderThieves.
But Judicial Watch has to use FOIA to get to Rahm's emails that are operating independently, most likely in his basement closet.

Anything work related is done at work and that goes for training. Studying for an exam is a different ballgame. Make the sgt or other white shirt give you a direct order to conduct e-learning on your own time. File grievances. Imagine 200 grievances coming from one district, then multiple that through the department. Downtown will be heating up the DC's ear asking what the fuck is going on. And each one of those ordered statements of doing e-learning on your own time is winnable.

SPAR me for not doing e-learning on my own time? Under what GO or RR does that fall under? Violation of a direct order? I think not. Insubordination? I think not.
White shirts think that because they wear the shirt that they are smarter than those who wear blue. Far from the truth.

If you feel the need to do so, go to the public library and use their computers, don't use your phone or anyother device traceable back to you.

(OT) Psst Tommy Tommy dart, toni over here look here you 2 goofs:

Trump Administration Moves to Expand Deportation Dragnet to Jails

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/21/us/sheriffs-immigration-jails.html

Excerpt:A handful of sanctuary cities refuse to honor detainers on ideological grounds, but a larger number of sheriffs who otherwise support the Trump administration have also turned down detainers because courts have found that they violate the Fourth Amendment.

The legal move, in which sheriffs would essentially serve as contractors for ICE, is intended to protect sheriffs from such court battles, which have sometimes resulted in costly payouts. Some legal advocates for immigrants, though, expressed doubt that courts would view it as being different from current practices.

There you go acting as contractors, you rid the areas of criminal illegals, we get less blood on the streets and no lawsuits! Then maybe acting as contractors we would not have to suffer the loss of multi-millions in federal monies effective 01SEP17, that money tommy toni and rahm as you all know is for "police services" like new vests, vehicles, etc. Hard to believe that you stand up bravely for criminals cost taxpayers millions and yet your not in jail charged and processed! Some coppers were wondering why traffic tickets are not being written or thrown out, at the tip when the elected violate and disregard federal laws there is no law only a struggle to survive!

If you are required to do the training as a condition of employment then it should be on city time and city equipment.

If it is only for your own edification, personal development, or career enhancement, that is a different matter.

Incidentally it is not usually that hard in civil cases not involving police for opposing counsel to be able to subpoena personal cell phone records. I don't know why it would be any harder if a cop is involved. There is nothing special about suing a cop versus suing your plumber as far as the courts are concerned.

Never ever use your own personal equipment or access for WORK. Doesn't matter what you do - but especially nowadays as a cop. Cities, attorneys, etc. all out to F' you over - don't give them more ammo.

If someone asks if you use a personal device for work: The answer is ALWAYS NO. And just make that so, that way you don't have to worry about perjury charges having a chance in hell of sticking.

If they want you to be accessible, or to do something remotely: They can pony up for the equipment and access... Otherwise, fuck it.

It's not just cellphone records they want. They're taking the actual device and extracting the data, photos, texts messages, etc.

Well that will stop shortly. I'm sure the FOP has been notified and will straighten this out.
