CFD Shooting

  • An off-duty Chicago Fire Department lieutenant fatally shot a teenage boy who tried to steal his car Monday morning in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

About 9:30 a.m., the 45-year-old lieutenant left his vehicle running in the 1400 block of North Lockwood, when a 17-year-old boy got inside and tried to drive off, according to Chicago Police and Fire department officials.

The lieutenant fired his weapon at the teen, who was trying to run him over with the vehicle, authorities said.

Concealed Carry prevents another crime? In Chicago?

So does he get 30 days off the street now?

We kid! We kid! Nice shooting there Lieutenant.

Should be good shoot since his UofF as a CCL holder goes through the state and not CPD's. Imagine if a copper did this nowadays...

I'm not saying anything about the shooting, but why did the victim leave his car running unattended? Then the little shithead wouldn't had nothing to steal.

Never let it be said the police stand in the way of allowing someone to exercise they're constitutional right to self defense. Outstanding job. Outstanding.

Hey Jordan Owen of the Scum-Times, you are a real jerk. The offender was not a 17 year-old boy! He was a psychopathic felon who happened to be 17 years-old. There is a huge difference.

But I thought that vehicles weren't deadly weapons and so it'd just bounce off the Lt. if it hit him...

Why would you leave your car running, especially in the ghetto. Good thing he's not a cop, otherwise he would be screwed. People trying to run down cops with a car isn't deadly force in Chicago.

This will get quietly swept under the rug due to the area of where the shooting occurred and the race of the Lt and car thief. If it was a white Lt in Eddison Park capping a black student driver the sky would fall and reverunds would be demanding that the Federal Gubment take over the Fire Department.

It's mind blowing reading social media comments on this shooting. "He did leave his vehicle running illegally!" "He could've just given up the vehicle and didn't have to shoot him!" "Now someone is dead over a vehicle!" This liberal, hug-a-thug, hippy bullshit has gotten out of control. Stolen vehicle's and vehicle hijackings have been ridiculous over the past two years. Yet all these fuckers want to do is be sympathetic to these POS's who steal everything that isn't bolted down and shoot at everything that moves. What about the 85yr old recently who was hijacked? She gave up the keys peacefully and they STILL pistol whipped her and kicked her while she was down. An 85yr old woman for fuck sake. This is why crime is the way it is. Sympathy for the criminals and fuck over the victims and cops constantly.

For as often as the firefighters will brag about how intelligent they were to get "in the right line" (as opposed to the line to be a cop), I at least have the sense to not leave my running car unattended, whether in the hood or in Naperville.

Good shoot/bad shoot won't matter in terms of the civil lawsuit he will face. Remember, they don't need a win, just a settlement. Good luck with your many years ahead in court, real hero. You will probably lose your house just trying to pay for a lawyer.

A little common sense goes a long way, my friends.

remember, only a cop in Illinois needs the 'imminent danger' part. A civilian can use deadly force simply to PREVENT a forcible felony (BTW veh. theft is NOT a forcible felony, but robbery is).

(720 ILCS 5/7-3) (from Ch. 38, par. 7-3)
Sec. 7-3. Use of force in defense of other property.
(a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that he reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to prevent or terminate such other's trespass on or other tortious or criminal interference with either real property (other than a dwelling) or personal property, lawfully in his possession or in the possession of another who is a member of his immediate family or household or of a person whose property he has a legal duty to protect. However, he is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if he reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.
(b) In no case shall any act involving the use of force justified under this Section give rise to any claim or liability brought by or on behalf of any person acting within the definition of "aggressor" set forth in Section 7-4 of this Article, or the estate, spouse, or other family member of such a person, against the person or estate of the person using such justified force, unless the use of force involves willful or wanton misconduct.
(Source: P.A. 93-832, eff. 7-28-04.)

(720 ILCS 5/2-8) (from Ch. 38, par. 2-8)
Sec. 2-8. "Forcible felony". "Forcible felony" means treason, first degree murder, second degree murder, predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, robbery, burglary, residential burglary, aggravated arson, arson, aggravated kidnaping, kidnaping, aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm or permanent disability or disfigurement and any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual.

The fire department embraces and bargained a "me too" clause or parity with the police department.

Bend over lietenant here comes COPA, Moprah, IPRA, The InJustice Department, Black. Lives Matter, made up denominational street level Reverends, suits from the fbi, Loevy & Loevy and the arch nemesis Eddie the Stripper. Next the media will advance themes like his hands were up, he was shot in the back, the 17 year old entrepreneur was turning his life around to support his four children and assorted baby mamas, he was working on his GED and other diversions from personal responsibility and consequences of his choice to perpetuate criminal behavior.

"Me too" clause. Welcome to the world of CPD. And all the redundant statements where written or oral which must be exact since a minor mistake can give all of your enemies ammunition to advance themes of conspiracies, coverups, corruption, collusion, civil right violations, policy violations, etc.

The microscopic review by some many authorities conducting parallel investigations with so many variations of what occurred will threaten your existence with threats of imprisonment, termination and bigger payouts rewarding criminal actions in the form of cash for family members who didn't bother to raise their career criminal right and as an added qbonus, making the representative lawyers accomplices six figures richer. Any reasonable lawyer will tell you crime does not pay. The chances criminals take are not worth the monetary or legal consequences.

Honestly glad the fireman is okay but first you left your car running unattended second you must have ran in front of him while he was trying to make good his escape with your property third good luck in civil court. Think you'll find a stolen recovered vehicle covered by insurance no doubt would have been the easier choice here. But hey what do I know.

Why does the headline have to include "CFD member and 17 year old"? Why cant it be " Legally armed citizen defends his life and property against carjacker would be murderer who attempted to run him down" What difference does it make what his profession is? Are his rights any less than a doctor, lawyer, Indian Chief just because he is a city employee? A 17 year old is not a "boy", cant wait for the pictures of him at 12 to start showing up in the media proclaiming his innocence of youth.

When the city jams him up or the perpetually aggrieved catered to constituency files the lawsuits, we will see the biggest suspension party in history. When the city tries to shut that down he will find donations in his mailbox or independent go fund me set up.

For those that say its just a car, should have let him go, where is your line drawn? OK, take my phone, wallet, car,,,,how about house? If its OK to violently take these other things, why not come through your front door and take what they want? At some point violent criminality needs to met with violent self defense by the ordinary citizenry. And, ponder this, what if he took the car with no consequences, hours later same car is used in a typical drive by where the intended target just gets a knick and some random kid gets lit up for being in the wrong place wrong time, is it OK to just let him have the car then?

To hell with this POS, he learned the hard way of thug life. To the Lt, hope you can get his stains and funk out of YOUR car, and if you get jammed up I will be spending money at your party like a sailor on leave
