Squeezing Toothpaste

Guess what happens when you bring resources to bear on a crime problem? The criminals just give up their illicit activities, surrender their guns and go home to a future filled with gainful employment?

Oh wait, that's liberal fantasy land.
  • Beat 1011 — an area of just .45 of a square mile — takes the crown of most dangerous police beat in Chicago from neighboring, slightly larger Beat 1133, just on the other side of dividing line Roosevelt Road. Beat 1133, in the department’s Harrison District, held the unwanted title for 2016.

So the police took steps to address that. They put in place or expanded technology-based initiatives to fight the violence north of Roosevelt Road — including ShotSpotter gunshot sensors and what they call Strategic Decision Support Centers. These allow analysts from the police department and the University of Chicago Crime Lab to review gunfire data and better target where officers need to be deployed.

And when they did all of that, the shooting shifted to the other side of Roosevelt Road, the Sun-Times analysis found. The number of shootings has dropped dramatically in Beat 1133, records show. At the same time, the toll of shootings has surged in Beat 1011 next door.
No shit. You know what happened when the Department put up "blue light cameras"? The dope dealing moved around the corner, out of the camera's line of sight. And if the camera got moved, the dealing moved again. The Department is far more reactive than proactive. That comes from being shorthanded - which isn't going to be corrected short-term.

And then there's this little tidbit:
  • From January through June last year, 329 people were killed.

The city is slightly ahead of that pace this year. In the first six months of 2017, 333 people were killed citywide.
It's still going to be difficult to maintain this pace for almost two years straight. Last year, August averaged over three murders a day (98 dead). That's asking a lot of our criminals, but you never know. 700 is well within reach again, and Beat 1011 is just going to have to grin and bear it.

Hahahahahahahahah ! I have to laugh every time I read about this policing "technology" . Its just so hard to imagine how anyone can be so stupid as tomthink this blue light cameras, shot soptter bullshit will do anything but waste money. Why do they think their honored constituents are so stupid that they will not just move out of range of this phony feel good crap. Put cops on the street. Lots of them. In all the neighborhoods and keep them ALL safe. Enough is enough. A real man will at some point admit he was wrong and do the right thing.i guess the city leaders just dont have any balls whatsoever.

What does the CPD do yo inform the citizens stuck in these hell holes?

Fixed "Blue Light Cameras" are obsolete. Why spend millions on fixed cameras when you can buy Drones with cameras (and so many other features) that can be totally mobile?

Chicago could step up its game to fight crime in some of the worst neighborhoods by flying drones around looking for "problems". Hard to "scurry to the next rat hole" when the cameras can scurry right along with you.

Plus, if someone shoots one down, you have them on Federal charges of "shooting down an aircraft". Let's get into the right century.

Also, can't wait to see the Police Chief who resigned in Minneapolis come to Chicago as the next Superintendent.

You don't think it could ever happen?? Hmmm.. you don't know Chicago. Stranger things have happened.

Squeezing toothpaste, that's a nice way of saying stepping in a pile of shit.
All the technology in the world is not going to make a bit of difference if there isn't a cop there to make an arrest, a jail to hold the suspect, a court to try said suspect and a prison to hold the convicted criminal.
Cops could be everywhere, but if you tie their hands so all they can do is scratch their asses, nothing will get better. But apparently, this is the way democrats like it. Too bad the "protected masses" are so stupid, they can't figure out they're the ones being shot and killed!
Keep voting dumbocrat, keep getting screwed over.

Good morning SCC,

We'd need to see a 25% reduction in homicides for the remaining five months to NOT exceed 700 for the year. We're sticking with our forecast of 750-775 homicides with the total shot number around 4,000.

Stay safe,

Technology is not there yet--- I have 2 drones... one cost $5,000 and the other cost $1,400... the battery life on the drones is about 25 minutes. You have to consider the fact that Dailey has not set up a drone company as to the reason why there are no drones up in the air. Second, please remember no matter how much other people's money chicago spends; if you are not gonna lock up the criminals with convictions-- why really spend the money on funnin?

Give me a break. I liked the man but he never made a narcotics arrest on a beat which was nothing but a dope spot. All his recruits never learned how to make the arrest, then were intimidated by him to stay off his beat. It is because of that lack of policing that has made that Beat the worst. Lack of being Policed. Not one of his recruits left not knowing the location of every fire hydrant though..... RIP Teneleven......

You are wrong if that's what you took out of riding with the man for a month than so be it, but the rest of the hundred or so may have had a different perespective. It wasn't what he did or showed you what made him the officer he was but how he did it. He knew every dope spot inside and out and by that he knew who the parents were, where they went to school, who their family was. That's why when there was something serious (selling dope to hypes isn't) happened he k ew The Who,what, where , when and why. Being a detective now the detail in case reports make our lives easier.
