- Seven people have been shot, two of them fatally, on Sunday evening in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, authorities said.
The shooting wounded seven people at 5:17 p.m. at Rockwell Street and 46th Place, according to the Chicago Police and Fire departments.
Two of the people shot have died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could confirm one death Saturday evening.
We don't know why there isn't an armored front-end loader and a garbage truck going around to these candle-and-bottle memorials scooping this garbage up as soon as the gangs start depositing trash on the public way. These heaps of crap attract dumbasses from far and wide and someone always gets shot within a few days.

One of my favorite stories: Was in Ferguson after that goof attacked the officer. They had this pile of garbage memorial on the sidewalk and one night it burned. Of course it was blamed on the police. No, a misplaced or tipped over candle could not have started the fire. Stupid, stupid people.
After years of this shit, I really don't care about how many dead there are in Chicago any weekend. This kind of urban diversity is no longer something I find interesting. It could have been 20 dead at the street memorial. Who the hell care?
My mom's cousin lived on that block for decades until she passed. I remember visiting her as a kid in the 70s and 80s, playing on her block, chit chatting with friendly neighbors, and the only fear I experienced was not having enough change when the ice cream truck showed up.
I wonder what happened to that area since then? It seemed like such a quiet, respectful, and well-maintained neighborhood back in the day.
This will be the new norm. It will become commonplace. But the ACLU will be satisfied that fewer criminals are being stopped.

You're 100% correct. I grew up in Brighton Park. I moved out when I got married in '75 -- though family stayed thru the years, my M-I-L finally moved out by us a couple years ago. Anyway, the crap that's been going on in Brighton Park with the f--kin' gangs, shootings, with rifles no less, was un-fucking-thinkable.
And its not like there wasn't any firearms around 'back then'. Everyone I knew had at least a handgun or two, many had shotguns and rifles too, this was when we were 'adults'. Naturally, when we were kids many parents had a shotgun or pistol in the house. The difference being between then and now: .......

I started working in 009 in the 80's.
Thirty plus years ago that area was very quiet and suburban like.
The times they are a changing and not at all in a good way.

Yes 009 is definitely short on manpower.
However they're not even properly using the manpower they do have.
You've got way too many special people hidden away in Admin( regular secretaries, executive secretaries( WTF is that?),DIO's, CompStat guys, extra review guy etc)
Then you've got incident teams that have almost no accountability and are seldom around for more than 5-6 hours.
009 is badly undermanned. # 3 or 4 in homicides last year and they don't even have Rapids in the district. When things go bad in the district they have to get other districts to help.
If you want the benefits of a sanctuary city, whatever they may be, you must be willing to accept the downside, like this. Is it really worth it?
