How BS was ABC Report?

  • In the investigation, the I-Team uncovered thousands of domestic violence complaints against Chicago police officers.

In a database obtained through a the Freedom of Information Act request, the I-Team found 5,280 domestic violence complaints filed against Chicago police officers since the year 2000. That's more than 340 complaints filed every year and on average, nearly one per day.
And how many per day does CPD respond to?
  • Chicago police respond to nearly 500 domestic related calls a day, according to the latest department data; calls for help at home from across the city.
So let's break out the slide rule - 500 per day, 365 days in a year....182,500 in a non-Leap Year. So 340 CPD domestics per year versus 182,500 citizen domestics per year is about 0.19% of the total...not even a full percentage. That's positively law abiding. Back to the numbers:
  • ...the I-Team found 5,280 domestic violence complaints filed against Chicago police officers since the year 2000.
Golly, that's fully half the Department! Unless there are duplicates. Guess what? There are. Hundreds. Many hundreds. Because once you're in a bad relationship, it follows you many times. One of you is stuck in a bad behavioral spiral, one of you is calling the police semi-regularly (or the neighbors are) and CR's are pretty much automatically generated, even if neither party wants to pursue it - hence the many closed investigations. What percentage of the 5,280 are those?

And we ran our names through the Invisible Institute database, and guess what? We're named in a series of "Domestic incidents." You know why? Because we responded to Domestics, someone wasn't happy and complained to IPRA, and now we have "Not Sustained" domestic beefs on our publicly accessible disciplinary history, even though we've never laid a hand on our spouse, roommate, significant other, etc. How many of those supposed 5,280 are those?

The Department says the following:
  • The Chicago Police Department takes any allegation against a police officer seriously, especially in cases of domestic violence. While a complaint or allegation against an officer is not an inherent implication of guilt, all domestic complaints against an officer are fully investigated by IPRA and officers are held accountable in cases of substantiated criminal or administrative misconduct.
Chuckles and his iTeam might want to review that underlined portion of the statement. An allegation is not indicative of guilt or a cover-up. Allegations need proof. Proof requires acceptable admissible testimony under oath according to the Rule of Law duly passed by the Legislature. It's a pretty basic concept for any grade-schooler taking a Constitution test. Not so much for a media in thrall to a midget mayor demanding "bad police" stories to deflect attention from three dead kids. Plus, as we just showed, twisting numbers until they get you the result you want just makes you look like hacks.....or more like hacks than you already are.

Obviously the Department is covering up domestic violence committed by its members, as the Department covers up the physical abuse of citizens by its members. The connection is so blatant that any reporter can draw the inference.

The supposed 5280 number (number of feet in a mile) makes me highly suspicious that the entire article is a slanderous hoax, much like the UVA rape hoax committed by Rolling Stone magazine. Oh Shit...

Does this mean that Team Rahm Emanuel somehow didn't "win"

Even with the help of Chuck

Heh...

Rahm must be abso-fucking-lutely BESIDE

It seems Rahm Emanuel is in the
beginning phase of knowing FEAR

evil, reptilian life.

Especially after his last
foray into D.C. fell flat.

We imagine it was all kinds o' funny
when Rahm showed up at the People's House
at 1600 Pennsylvania trying to peddle
his bullshit to Team POTUS and the
new gatekeeper, USAG Sessions...

It's as if Rahm was on the business end

OT I just want to inform officers out there that there is an individual running for FOP Recording Secretary by the name of John Cantanzara, he refers to retirees as "old fucks" and they should not be allowed to vote in the FOP elections. Well Officer Cantanzara I'm currently on the job and may in fact agree that retirees rights should be limited when it comes to FOP elections, but to degrade retirees who served this city and gave years of their lives up just like we current members are now doing is a disgrace. I find it very sad that someone running for a position on our union board cannot treat retirees with respect. Need I remind you Officer Cantanzara you too will be a retiree one day and will have earned the respect that should be given to all retirees, I for one will never refer to any retiree in a degrading way and hope all current officers will give them the respect they deserve. To all officers and retirees out there I wish you good health and stay safe.

Look, we all know what most news media stands are about. Gowdy is not an objective person. Rather he is the kind of negative person who wants to fan the flames and then watch them burn for ratings. This story is no different. He needs to find out who killed their producer in Peru or wherever it was rather than this slanted story. Move forward everyone. We don't need to dwell on this. If you saw Trump's rally in Florida on Saturday, you have to be invigorated about his comments supporting law enforcement, the law and the response from the crowd. The reality is Chuck Gowdy is a zero and everyone know's it.

So basically, if someone beefed on a copper on a domestic call, these numbers are included as a "domestic incident" according to Chuckles numbers. Obvious bullshit, no investigative reporting. The whole I-Team should be ashamed at the lack of investigation on this one. But when Rahm needs to take the heat off himself, Rahm can always count on the I-Team to jump on the "bad police" band wagon and drum up some fake outrage.

Last night the Local news had the first interview with Anita Alvarez, and she called herself a scapegoat. She called the verdict in Cmdr. Evans case: "Horrific", and that is an exact quote of the word she chose to describe Evans being found innocent. She also boasted having prosecuted more cops than anyone before her. However, two key points, which leads me to believe she does not want Mendoza to eclipse her as the Chief Token Josefina in Da Machine: 1. She would not give up Rahm. Made no mention of Why it took so long to release the McDonald tape. 2. She made no mention of when she saw, or became aware of the McDonald tape. Then on another news front, Det. Chief Fr. Faker is talking about how the Police Contract needs input from the Community and certain givens in the Contract must be changed. Rahm will frequently use tactics from his Glory Days in the 90's at the Clinton White House. One of those tactics was to flood the Media with Negative Stories about an opponent. Something is going on here, because suddenly the Local News I Teams are coming up with very Negative Police stories, local and otherwise. Coincidence, or concerted effort to undermine FOP elections and future negotiations. Whichever the case, the Media is throwing a lot of anti-police stuff into the water. Be especially careful, and remember: The Media and Rahm are looking for a New Poster Boy/Girl to make cops look bad. Don't be that person. Baby"G"

Again, without knowing how many duplicates are there, ALL of the numbers are bullshit (which was our point). We've been to the same address three times a tour some nights - dozens of times a year in some cases.

Our point was that the iTeam numbers are just political fodder to smear the police. The ratio of police v citizens PER CAPITA isn't too far different according to the published research, but obviously, the media had their agenda.

As a retired Sergeant who worked in a large district I can tell you that this report is suspected. We had habitual domestic complainers in the district. There was one in particular that I used to respond to where the husband worked in a very fast district and would work overtime with an arrest etc. Every time this officer came home late from work his wife would call and make a complaint alleging misconduct. I tried several times for this couple to get help but both would end up refusing help. There were others who were fueled by alcohol would call and make a complaint almost every weekend. The case that stands out to me to this day was we were called to a banquet hall because the wife got into an argument with her husband because she thought he was flirting with one of the waitress severing the table dinner. I could go on and on but like I said, this exposé is supsected

Call me Mr. Lips

While I posted about ABC 7 very recently, I feel compelled to opine on what has become a media circus.

To respond to all of ABC 7's treatises would take up too much room and time. I would like to address the most supercilious ones, though. But before I continue, allow me to explain that by comparing today to even ten years ago and projecting the course we're on, I'd say we're in for an even more muddleheaded, iconoclastic, and choleric society, all thanks to ABC 7's positions. The cast-off ideas of debunked philosophy on which ABC 7 has based most of its despicable, gin-swilling dissertations do tell us one thing. They tell us that ABC 7 maintains that either it and its cringers should ultimately decide what opinions are acceptable or unacceptable or that its cabal is a colony of heaven called to obey God by barring people from partaking in activities that cannot be monitored and controlled. ABC 7 denies any other possibility. I oppose ABC 7's perceptions because they are abusive. I oppose them because they are blathering. And I oppose them because they will slow scientific progress sooner than you think.

If you've never seen ABC 7 fill the air with recrimination and rancor, you're either incredibly unobservant or are concealing the truth from yourself. A long time ago I wrote that “ABC 7 has been violating the public trust by using both overt and covert deceptions to violate strongly held principles regarding deferral of current satisfaction for long-term gains”. Today I might add that I do not appreciate being labeled. No one does. Nevertheless, ABC 7 claims that the betterment of society depends upon its turning a deaf ear to need and suffering. I have my told-you-so's primed and ready to go as soon as people start noticing that by letting ABC 7 do something as testy as that, we are forgetting that it will probably respond to this letter just like it responds to all criticism. It will put me down as “pathological” or “insecure”. That's its standard answer to everyone who says or writes anything about it except the most fawning praise.

That all said, Goudie can kiss my pasty ass.

Ahem, the math is skewed?

Census data indicate 2.7 mm inhabitants as of 2015.
23% are less than 18 yrs old and 10% are over age 65. Some of the geezers and youngsters could generate Domestics, so let's estimate that 30% of the 2.7 million could not: that leaves 70%, or 1.9 million. Although some women cause them, let's say that about half the population could even conceivably create the need for a Domestic call. That leaves about 950,000 candidates. They caused 182,000 calls, for a 19% probability in a given year.

All 12,500 cops reportedly (and that is Reportedly, with all the skepticism SCC rightly notes re crappy book-keeping, multiple calls, etc) generated 340 calls. That amounts to 2.7% probability per year per cop. That is 14%, or 1/7th, the rate of the candidate population policed by these folks, where our police have to go home after seeing and dealing with all the crap we civilians hope we never have to witness, much less experience.

And if you really think all the women in Chicago between 18-65 yrs should be candidates then you can drop the overall rate in half, to about 9.5% -- still about 3.5 times as likely as a member of the police force.

Finally, one has to wonder if our friends at ABC have ever asked themselves, would the rate of spousal abuse by cop would go up, or go down, if the inhabitants and leadership and media of the city were better behaved and more supportive of our police?

"Your math is skewed. There's 12000 police officers and 3.500,000 citizens"
(btw, that should be 3,500,000 not 3.500,000 which would really skew the results)

Ok then, divide 3,500,000 by 12,000. That gets you 292, if you round up. 292 times as many "citizens" as police officers.

Now according to the ABC report, there are 340 domestic violence complaints filed against Chicago police officers on average each year. That's 340/365 per day.

Let's project that rate to the general population: 292 x 340/365 = 272

But the actual number filed per day against the general population is nearly 500, which is 84% higher. So all the ABC report demonstrates is that domestic violence is 84% higher in the general population than it is in the CPD population.

And given that the ABC report arguably overstates the count of domestic violence complaints filed against Chicago police officers, that disparity is likely even higher.

Q.E.D.

so when you take the 340 per year for police and the 12000 officers you get a result of 0.0283%

When you take 182500 for the 3.5 million citizens you get 0.0521% so I guess the numbers did not skew negatively towards police like you thought.

Carrie Austin exporting Chicago values

CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Ald. Carrie Austin’s grandson Kenneth Austin has been taken into custody on murder charges in Chicago in connection with a fatal shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, last month.

The Chicago Sun-Times confirmed with Chicago Police that Kenneth Austin, 28, was taken into custody on Feb. 8 on the South Side based on an out-of-state warrant from Louisville. Police could not provide information on the charges for which the warrant was issued.
A spokesman for the alderman, one of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s most powerful City Council allies, confirmed Kenneth Austin is Carrie Austin’s grandson, but had no further comment on Monday; Carrie Austin will issue a statement on the matter on Tuesday, the spokesman said.

Kenneth Austin has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder, robbery, tampering with evidence and possession of a handgun by a felon in connection to the fatal shooting on a 25-year-old man during a robbery on Jan. 30 in Louisville, according to Jefferson County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jeffrey Cooke.

Kenneth Austin is being held at the Cook County Jail, the Cook County sheriff’s office confirmed Sunday.

He is the son of Kenny Austin; his father, the son of the alderman, resigned from a $72,384-a-year city laborer’s job in 2015 after an internal investigation concluded he crashed a city vehicle while driving on a suspended license in 2012, then had a co-worker cover for him to avoid taking a mandatory drug test.

Maybe when two people are fighting, and they both WANT to fight and both participate in fighting, even physically fighting, in their own home, it is THEIR business and not any else's business...

What a shocker...what an idea....like, people minding their own business, instead of trying to mind everyone else's business FOR them.

I submit the simple point that cops have much better, more productive and far more important things to do than be marriage counselors to people who didn't ask for their help in the first place.

I do remember HL Mencken writing about Baltimore correspondents sitting in the tavern getting lubricated and making up stories so they'd all be in agreement and they wouldn't have to go outside. "Newspaper Days". Great writing.

182000 domestic incidents per 2.7 million people is 7%. 340 domestic incidents per 13,000 officers is 3%. The general public in Chicago is twice as likely as police officers to be involved in a domestic incident.

Retirees shouldn't be able to vote on anything except the pension stuff. They should have zero say in what active members are dealing with.

Another reason to ask for a 20% raise, high domestic incidents and divorce rates . An occupational hazard for cpd officers.

OT: According to Police On Boston PD just got 8% over 4 years. Didn't not look for other details.

"While a complaint or allegation against an officer is not an inherent implication of guilt, all domestic complaints against an officer are fully investigated by IPRA and officers are held accountable in cases of substantiated criminal or administrative misconduct." Then why run the story? IF the complaint is about a domestic call that was improperly handled. But, not a domestic involving the employee as an offender or accused. This would be a false light invasion of privacy. The "news" can not fly under the First Amendment excuse.

OT,.. not really. Is there any concern of the tablets given to fto's are being used at home. Possibly disseminating info of citz and/or police. Passed around as a talking piece. This just doesn't seem well thought out.

You are absolutely right. Why would retirees give a fuck about more cars in the contract? Fucking new hires out of duty availability pay in the contract. Percentage of merit promotions that everyone wants but can't get in the contract. Mandatory residency in the contract. Retro pay?
Ya, you have some good ideas there. What about anything about medical insurance? Would that be alright for retirees to have a say on? They can't go on the medical anymore. They have done their time and been through a lot more than you have and left the heavy lifting to all you VRI, retro pay people. Keep up the good work! How are all those new vehicles from the last contract working out?

____
There was a civilian female who lived with a PO. He came home late after a few pops and they had an argument loud enough for the neighbors to hear an call police. It wasn't physical, but a report for simple assault was done naming the PO as the offender based on the female saying she was afraid. Not sure of the details there. OPS contacts her a few days later and she retracts and does not want to go through with any type of complaint. They contact her again. And again. And again. They show up at her home. They call her at home. They start calling her at work. She tells them to stop contacting her. They start showing up at her job asking for her saying it was a police investigation. Now her bosses are wondering WTH is going on. If this was an ex, it would be stalking. They would not leave her alone. She ends up calling CPD on OPS so they would finally leave her alone.

Alot of these case reports were generated by officers to CYA. My case I got into it with my college age son who decided to be a little too aggresive and come at me in a threatening manner. I took no action, left his room and then he went to stay with my ex. She is a POS so a report was generated asap so she didnt tyr to screw me by having him make up some bs and cost me time.

Boston got 8 percent over 4 years. Graham told my roll call 80 percent pensions for 25 years, free health care at 50, and 12 percent raise over 8 years. He got my vote. Not!!!

Isn't good to paint a certain group with wide brush
Not all retirees think like you think they do. I still pay my FOP dues and am all for the current po's getting better benefits. I had a great run with the CPD and am all for the active guys
Another point to ponder. What percentage of retirees have kids on the job. I think you would be surprised, maybe even 2 or 3 on the job and I would hope the retiree would do everything In his power to vote for anything that would benefit the kids
We are not all, I got my , now you get yours.
