FOP Ballots Are Out

And what a cast of characters.

We've been attempting to remain quiet on this front, seeing as how the last few elections, everyone and their brother used our comment sections to spread all sorts of nonsense and stories about the other tickets. We got sick if it early this year and clamped down most of it.

That being said, we've had a lot of beefs with the current occupants and more than a few with most of their opponents, who happen to be previous occupants of the top offices. It's turned into a clusterfuck of immense proportions and it plays into Rahm's hands any way you cut it.

We still haven't received an adequate answer to the golf outing money. Big problem. The previous president is running a solo campaign, and quite frankly, we haven't gotten over the letter issue when egos got the better of a whole bunch of people. Some of the other characters who thought it was more important to go after an insignificant blog than to represent the members are among the roll call of bitter losers.

We have no advice aside from the following:
  • Incumbents are bad
  • Active members over retirees (or soon-to-be retirees)
  • Patrol over Detectives/Units (but not Dougherty)
Take it any way you want it. Impoliteness will be deleted.

Angelo needs to go. He couldn't even negotiate a decent merit promotion for his son. For how bad that last contract was Dean Angelo Jr should be a DC at least.

Vote all incumbents out. No question about it.
It will make the new guys feel they need to be accountable and effective and do their jobs or they won't get elected again.
Current FOP are in it for themselves and the $$$$ and other connections. Vote them out!!!!

And the other spots ??? the picking are slim remember who ever is the PREZ can put whoever he want in the paid office spots!

And check out DEANs videos a whole lot of gibberish from a college boy! He actually wants props for signing a letter to let the mayor know we want a contract!

We need to put a working copper ticket together, in this comment section. The scc recommendations are a very good place to start. The patrol division has got to take control of this organization. Come on district guys. Get off your asses and do something. Dean has to go. He is retiring, and he failed both the working and the retired people.

All I can say is HELL NO to Angelo his son and anyone in his crew! He gave us a shit contract and we sure as hell don't want him doing the next contract, which will be the most important contract Ever! I'm giving Kevin Graham and Mary Prieb a shot. Kevin knows what he's doing and hasn't had a shot yet. I'll give him 4 years. If he gets us nothing on this contract then he's out next election. Kevin needs to get us big raises(no more BS 10% over 5 years) We need our last step raise at 20 years. Pension max out at 25 years like every one else. Lift residency after 10-15 years of service. The sky's the limit Kevin. If the city wants to change our discipline protections then ask for the world in return.

A bunch of self important handjobs on all the tickets, so who cares. None of them are working beat cars in this environment nor do they give two shits about how the city dogs out blue shirts. The last contract was horseshit, and the city pisses on it daily. The FOP is totally irrelevant. If anyone is "Fetal" its our union. Even when there is an obvious violation of the contract, they try to talk you out of a grievance, "Are you sure you want to do that." Yes dipshit I'm sure. What's the point of a contract if the union doesn't make sure it isn't violated. And God forbid you arrive on the wrong crime scene or assist, you're getting fired or sent to callback. Nearly 20yrs on and the union has been a total waste of my money. Ballot is already in the recycling bin, I'll pass.

I got my Deano letter today. The front page is nothing but fluff. If you read the back of his letter you get to what he has accomplished:

1. He lowered his salary
2. He lowered the salary of the trustees.
3. He claims "we" worked tirelessly with the lobbyists we hired. I would love to hear an actual accomplishment. I'm sure if there was something to brag about it would have been listed but there is nothing.

Here is what Dean DIDN'T accomplish:

1. Dean got us body cameras but didn't get us any protections with it. For ex. When 2 cops from the 2nd Dist stopped Bobby Rush & Bobby Rush LIED & said he was racially profiled why couldn't the City release the body camera video?
Because Dean didn't fight for our rights for us. So the politicians that DEMANDED we wear body cameras can lie about our actions and even if there is video to prove otherwise we can't release the video without the complainants permission. So much for transparency...

2. Dean had the chance to go after Rham when Rham's email bragging about taking away retiree healthcare was leaked. Dean should have been on EVERY news channel ripping Rham about how he protects illegals but he is killing the men and women who dedicated their lives serving Chicagoan's, but Dean did nothing

3. The DOJ report came out you'd think with all the local AND national media coverage Dean would have been in front of the cameras defending us but our union released a statement 5 days later.
FIVE DAYS!!

4. The new CR matrix was released 2 weeks ago. Most P.O's aren't aware it is active. You can take time for swearing. You would think our FOP President would call Rham on this bullshit (whoops, that's a day) considering the midget is KNOWN for having a potty mouth. Remember he cussed out CTU Pres Karen Lewis? (not that I blame him). Did Dean ask Rham why there are 2 sets of rules or ask Rham if he is taking time for swearing? NOPE.....he did nothing.

Now let me switch to what Dean accomplished...

1. He got us the 2 tier PPO medical. So if your hospital / doctor is not tier 1 PPO you now pay 15% more out of pocket.

2. He got us a Co-Pay for our PPO insurance of $20 for tier 1 doc's and hospitals and $30 for tier 2 doc's and hospitals which DON'T EVEN COUNT TOWARD YOUR DEDUCTABLE

(btw, I believe Luthern General, NorthWestern, & Christ are all tier 2. Looks like the City did their homework before they selected the tier 2 hospitals. I wonder what % of officers use those hospitals? Hmmmmm)

3. He let the City charge 2% now for the 55 and out.

4. He saved the City $3,600 per recruit per year eliminating duty availability for new hires. It comes to 12,600 per officer by the time they hit 42 months and get duty availability. If Rham hires 1000 the City saves 3.6 million per year over the 3 1/2 half years.

5. He gave the City 15 more years to fund our pension.

6. He claimed a victory in getting SB 440 passed for the retirees but guess what? SB 440
was introduced by the FIRE DEPARTMENT and we were not added on until 1 1/2 yrs later.

7. 500 people got new Nike golf shoes at the golf outing for around $100 a piece. Dean tried to deny this but un?-fortunately his treasurer Capparelli was very clear about this expense at a general meeting. The golf outing ran some $25,000 over budget but luckily Dean had our Union dues to cover it.

8. Dean waived the RETRO on the OT we worked during the first year of the contract (6/12 - 6/13) however, a candidate for 3rd VP -R.B.- discovered that was ILLEGAL. The officer filed a lawsuit & Dean tried to cover his ass & say it was an obscure labor law....HOW THE F#$% DOES A P.O. find an "obscure" law that our PAID labor attorney & the City's PAID labor attorney miss? Maybe the Union should hire the P.O. next contract.

Hope this helps people make an informed decision.

Well my take is. ...nobody has made any consistent, competent, sound, plan on addressing pension, insurance, or discipline bargaining issues.....none. it seems to be the same rhetoric. All campaign claims are ridiculously smoke and mirrors, bait and switch. .....but the nerve of that spoiled child (Sheilds) was the last straw. With that being said, most of the arbitration contract deals are made after the vote. ..I'm no fan of the incumbent, but his boots are already on the floor, starting with a regime puts us at square one,as there will be a negotiative learning curve. As far as what we want, we need to push as members collectively .....not rely on "newbies" to push the I can do better. Lord knows, let's deal with the devil we know instead of the one we dont.

Have been following the "campaign" and you're right, SCC, the situation is dismal at best. The Retired CPD Assn. even decided to endorse Deano and listed his "accomplishments" which includes an alternative health care plan when the city informed Deano that many retirees would lose health benefits. The replacement plan is a joke which Dean actually boasts about. At this point, the only person i have any faith in is Marty Prieb. The Presidential contest will probably remain blank on my ballot. The one Director who will NOT get my vote is double dipper Ken Hauser, who has navigated the pension flotilla over and under the Dam.
Shame that there is no candidates forum which would help us make an informed choice. Anything that SCC could provide would be appreciated. And to all members, current & retired: PLEASE VOTE! Politicians don't take us seriously when our own union election garners only 20% of the members taking the time to vote and mail in their ballot. Send Rahm a message!

I would not vote for P.O. McGuire. He and I were in the academy. Honestly I haven't seen him since but his dad was on the job and I just remember Jim thinking he already had 20 years on. I remember him thinking he was it as he talked down to the rest of us.

What is it when PPOs have family on the job they think they are already the police? P.O. Carl S. was the same way. Both of them were in my class and both had dads on the job and both thought they walked on water. I'm not advocating anyone else just not McGuire.

Kevin Graham has never put handcuffs on anyone so do you really want a leader of a police union to be someone that has never done police work? That goes for that blogger creep Martin Prieb. Both "footmen" that could not put together an arrest packet if they were given the entire narrative. No thanks. You need people that have don the job, not a bunch of posers. I need guidance when I'm involved in a traumatic incident on this job, not a book talking about the past. I need the real police to guide me, not some porno looking dude or an author that knows nothing about a general order or a contract.

FACT: Rich Aguilar failed allowed the CR grievance to sit dormant, along with a shit ton of other grievances, allowing out CRs to remain on a list that was released.

FACT: The FLSA lawsuit filed by Bartlett was filed by a former FOP attorney (Paul Geiger) that allowed Shields to not submit the letter. So this same attorney makes over $300,000usc on winning the FLSA law suit. His fuck up in the failure to submit the letter made him money and our guys pennies, but you guys are touring it as a win.

FACT: Kevin Graham was was ousted from the State FOP board for being completely useless, even more useless down there as he is as a copper.

FACT: Martin Prieb writes about what real policemen do because he has never done any police work himself. But please try and sell me another book next time you come to my roll call.

FACT: Mark Donahue was being paid as a lobbyist under Shields and accomplished absolutely nothing.

FACT: ALL these Jokers on this team have been doing nothing but lying to policemen for the last month and a half, some have been lying to you in FOP positions for over 12 years.

Now let me switch to what Dean accomplished...

He got us the 2 tier PPO medical. So if your hospital / doctor is not tier 1 PPO you now pay 15% more out of pocket.
During the vacuum of the illegal dismissal of Shields the letter did not get sent in. Every union in the city settled for this shit. Fop was the last to get to the table. They got a two year reprieve and we are the only city union NOT in the punitive wellness program.

He got us a Co-Pay for our PPO insurance of $20 for tier 1 doc's and hospitals and $30 for tier 2 doc's and hospitals which DON'T EVEN COUNT TOWARD YOUR DEDUCTIBLE
Every union in the city settled for this shit. Fop was the last to get to the table. They got a two year reprieve from every other union. A big thank you to Dougherty for this one. Billy boy also said Obamacare is a good option for retirees.

(btw, I believe Luthern General, NorthWestern, & Christ are all tier 2. Looks like the City did their homework before they selected the tier 2 hospitals. I wonder what % of officers use those hospitals?
Every union in the city settled for this shit. FOP could have gone after a public safety exception but our Sergeants Assc. Eat this with a promise maybe someday you could get a 80% for them and no one else! Lt’s/Capt’s and fireman all agreed to this shit then too. That what the coup of Shields cost you.

He let the City charge 2% now for the 55 and out.
Remember the Sgt’s agreed to this along with pension give backs? Capt’s and Lt’s and the firemen did too during he vacuum of the illegal dismissal of Shields the letter did not get sent in. All of this shit is right on the feet of Dougherty, Graham, Ag-u-liar, and Donahue

He gave the City 15 more years to fund our pension.
We now have a mitimus clause that guarantees their payments. And the casino bill which is now part of the budget negations give police/fire all the proceeds. The pension could be funded in half the time

He claimed a victory in getting SB 440 passed for the retirees but guess what? SB 440
was introduced by the FIRE DEPARTMENT and we were not added on until 1 ½ yrs later.
Fop got the votes to override the Governors veto with the help of the State FOP, The State Troopers Lodge, and the State Labor Council. The Chicago fireman have no influence South of I-80 or west of 355.

The golf outing has always lost money as does the picnic. FOP is a 501 non-profit. The guys in the giftshop told me they make a profit. The extra stuff eats the money up or FOP is no longer a non-profit.

Mike Shields states he was told by in house attorney Paul Geiger (a Dougherty bud) the “letter” was not needed. Then a po sitting at Homan Square with nothing to do spends hours figuring the big retro check on all those mysterious overtime hours. He goes out and hires the same lawyer who screwed all of us! The lawyer now makes court fees! You Can’t make this shit up!

Hope this helps people make an informed decision.

How come the video of Rep. Commie Rush was never released for public viewing? He made a big deal about it, a public statement no less, why isn't it being released? Why isn't the FOP demanding this?

How about the most important all the coppers that have beeen fired under him . .

Can any of the Po's that have worked with Deano JR tell us of anything that he has done to deserve a merit promotion other that daddy being fop pres. ? Who nominated Deano jr. ?
If he only obtained that promotion based on daddy's job. Deano Sr. has to have given up something from the rank and file.

I can't understand the rational that has a FOP board, supposed to represent active duty police officers, that is predominantly run by retirees. I can't even believe that a retired guy can VOTE. That needs to change. Sorry, you guys paid you dues as cops but you're on the bench now. You don't have a right to vote on decisions that affect MY ACTIVE POLICE JOB. There's a difference and should be.

Putting street cops in isn't the answer either, they sometimes forget where they come from. Mix up the tickeet, vote for retirees too, as a retired guy I still car about the working police. I say give Dean another try. Make it known that we are not totally pleased with him. Rahm is out to s rew all unions.

Only one guy I know for sure who I'm voting for .... Martin Preib.
Guys I definitely am not voting for ... shields and Angelo. You must be insane, actually insane to vote for shields again. Do you have that short a memory about how bad things were with him in office? Angelo has not done anything. I honestly can't think of one single positive thing he's gotten us. It's all been huge negatives or just absolute silence from his administration. Another 4 years of that, no f'n way.
I'm tired of the same old guys too. Aguilar, Donahue, Doherty, McDonough etc.
I'm thinking of maybe that guy running from 018? Anyone have more info on him? Otherwise I'll prob go with graham cracker. He's most likely the least of the evils and at least he has some experience with the fop so we wouldn't be starting at square one with a learning curve. Can't believe we don't have better choices tho for the top spot. I've met some great guys over the years that are smart as hell, wish they'd run.

I am a retiree and I have always said that the position of a union leader should come from the working rank and file. In other words the president of the FOP should be a active member of the department. NO RETIREE OR ANYONE ON LONG TERM DISABILITY SHOULD EVER BE PRESIDENT. I been retired over 10 years now and to be honest with everyone I don't know how it is to be on the job at the present time. I could tell you how it was around the time I retired but to honest with myself I don't know what it is like now. The problem with Angelo is that he might have been a working police officer when he was in the gang crimes unit many, many years ago but can he honestly tell you how it is to be a beat officer in 6,7,11,or 15? How many years was he on disability? How many years ago did he work a beat car? If I am not mistaken after he got elected to FOP President position did he not have a breakfast meeting with the mayor and promised the mayor he was going to not be as vocal as the previous president regarding issues between the city and the union? I can criticized him all day but what is the point? You know better than I what type of leadership he has provided. Although I read SSC daily, it been years since I left and I know the job has changed. Don't get me wrong, I believe in a strong retiree mandate in the union. Lets face it, we will all be there someday(if we don't die in the mean time). To be fair the presidency should be a working PO with a strong retiree presence on the ticket.

DONHUE is a cancer and needs to be removed from any role in FOP. He sells the membership to his 19th ward masters. When stumping for votes and questioned about why he did not support a fellow police officer that is a lawyer for state representative and moving to have FOP support Fran Hurley the 19th ward secretary Mark stated "She was gonna win anyway" and She calls me when ever there is a vote that effects the police to ask how she should vote."
Well Mark, every vote she makes affects the police, their families, and pocket book. If she needs to ask you I call B.S. The fact that you didn't support the most qualified candidate a police officer and lawyer to legislate laws for the 19th ward secretary shows your for the Democrat machine. As far as "she was gonna win anyway" proves your not up to fight for the membership, but would go with the flow like a turd in the toilet bowl.

For the tier 1 tier 2 healthcare. Copays don't go toward your deductible must buy go toward your out of pocket max. On tier 2 hospital like Northwestern the most you are going to spend out of pocket is $1500 a year, the beverything is 100% free for the rest of the year. This benefit is great compared to every commercial Plan out there. Don't listen to Kevin's Grahm telling us how this new plan structure is going to send you to the poor house. As a retired teamster I would love to have had the 55-65 free healthcare and would gladly pay 2% if it was offered to me which it was not. I can't vote for my union officers but if I could I would vote for the guys that valued retirees as well as actives.

34-1/2 months ago Bill Dougherty gave a newspaper interview in the SouthTown Star to writer Phil Kadner in which he said Obamacare was a good option for retirees.

My question has always been why do we have cops, active or retired representing us? What makes any of us good at dealing with the lawyers who represent the city? There's plenty of police departments that have just hired a really good law firm to work out contracts for them and pay them with dues.
Lawyers show up to police involved shooting, sit in on debriefings, and make sure the city/ town sticks to the contract.
Why pay coppers Hugh salaries to represent us when we really need someone who knows what their doing.....
Athletes don't have other athletes working on contracts for them, no matter how great they are. Common sense....

Can someone explain to me the following:

I have met and worked with amazing officers over the years. Guys that would and have run into gunfire, literally, to save a fellow officer if necessary. How the fuck is it that we can't elect guys that are truly men or women of honor? With all the good people that exist on this department and have retired, how do we get stuck with a ballot filled with leeches and political hacks that care more about money than the thousands of men and women who have been willing to give all at any time to respond to their emergencies or 10-1s? It just makes no sense to me, none at all. I have no confidence that we will get an FOP that truly has the active/retired interests at heart and above their own. So, like EJ, enjoy your beefy salaries at the expense of thousands of active/retired members. I suppose it's an inconsequential price to pay to have financial gain and political connections.

This is not an endorsement however the letter we speak of regarding the Shields incident was also the responsibility of the ENTIRE BOARD. This incident was a shared mistake. As far as the ANGELO team, in my 20 plus years I have never heard complete silence from our union like we have with the current one. We need a vocal leader who is more outspoken and we need an aggressive leader and union, guys and girls our current union is too passive and timid, oh I don't want to hear any excuses about "the media won't listen to Dean or they won't put him on TV" That's why we have a national stage of media that love the police and would love to have DEAN on. The Kevin Graham team with DONAHUE and DOUGHERTY turned their backs on us in the past and became very arrogant. As far as the other teams running, I don't know much about them. I do know this though, we need a SHIELDS like pit bull personality that stands up to the city. Remember to vote!

Here's how I look at things dean gave to the city cost us more than any retro. Check would. (duty availability for new position, 2 tier health insurance for current guys, forgiving the city for lack on pension payment, healthcare for retires, contract protections, and 2 tier pension for new guys ). I could care less how much money you saved the FOP budget when my job is not protected, my rights aren't protected and I stand to loose everything over one incident. Right now is such an important time for Union that don't need a new guy to figure out what's going on and how to fight. Sending out pictures and video of dean delivering the letter means nothing. Any new president now would make sure after last fiasco. Shields isn't perfect by far but at least I know that he will fight on behalf of officers. Anyone else is a chance that we will get someone who we don't know is up for the fight. So I filled out my ballot for shields.

SCC I have to respectfully disagree with the following:

Incumbents are bad
Active members over retirees (or soon-to-be retirees)
Patrol over Detectives/Units (but not Dougherty)

Based upon that would leave the following:

Brock Merck as president
Pat Murray as 1st VP
Prieb as 2nd VP
Jay Ryan as 3rd VP
Catanzara Recoding Secretary
Garza as Financial Sec
Robbins as Treasure

As you can see NOT one person in this knows anything about anything. One has nut papers, another wears tin foil in his hat to keep out bad thoughts, and another one is punchy. Marty’s (Cornel Sanders) is a one issue guy only worried about selling his books.

What’s very sad is how many coppers are so uninvolved. The list of truly qualified candidates is so small that only one group has a full ticket.

Half of the guys in my unit are not voting.

Hopefully, all we see through this guy and vote for someone new!

To 1:55am & 2:20am, why don't you get involved with the union? If you were you would know that the offices of FOP are 3 years terms, not 4. Know your facts before hitching about which you two know nothing about !! Get involved go to meetings, then maybe you too can run for office & save our union, instead of bitching!!

We need to get rid of the BS section in the contract that states we lose our banked comp time if we get fired. How could that have ever been put into the contract. So I work OT and elect to defer it for another day. But is something happens and the dept rules that I get fired they get to keep my money. The dept has also used this part of the contract to insure officers don't fight getting fired. It forces officers to elect to resign rather then take their chances at a hearing. This is how all the officers, detective and Sgts involved in the laquan incident were forced to resign.

This needs to be passed around!!!

Union businesss is no place to learn the process by starting at the top.
It's one thing to know the job of your your membership, it's another to know what your doing in the business fundamentals of running an organization.
We don't really have much of a choice, but I'll have to favor the incumbent this time just so there's no more disorganization and tantrums.

New guys/gals out there...please vote and don't let Rahm Emanuel or any other politician think that your voice, no matter who you choose, has no say in his or their re-election too.

Mail that ballot.

Unions are just another captive taken during the social fascist alinskyite democrats "long march" thru the Institutions

Not only do they "corrupt" every Institution they seize, they "corrode" it as well

Since retirees are not technically Police anymore they shouldn't be allowed to hold any FOP office. Maybe they shouldn't even be allowed to vote in FOP elections. They should have their own organization like the FORP or something.

All those FOP positions should be held by active officers who are electable/accountable to the members

Just got my ballot today, one problem - I was promoted to Sergeant this past June and am no longer an active FOP member. FOP, maybe next time do a better job at finding out who your current members are before mailing ballots out. Way to add controversy to an election before votes are even counted. I'll kindly do the right thing and circular file mine, as for others ...

2/18/2017 03:41:00 AM

---------

Sergeants are allowed to vote if they are still fraternal members.

I have been a sergeant since 1998 and still vote in every election.

In the sergeants union only active members are allowed to run for office and vote.
That is the way IT SHOULD BE in the FOP.
However, until they change the bylaws in the FOP I will still vote for who I think are the best candidates.

Next, advance the collective message with the 40+ candidates running for office that are for law and order in order to reclaim a devastated city.

It would make international news, that police are taking back government from the corrupt in order to help the citizens of Chicago.

It takes work but it has to be done. Then do it again every two years. Keep hitting hard and we will knock a lot of the dents out of the crashed bus.

The simple fact is, sooner rather than latef, retirees will outnumber the active members. If active mebers dont wake up and vote to take back this union from the retirees who have hjacked the mission of lodge 7, then we will be doomed for good. The retirees already have the majority of the votes on the boardd. A concerted effort to separate active from retirees within Lodge 7 needs to be undertaken. Win or lose it will be my mission over the next three years to make that happen.

Dave Salzman for FOP Trustee. Running as an Independent who is not beholden to any "ticket".

15 year PO who works in patrol. Has pushed for FOP to be more transparent to members by introducing a motion which passed to have the Board Meetings recorded and placed on the FOP website for members to view. Pushed for the FOP to place the meeting minutes for both the General and regular Board Meetings online as well. All placed on the secure side of the website. Will keep members informed!

Will work to get straight Duty Trades for days off. You find a body to work for you and you in return work for them. No more getting denied days off based on manpower or some crap 15% rule and missing out on what's important to you. You are trading a body for a body which has zero effect on manpower. This benefit is available to departments across the country, why not here?

Will push for compensation for retired members subpoenaed for court testimony on events that occurred while employed by the City.

Will push to return benefits lost in the previous contract. Duty Availability for all. Return to furlough by District/Unit.

Faster completion to grievances - these seem to take 3 plus years, which is unreasonable.

Stop the surrendering of benefits gained in previous contracts. Benefits won for active and retired members are being stripped away! We should be GAINING benefits with each new contract not losing!

Wouldn't it be nice if ANY AND ALL candidates were required to put forth their bio's, work experience and educational backgrounds before there's an Election.
I personally know only 5 running for office and 4 of the now retired trustees. I can say I've met briefly 5 more of the total lot on the ballot. In my 30 yrs I don't think it's ever been any higher. I can't expect any young'un with 5 years to know more than 2 people on the total ballot.
That makes for a disaster in terms of having to blindly choose a capable candidate, especially relying on someone's else's opinion.
Campaigning with promises at the districts is hit or miss. No wonder there's so little interest and poor ballot returns.

National FOP should require Locals to dedicate a biography page on all candidates at least a month before elections.
I did see the Lodge 7 email showing that "the letter" for upcoming 2017 Contract talks being hand delivered to the Mayors Office.
Quite a jab.

Kevin Graham has been involved with state FOP for some time now. He's a familiar presence down there which is a good thing given the non-sense anti-police/pension weakening bills, legislation, etc that some of these fool politicians try to get passed down there. I can't speak to anyone else's experience with Kevin so I can only judge him based on my own. Years back I had an incident (aka f*@k- up) that he helped me out on and he really came through. He got the right guys lined up to handle it, and gave me solid advice on how to proceed. Not that I plan a repeat but I'd definitely trust him to take the lead on any shit I step in going forward. sadly due to all the things mentioned in the thread Ive been out of FOP as a retiree since 2012

Good luck

2/18/2017 12:42:00 AM

Yup,me too.Since 2012 also.Out of all the stupid decisions I've made in my "career",dropping out of FOP after retiring is something I've never regretted. What sort of fool would pay to be a member of a fraternal organization that not only doesn't represent you,but throws you under the bus?

Guess I'm that sort of fool that continues to pay my dues after retirement
Here's why. I can on in 65 when we had no union. No overtime, no seniority except for furlos, had to come back with no hrs on the books after furlough. 16 hr days on Election Day with NO overtime, no bids to directs, etc. so the union might not be great but did improve working conditions. It is limited by what it can accomplish because of the no strike clause
As far as completely blaming Dean for the healthcare fiasco that started in 1987 under mayor Washington and the phasing out over 3 years was a done deal before Dean got elected. Think about it,over 3 years ago the plan was implemented and Dean was elected yet
My final reason was the job, you notice I didn't say career was good to me and I don't think dropping what $35 a year is going to break my, but rather feel I'm helping the police that have come behind me. It's not always about me, but maybe the current members of the CPD

You know what's bad..........people running for spots claiming they are going to change everything and be the best for all. Problem is, most of these candidates have never done a bit of police work in their career. Everyone getting a ballot better think hard about who they want to represent them the next three years. You need someone that has put hands on some savage. Someone that has written paper justifying why hands were put on that savage. Someone that has testified at 26 and Cal. Someone that has been called down to give a statement. Someone that has been sued. At least some of the retired guys running have been the Police during their career. There are active guys running that have been on foot posts their entire career and others whose only time in court was observing so they could write a book. The FOP has become a spot like many units on this job. Be cautious what you ask for.

Anyone who knows Bob Bartlett and Marty Preib know that they are exactly what we need. Both extremely sharp and very outspoken.

Just a few more items I would.like to point out to help guys make informed decisions

The rest of Dean's ticket...

Ray Casino Jr.
I would say nice guy but that really doesn't matter. He is heavily involved in political elections but not very knowledgeable about union issues. Gets many complaints from officers because of it.

Tom McDonagh
Sold his soul for a field rep spot. Backed Dean after he had promised otherwise. Also completely screwed over 018 th district officers along w Dean when he allowed the formation of a non-bid 5th watch

Jay Ryan
This is tough because I know Jay personally. Again a great guy but in the grand scheme of things that is not what this is about. The problem I have is that he works for Tasers and to me that creates a big conflict of interest. He along w Dean pushed for the body cameras. I get that we were gonna get them sooner or later but they should have gotten us rights.

Kevin Kilmer
Oversees the unit reps. Has done a poor job. His last email blast to unit reps complained about management spots at the airport. How is it the Union isn't keeping track of bids and letting the City get away w/ it?

John Cappelli
The line bright spot on the ticket. John seems forth coming and honest. He was EXTREMELY pissed about Dean authorizing the golf shoes in his absence.

And btw....Thanks Dean for the TWO responses to my post about your letter. I guess I struck a cord there. I will respond to your lies Dean after I cover the rest of the tickets.

Why does Angelo think he deserves accolades for turning in the letter. Sorry that's your job. Hence why shield is no longer president.

Oops, forgot one on Dean's ticket...

Greg Bella
Greg, Greg, Greg.....there was a time back in the day that when I needed help at the FOP you were the guy I wanted to go talk to. I was new on the job then and you always had good war stories to tell. But that was a long time ago. What I'd really like to know now is what exactly happened with that check and that lawsuit. Somehow when you threw your support Dean's way and he won all of your troubles went away. So please tell us. Post it on Dean's Facebook page and explain what happened. I'd love to hear it.

Only 78 total candidates running for office. Pathetic folks, get the F involved now.

Here's the list. Like or hate them, they are all people that ask huge questions ALL of the time and are not embraced by the status quo. They all have great ideas that the past 4 administrations dismiss because they rock the boat.

Merck-------President
none--------1st VP
Prieb-------2nd VP
Bartlett----3rd VP
Cantanzara--Recording Secretary
none--------Financial Secretary
Whicher-----Treasurer
Markovich---Sgt at Arms
Roman-------Sgt at Arms

Trustees
Hebein
Hudik (both)
Learnahan (a must)
Munguia
Riley
Rini (a must)

2/18/2017 02:22:00 PM

FYI Learnahan and Rini car pool to must general meetings. More tha a few people on this list with a screw lose.

Dean will win easily because of the retirees and the new 3 percent C.O.L.A. he got for the last batch. Vegas has him as the heavy favorite 1 to 5.

2/18/2017 01:05:00 PM

The Puerto Rican Police Association (PRPA) and the Hispanic Illinois State Law Enforcement Association (HISLEA) have endorsed the Angelo so he gets the majority of the Hispanic vote. The Angelo team is the only one with blacks on it so they get a another small margin there. The Polish American Police Association (PAPA) also endorsed them. For these groups it’s the first time they have endorsed a ticket. The Retired Chicago Police Association (RCPA) also endorsed a FOP ticket for the first time in it’s history too.

Cook County FOP Lodge 4, Illinois FOP Labor Council, and Troopers FOP Lodge 41 all have endorsed Dean’s ticket. While each of these only carry the few family members they have on the CPD they add up.

And lastly Illinois State FOP Lodge has endorsed Angelo’s team. While this may not produce a lot of votes it says they do not want Graham, Donahue, Dougherty, Aguilar, DiMaria or Bourret to ever come back to Springfiled.

Angelo’s Team probably has 4k votes in the bag before voting started.

I say it's time to give Kevin Graham and his team a chance. Angelo had 4 years and so did Shields and they both were bad. Graham gets his 4 years and if he comes through then maybe he can do another 4. Don't let us down Kevin!

2/18/2017 02:22:00 AM

FOP TERMS ARE ONLY 3 YEARS!!! You guys not all that bright are you?

The eyelets on Kevin Graham’s arms, hands, and feet are so Donahue can move him around let the puppet he is.

Next up The Blue Voice....

Kevin Graham
Kevin was the chairman of the work schedule committee who got us the 4-2 schedule. Is currently and always has been a P.O. in 019/023. Was the VP of the State lodge the last 4yrs. He has been associated w/ the Citywide team. Take that last part as simply stating a fact....not saying it is good or bad.

Rich Aguilar
What can I say....people despise this guy. But again it's not about "this guy is a good guy or this guy is an asshole".
That said the City hates him too. He is very knowledgeable in regards to the contract.- just ask him- and does know it inside and out. If the team can keep him away from the membership and let him deal with the City while the others take care of the guys it might work out ok.

Marty Preib
This is the guy that scares Dean and the rest of his ticket. Marty is intelligent and well spoken. He would be a great asset to our Union w/ all the Anti-Police bullshit going on. Was instrumental in Glen Evans acquittal. Has put a massive spotlight on North Westerns innocence project and their lies to free criminals. I can almost guarantee 99%of the negative comments on here are Dean's crew. This guy should be and NEEDS to be a slam dunk

Robert Bartlett

Bob ran on his own in the last election and realized it is almost impossible to get elected unless on a ticket. With the choices available he felt The Blue Voice was the best option. Bob has filed several lawsuits against the City. The first was for the SWAT team and is still pending. The 2nd was the FLSA lawsuit for the 2% retro on behalf of ALL OFFICERS. Now earlier Dean tried to belittle the job Bob did in 2 comments but make no mistake. IF DEAN & OUR LABOR ATTORNEYS HAD DONE THEIR JOBS BOB WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO FILE THE LAWSUIT . Remember this: he wants to complain about Geiger filing the suit and if DEAN didn't give that retro away WHICH WAS ILLEGAL it would be a non issue. But just admit it Dean, you fucked up OR you had a backdoor deal with the City

Joe Ferenzi
He was also part of the SWAT lawsuit and filed a separate FLSA lawsuit regarding the power test. The City didn't even fight the suit however in court the City tried to pay off the attorneys and Ferenzi but they said "No!" and told the City they want it fixed for ALL OFFICERS.
Was also Mime Ceriale's partner. Had the best excuse to not do police work anymore but didn't quit.

Anita Whicher
Locked up the drunk female ASA that was Mother-fucking and fighting the police in either 023 or 019....I don't remember Wichita one it was. Not that it matters anyway. It just shows she won't back down.

Mike Mette
I don't think anyone has fought the City/Department more and in another jurisdiction as well

Al Francis Jr
His dad gave his life for this job. I don't think you will find someone who believes in the brotherhood more

Shields cost every patrolman thousands! Period!
He is the most pampered spoiled rich kid on this job. What has he learned? He's a huge medical abuser. Horrible cop. Horrible choice.

My dad and my father-in-law are both retired dics and are in several retired police email chains. Mike Shields is running solo but endorsed almost an entire ticket without asking anyone if they wanted to be endorsed. Now a half of dozen candidates are feverishly email and texting people disavowing Shields endorsement. Seems they think he’s a nut job with his mailer.

New Direction

I am only familiar with a couple guys on this ticket.

Jimmy McGuire
Is very vocal for his fellow officers in 018. Keeps them up to date on what is happening in the FOP and isn't afraid to stand up for his fellow officers. Has filed many grievances on their behalf. I think Jimmy would be a solid choice in many slots on a ticket but don't think he is ready for a spot as the President.

Rick King
Fought for K-9 for many years. Works hard for someone in his spot as trustee. Was directly affected by the Healthcare and is adamant about fixing it. Although he is a retiree I will be voting for him as a trustee

Mike Underwood
Anot her retiree I will most definitely vote for. Is the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit against the City for the retirees who have lost their healthcare

Can one former or current supervisor of Mike Shields come on this board and tell us he was not a lazy, scamming, pretend cop who name drops, blows off every job, and chases women during work hours? One? He is one of the most disliked officers on this department. Young officers... please do not fall for his fake tough guy image. It cost cops real money. Ask around to people who know him. Young officers need to be informed. Look at NYPD or Philadelphia. Real cops are president who represent cops who need it. Please, not Shields again. I read these comments and I am baffled that anyone other than his former trustees could write positive comments here.

Don't forget Ray Casiano is attached at the hip to Dean Angelo! Also was a dumbocrat 31st ward committeeman with the Berrios syndicate. Google Ray's name and you'll find he successfully threw a Republican candidate off the ballot a few years ago. Then look up the photo gallery from the Puerto Rican Police Association holiday party this past year if you don't believe it. Ray is all smiles with Joe Barrios. Hurry before they delete it!

Retired and I am going with the big mouth Kid, Mikey, he speaks out loud and will not be mute like Dean and his Dear Dean letter that is all zero'. Mikey will give us more bang for the buck and will be seen making news, saying like it is.

You are what is wrong with the FOP. Big mouth kid almost ruined us once so you want him back in quit showing your stupidity.

Kevin knows what he's doing and hasn't had a shot yet. I'll give him 4 years.

Kevin needs to lift residency like he did for himself. It is a three year term not four. You are voting and dont know how long the term is? Must be a democrat.

We need some one to call out people's bullshit and hold these politicians accountable. The only one crazy enough to do it was Mike Shields. Shields gets my vote!

2/18/2017 10:11:00 AM

It's all an act. He'll bark and make it look like he's a fighter but won't bite. He is in it for the money and nothing else. He's all for himself.

Why..?! Why...?! Why...?!

Did Deano and company never push that every cop, every cop's family member, friend and neighbor vote in the past elections.

(Hint: Rahm said don't and I will promise you some great post retirement goodies.)
