Rumors of Hiring

This has popped up in e-mail and comments:
  • Anonymous said...Rumor from R&D that the budget for SGt and LT has been raised. They are adding 100 new LT's and 250 Sgt.
We've heard the same thing with slightly lower and higher numbers. We've also gotten word that the uniform stores across the city have been told to pre-order equipment for a hiring wave of 1,000 starting early next year. And all of this is before any mention of a Detectives class or the DOJ final report, which everyone knows is going to call for increase supervisory ranks.

So with the "55 and out" provision expiring next year, does anyone have definitive number of people leaving? The lowest number we've heard is 600, the highest at just around 1,000. So this hiring "wave" is, once again, barely going to cover retirements.

How come there is no shortage of chiefs, deputies, commanders and captains?? But plenty of shortages of sergeants, detectives, evidence technicians, and patrol officers???

They always tell us "patrol" is the "backbone" of the department? If that is so, why is the backbone getting weaker and the weight to carry is getting heavier??

when the backbone is weakened far enough, the body will tumble and everything will fall with it.....

Unless your name is escalante, mcnaughton, gulliford, tobias, etc.,......

It is true about hiring, a female family friend failed her 1st power test due to having 15 lbs added to her press weight. She complained and told them the weight was wrong to no avail. After over a year the whole group of those who failed were retested, she passes that, the polygraph and she has a final power test v next monrh.

Four they'll eventually learn what to do and what not to do. Just like you and I did. And if they don't then Eddie will surely strip and fire them. The political power brokers, will continue to maintain the true power structure that exist where they are in control by way of nepotism run amok ; not only because they gifted a bunch of idiots a free job as a merit pick, but because they gave even those more cognitively challenged the answers to the test .

Da Communerty say:

"We can Po-leece ourse'f!"
"de-Fund da Po-leece an' gibs

Give them nothing but a good leaving behind.

Same thing.

Really...???? More supervisors? This ship is going to capsize if it gets any more top heavy. With the attrition of the department in recent years, the answer is we need more supervisors? How about a supervisor in every car? That will help. Better yet, make everyone a supervisor. Then they can stop wondering if there is enough out there.

I wonder if they can even find enough PO's to actually take the job anymore. It sounds like yet another department position has been completely ruined.

Please tell me again how this is the "greatest department in the nation"...I heard that on my first day in the academy. I am beginning to doubt...

They got what they wanted. Out with the old and in with the new. They have demonized the old as too violent, too quick to shoot. Racist!

What they will usher in is a Department too afraid to act. With the Department cheating scandal, whole groups of people that were given the answers, that is a good thing. You're immediate supervisor, the most important in the Department, is not qualified to help you. You will not have the best and the brightest supervisors. You will have the politically correct supervisors so the Progressives can sleep well.

So who suffers here? The average citizen. The good people that work and pay their taxes. The ones that are too old to protect themselves or move. But they are the ones that let this happen. They did not do their homework and vote accordingly. They brought this on themselves and it is being repeated through every urban area in this Country.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. It is overused but oh so true.

Why even have tactical teams. There are 5 teams 50 po's 5 sgt's 2 tact secretaries
dump em all to the watch.

Just make roving saturation teams that respond to needed areas. 019 is a ghost town during the week. The saturation teams can work there on the weekends and stay until 7 am when the robberies are happening since they are on 10 hour days.

90% of 019 district tactical teams are gone by 3 am when the robberies are occurring at 5-6 am they are sleeping

Guess what Mr. Union Rep, the city treats the unions like mushrooms, they keep you in the dark and feed you shit. I recall a Sgt's Union meeting last year where we asked when the Lt's test results would be out. Jim Ade said they spoke to the city the day before and the city told the union it didn't have the results yet and didn't know when to expect them. We got our results two days later. The city withholds information from the unions all the time, as a union rep you should get a better clue who you are dealing with. I would rely more on the information "Manny" at the uniform shop has than anything the union might have.

Bullshit rumor. If you'd like to know when a test is coming pay special attention when people like BERNSTEIN start putting out ads in various mediums ( police magazines, emails etc). Last sgts test was administered in Jan 2014. No test is going to come out until at least another 3-4 yrs. Maybe longer. As far as ive heard all promotional tests are done for awhile. Every testable position has been completed. Dicks test results are the only thing everyone is waiting for to be sent out. New sgts test wont be for awhile. As it stands they are only on # 166 from the list anyway. They end this sgts list somewhere after 425-450 seeing as the DOJ wants increased supervision across the board. The Lt's list will most likely be upwards around 200-225.

How high will they go from the Sgt's test? 450-500?

You wish bubble boy. If your that low on the list, you my friend are on the bubble, and better start studying for the next test. If your at 500 add all the merit and your number is more like 800.

It is true about hiring, a female family friend failed her 1st power test due to having 15 lbs added to her press weight. She complained and told them the weight was wrong to no avail. After over a year the whole group of those who failed were retested, she passes that, the polygraph and she has a final power test v next monrh.

As a woman I'm sickened. Your family friend should have trained to press more than was mandated. To prepare myself twenty plus years ago I trained to pass the power test at what the younger men were required to do. Doing that made it a walk in the park. Not even on the job and already bitching. Imagine twenty years ago working the wagon when we had to move and haul bodies. Just what this job doesn't need, another whiny bitch who make the real women in blue look bad.

The 55 and out isn't "expiring" next year it's only the 0% that's going away.
After June the 55 and out goes from 0% to 2% but the 55 and out provision doesn't completely go away.

H e l l o! We already know that genius.

55 and out, as we knew it, is OVER.

Your two percent will become four percent, then ten percent.
WE TOLD YOU SO when the city was allowed to get their foot in the door and charge 'only two dollars' for health insurance. What does it cost now, hmmm?

55 and out for many years, has meant "AGE 55, free medical til you go on Medicare".
You want to rename it, fine, choose a new name.
But you don't get to REDEFINE it.

Listen, this talk of increased sgts and lts is not true yet!!! I am a rep for the sgts Union. We have been begging for more sgts, the city said its not happening. Plus R and D has nothing to do with promotions. It would be human resources and personnel

They have about 1,000 plus people retiring. They need more bodies now. The people of Chicago are so screwed. The shootings are just the tip of the ice burg. Their is blood on the streets of chicago.

Their is also blood on the Mayor of mismanagement. Good luck keeping people here.

The whole point of the "55 and out" WAS the free (0%) insurance so yes, it IS expiring next year.

What does change, starting 01 JAN 2017, are those who fall in the 50 - 54 category with at least 20 years on. They won't get ANY insurance coverage from the city if they retire. And for those that retired in that category, your coverage ends on 01 JAN 2016.

The only thing left will be if you are 60-65 your insurance coverage is still intact, for now. Once you turn 65 you will be covered by Medicare.

8/27/2016 10:58:00 AM

There are plenty of applicants ready to take this job. But, HR has the same problem every year. Trying to find enough minority applicants to pass the power test and drug test. Otherwise they should raise the percentage of veterans they can hire. Currently the city is hiring around 60 recruits per month, around 480 recruits this year. This is the limit that HR can clear for hiring. They expect to hire about 600 recruits this year. That is the capacity of the academy unless they offer split shifts but overtime if forbidden. 600 recruits will not keep up with retirements, deaths and officers quitting for other agencies. Of course the number of officers stripped is over 30 this year. Despite all of the negativity, there are applicants that seek a job with CPD.

I was #2 in my district when I retired. Absolutely no point in waiting for the #1 spot.
Believe it or not, I was only 58 at the time.
Retire as soon as possible, otherwise, remain FETAL!

Don't forget about the 120 probationial officers that are going to get moved to 016 in the next couple months.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They should be sent to the ghettos of the city where all young officers should be. Put guys with dinosaur time in 016 where they belong. Or some of the kids that have enough time to still be aggressive but have the knowledge of the job to know better and want out of the circus show. Either way you shouldn't hold your breath for those "probational" police officers you quoted.

Putz.
No way, send us some young coppers that can do some police work, maybe stop a car or two or grab one of the thousands of thieves roaming around 16 at night while residents and the dinosaur police are sleeping.I/F

It's not about the bare minimum although that should be the CPD Motto. Recall nearly 30 years ago recruits who would mysteriously pass the obstacle course and range qualification on an early Saturday Morning. They went on tho have illustrious careers as supervisors and a few were command staff. This is where substandard begins and continues all the way to the top

We will be in a full federal consent decree by November. The doj will be in full control of the dept. they have stated that we don't have enough supevision and does want 100 new Lt. Positions and 200 new Sgts. Positions. They do want 3 Lts. Per watch so that they're will always be a Lt. Working. This is fact and has been stated for a while now.

right.

And remember 'some' couldn't pass the written? Remember the groups "well qualified" "qualified" and whatever the the last one was "not qualified?" - you pretty much did not get hired unless you were "well qualified" Now it's what pass/fail - and then a lottery.

They solved that problem didn't they? The typical democratic solution - level downward (because upward leveling is impossible).

You vote democrat you should be deported.

And what with all the fucking bikes in 014 - now I'm a pedestrion, now I'm a car = what is this fucking Bejing?
