Anyone want to explain why the only posted openings for next Police Period were all in 003? Fifteen openings, yet the Department posted a few dozen PPO's coming off of their probation into Area North last month - into spots that in reality, they wouldn't be able to catch a whiff of for five or six years.
They couldn't all be that connected, could they?
Does the Department want to keep all the unhappy, old, grumpy, coppers locked into undesirable spots for some reason? Or is this another ploy by Rahm?

Well the following numbers and info is accurate and fact. PPOS that got off probation got assigned to some of the best, slowest,cleanest and nicest Districts in the City. 6 PPOS were assigned to 016, 6 PPOS were assigned to 017,8 PPOS were assigned to 008, 4 PPOS were assigned to 009, 3 PPOS were assigned to 012, and 7 PPOS were assigned to 025. That's a total of 34 PPOS that got assigned to 008,009,012,016, 017 and 025. This hardly seems fair, Officers that have over 10 years on the job cant even begin to sniff one of these Districts that these PPOS got assigned to. We cant get out of the fucken ghetto and the PPOS get handed a gift of all gifts.

The brass is trying to stop the bleeding caused my mcstreetlights foot patrol disaster. If they send the new cubs to the ghetto they will be working with the generation of cops that mctool fucked up. It's been a dumping ground for the last 21 years that I've been on, and has been that way prior to then as well.
You screwed up in a good spot, you got dumped to 003.
I know of one near north district that received zero PPOs. But the captain and the commander couldn't care less. Do more with less and maybe they won't ruin lives for their own promotions.
North side districts are severely undermanned. Their commanders and aldermen ask for bodies, so they get PPOs and those recently off probation. They do it this way because they can assign then wherever the hell they want without having to worry about seniority or anyone bidding out of less desirable districts. Then they pretend every district is fully staffed except for 003 so they can try to get some bodies there. People will bid for those spots. I'm still not sure how this fake posting of vacancies doesn't violate the contract. There are definitely spots available in many districts other than 003, but the department somehow doesn't have to post them and open them up to bidding. People with enough seniority to get into slower districts are held hostage in the ghetto because the department refuses to post the actual vacancies in each district. It's ridiculous. If there's nothing in the contract preventing this bullshit, maybe the FOP can think about working it into the new contract somewhere.
I think it's good to have ppo head to the north side area to give those districts done new blood. Not only officers wanting to ride out for retirement. Yea. The districts still need about 100 more officers do veterans can go too
Eddie makes sure his community is taken care of but he lied to the faces of citizens on the northwest side when he promised that the 16th district would get more officers at the community meeting he attended.
Rahm has to take care of the North/Westside (the Well-known Westside Pastors and the Westside Aldermen are very vocal and well represented during the city council meetings. You can't even put a commander in their district without their approval.

This has been going on for the past few years now. Nothing new with that. Besides 019 (which is now filled with old timers from 003) no other openings have been posted. We all know that every district has more than 30+ openings city wide....... If we only had a union.

Last night the tactical lt was calling for one of his cars to assist him at 4:45 am on a Friday night and not one car answered up because they all had went home already!
Instead of putting on a show that could get someone hurt, maybe a supervisor could just look at their GPS and discipline as appropriate ??
If things dont change so, I want mass riots over bids...4/5 is Long enough to be in 003/004/006. Send the ppo to the 15 spots in 003...enough is enough, if other departments can move officers around the union needs to classes.

They have been sending PPOs to the north side lately. I heard they want younger cops in the north side to produce activity and they don't want to bring POs with time on the job north to do nothing.
Places like 16 as well as other districts are very short. Sure they will send more ppl to 03 soon but each district should be at full

The Dept is now being run by "merit" bosses that really know nothing but how to Brown nose to another merit spot and kiss the mayor's but to retire to a nice job and pension. Only a small few have any real patrol clue.

It makes perfect sense, keep the most experienced and seasoned officers in the tough districts, down in the Hood. They know those districts and how to survive in them. Put the new rookies in the quite more peaceful districts for five or six years until they get a little seasoning and street wise. Then you can slowly transition them to the tough districts. Just remember, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. You veterans working the ghetto are the CPD elite. Be proud.
To those complaining about staffing in 016, yeah we need more coppers. But what is even more critical is to get working cops. The majority in 016 are militantly lazy and spend more time complaining than they do working. Trying to get them to handle a job appropriately is even a stretch. That is why the savage is hunting in 016, so few real coppers. If you want them see exactly how busy they are do a USM g/016, you'll be surprised how little they do.

You are obviously a civilian and really stupid.A probationary police officer cannot be strung along for 5-6 years and then magically violate a union contract and ship them off to the ghetto.All this is accomplishing is creating hatred for those guys with 7-15 yrs that arent able to be bid anywhere.I'm sure they will be happy and productive coppers with no hopes of transferring closer to home.We might even still have some poor bastards from TRU and MSF still stuck down south.

Commanders have been bitching for years in the forementioned districts about how they never get young officers. The problem is that the older officers already in those districts, by and large, aren't doing anything. The department gets to decide where PPO's are assigned, contrary to what some people here are saying. Seniority does not come into play whatsoever on initial assignment of PPO's. Past practice has been to dump them into 007, 015, 006, etc...but that is changing. They won't all go to sleeper districts, but they also all will not go to the ghetto districts either anymore.

its always been up to the department where ppo s get sent. DONT KNOW WHAT U CAN GRIEVE.Same thing when they are given their 1st furloughs. Some get better then people who have more time.
...makes sense to me. Let the PPOs clear probation before you send them to work the shit districts. Let them learn a thing or two before they go shooting down the street at moving vehicles.

Okay dumb nuts as someone who has served some time in 003 how exactly is the lakefront and golf course relevant when I'm running around like a chicken without a head from domestic to domestic to person with a gun...yeah stfu you obviously haven't served time in 003.

Read some of the comments in previous blog entries about 003. Everything sucks. The starting times the bosses are "just visiting" they have no investment in the district no investment in looking out for the coppers. Officers are essentially being held hostage to the district. 003 is a revolving door for bosses.

Around the turn of the century, some new guys got assigned to nice districts out of the academy. There were lots of recruits and lots of police in nice districts. You could get afternoons with 5 or 6 years on the job, days in 10 or 12. They stopped sending recruits, the only openings were on bid and they never replaced the number that left. Now, you need 20 years for days, 15 for afternoons and quite a bit of seniority to bid in. Not sure what the average age of the officers are, but I bet it's over 40. We have the same "new" guys that were here 6 years ago and now they have 10 years on the job and are sent reverse seniority for every detail that comes out.
And the start times will continue to suck in 003. Appears that damn squad program isn't going away. What a joke this place is.
If U have less than 5-10 years on the job, quit and look for a better job. Unless you cant imagine yourself doing anything else. And I bet there aren't many of those. If U stay, then U are gonna have to suck it up. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Maybe if those old time coppers would do anything, IJS. I live north. I'd rather have these hungry young bucks running around getting activity in my area then these sleepy fuckers.
