More Cameras

Remember, you're always on camera somewhere:
  • Dear SCC,

I am informing you that a Department of Revenue ticketer came in my Northside neighborhood and as we spoke he stated he was equipped with a small covert body camera which he showed me. To this individuals credit he thought it was BS and wrong for him to do that. He stated that they have been instructed to activate this device if a city worker tries to get out of a ticket, argues or intimidates them. Look like the good old City of Chicago is trying jam even more coppers and city workers!
Nice how the sole instruction is to activate the camera "if a city worker tries to get out of a ticket, argues or intimidates them." Not other citizens who can't be suspended or fired, thereby saving Rahm pension money. Just city workers.

Do yourself a favor and park legally. Because the first one caught be these cameras is almost certainly going to be a copper parked by Traffic Court or at a bar or somewhere just "for a second" and the parking vultures are going to swoop in and the copper will be on the news and in front of the Board on some easily avoidable Rule violation.

Sorry, but we're cynical nowadays.

I agree. I can't stand when coppers get into with dept of revenue people. Listen, have all your stuff together and park legally. It's like the little midget Sgt on the west end of 008 who works in 018 now who got beat up by a dept of rev guy then had him locked up. Little hardos like him think they are above the law. Listen, to all of you morons just park legally

It is important to save the city from having to pay all that expensive pension money. Of course the chosen will all get their retirement goodies.

Hmmm.... I'm cynical too.

If they are out to screw YOU, they are out to screw "the Common man" as well.

Screw coming downtown for ANY event or shopping. I don't feel like "getting jammed" either, for just "driving through".

This "Sheriff of Nottingham" approach of shaking down people for money because the political structure is short of money does NOT work.

CUT spending. CUT the size of the City Council in half.

Do yourself a favor and park legally. Because you're sworn to uphold the law.

All the more reason to go to the suburbs with those nice parking lots that are free of the thieving city ticket writers giving out $100 donations to this crooked city! There is a reason there are a lot of empty store fronts in once bustling business districts in this crooked city! It takes a lot for me to look for street parking to go to those business, these days! It's cheaper all around with deals and lower taxea, to go shop in outer malls and bring it back to the city! Than to spend my money in this crooked city with all the gotcha cameras everywhere!

This is just now thread worthy?

I will note that as we are all aware, City Employees are their own worst enemy.

The number of times I've been asked "Do you know who I am" in various different ways is almost impossible to count.

And for point of Fact. It is not to jam up Cops. It is to defuse the encounter with some hothead that has any type of City Job that thinks their shit doesn't stink.

1.) I only park in my garage.

2.) I only go places (usually in the burbs, and good burbs at that) that have parking lots.

I only spend time here making money and enjoying the lower property taxes.

Start recording them as they walk and look into cars. Its known that most of them get a hourly wage and no benefits. I have arrested a few while they were committing crimes and they told me they work for the city. When asked to produce a city ID or identify the agency they rattle off some private company. I ell them nice try and walk them off to the lockup.

Make sure your car is locked and don't leave any valuables in plain sight. If you park in front of your house invest in a surveillance camera system. You will be surprised what criminals these individuals are. I would like to see their cell phone records while they are out writing tickets. Who ware they calling while they work? What are their criminal histories? What gang ties do they have?

20 months to go and I will be publishing a book on all of rahms/city corruption.

This happened to an officer in 014 1st watch. He showed his star and the department of revenue agent told him the truth and said that they have body cameras and on this particular day he does not have it but his partner does. His partner was in the car. The department of revenue agent was not a jag off but told the odpo to share with others that the city wants to fuck with police officers and jam them up. Guys spread the word, if an agent gives you a ticket, then just take it and either pay it or dispute it. This is the new reality.

I was met by several nice people who walked me through the process. I was finished in 5 minutes. I walked back out to my car and observed a Tucson police officer helping an elderly man change a flat tire on his car. -----------------

I'm going to address this part of the comment if you don't mind SCC.

First off, Department of Finance PEA' wear a uniform and have a City ID and City Badge (not that the badge really means much.). We also, 90% of the time, wear a bright damn yellow safety vest that says "Department of Finance" on the Rear. We are City Employees, Union members, career service, the whole Nine Yards.

The private company people are Ser Co contractors. I consider them to be scabs hired by the city so they can minimize OT or CU time for the PEA's. They have no benefits, no union And have a quota. Ser Co also will hire anyone that can manage to pass a basic background check and drug screen at the time of hire. So, no active parole or probation and just like TMA, they will hire anyone.

On a personal note: if I get stopped by a squad because some jagbag called 9-1-1 on me and I'm in Full Damn uniform, well FOIA for the info on the person that called it in is going to happen so I can file Harassment Charges.

I don't believe in abusing 9-1-1 for shit that is 19P.

The only exceptions are special clouted folk, and that video would just disappear. They prefer to work behind the scenes anyway. Why make a big show in front of the schmuck who doesn't know you're clouted? Nope that just leaves a few bad, deluded coppers who would want to show their badge and try to lean on them. And wouldn't you want those idiots found out? What other problems are those types causing you?

This is a tad long, SCC. Hope you don't mind.

In all honesty, I personally haven't been scheduled to work south of Roosevelt in over 4 years since the department re-mapped our particular beat system. But, I've worked 009, 010, 011, 012, 013 & 025 in addition to 001, 014, 018, 019, 020, 016, 017, 023, 024. And yes, I know a couple of those districts are now merged but I can't recall off the top of my head. As for the districts you mentioned, I've not worked them personally. But yes, our staff is tasked with going to every ward in the city at least once a day.

A point if I may...

Aside from our Foot Patrol and Bike Patrol PEAs, we don't get to "check out a squad" to drive around all shift and look for what we can find. That means utilizing CTA to get to/from our particular area of op for the shift. Certain areas of 016 and 017 will very rarely see one of my co-workers on foot, but a bike patrol will get sent up to those large footprint beats. For example, the 41st Ward is almost all 1 person per week when we get someone up there. It's the same for our beat that goes from North Ave to Lawrence and Narragansett to East River Rd. You cops are, by your own admission, short staffed. As such you guys and gals have better things to do or more important jobs to worry about than Street Cleaning or Residential Permit Parking or illegal Nebraska In Transit permits or photocopied Wisconsin or Indiana Temp plates, or some local operating a dealership out of his house with Washington State or Wisconsin State Dealer plates in 024 or 025 or 017. And everyone here knows exactly WHY the city increased the enforcement abilities of the Parking Enforcement staff. And I truly do understand your morale issues.

I get that 95% of the time no one likes the department division I work for. I'm no naive. We do, on occasion get actual thank you'd from citizens for checking the permit street they live on or enforcing the street cleaning parking ban because certain people Never move, or it's an area that gets high non-resident commuter vehicles parking so they can CTA or Metra into the city to work.

As for the rest of the comments in this thread, please remember that the Coty contacts out to Ser Co for the evening and overnight and weekend enforcement for the same violations that PEAs are authorized to issue, and that the meter lease hacks have their own enforcement staff that only can issue meter tickets.

I do truly respect and admire all those that work as police officers. All I ask for is Golden Rule treatment when I'm working.

Stay Safe and Go home alive.

I live in one of those permit parking, high-commuter violator neighborhoods. I ALWAYS thank you guys. And every time I do, you all give me a shocked look, which tells me you get a world of grief from most everyone you deal with. My view, it's a job. Kind of like when people hate on the police for writing that mover after the accident or doing that licensed premise check. We don't have much choice. It's our job.

Dept of Revenue employees are violating state law if they do not disclose to citizens during any encounter that they are recording at the beginning of the interaction. The surreptitious recording of individuals is still illegal in this state. This is why officers are required to give notice when they are recording whether arrestee, witness, anyone in the vicinity bc in IL people have the right to know when they are being audio/video recorded. So I hope Dept of Revenue is not asking their employees to covertly record people...

It is best to head for the suburbs or Indiana and those big parking lots and give this crooked city, no sales tax revenues or fines and gotcha fees!

Once retired move to another State!

States with low taxes and no income taxes on pension money. Nevada, Florida, Texas, Tennessee. Overall better states financially, when compared to Illinois! Illinois and Chicago keep raising taxes on everything!

Illinois will tax your pension very soon! You heard it here first!

In all those states, the weather is also better than Chicago when you compare the 12 months!
