Body Camera Lawsuit

  • Ten police officers in a Chicago suburb are suing the town, claiming the body cameras they wore never turned off and recorded them using the restroom and changing clothes.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in federal court says one of the officers in Round Lake Park, Dominick Izzo, discovered the problem while reviewing video from his camera in May.
This after someone discovered the "off" button wasn't actually turning the cameras off. The Department claimed it was a technology issue, the manufacturer claimed the Department asked for the feature so officers couldn't sabotage cameras. A major privacy issue.

Make sure you're paying attention when these things go on.

Sitting here in front of my computer at 0130 I have a piece of tape over the camera of my laptop. I have heard that it is possible for a hacker to send malware and spy on people as they sit in front of their computer.

These officers might try a piece of ape. Crude but highly effective.

And the new policy will be....The camera is on all the time, tough shit for you. Put that bastard in the car when you go to lunch and the john. Fuck these people, everyone has privacy EXCEPT the police? Politicians are the first that should be forced to wear these. Their corrupt shenanigans would make the country vomit, and then they'd throw the bums out. that is except the democrats, they'd say, they all do it so what's the difference?

Or, just cover the things up with something during those private and delicate moments.

Want to be the camera company has the facts, letters and email to back up their assertions?

Someone thought they would avoid the potential problem of a camera that was turned off.
They forgot people want privacy when they poop.

I wonder what the female officers are saying?

Take camera off, leave in locker while handling "personal business." Reattach when the personal business has been concluded (dressing, undressing, restroom functions, personal phone calls/reviewing texts, personal e-mails, etc.) Case closed!

Already have the draft ready with my attorney. Pretty much generic. Just need to fill in dates, times, model #s, etc...

This should be a small bonanza.

The chief up there is a real piece of work!when attending a training class at his station I was advised by his officers to watch what I say it was known the chief had the room bugged!it was related that if it was not for a former undersheriff he would still be a dispatcher for Deerfield P.D

There's no doubt that something like this will be a real possibility for us once the body cameras start rolling out in significant numbers.
Whenever you're on a personal, lunch, bathroom break etc. you should put a cap over the lens.

Obviously our cameras r doing the same thing. During the training video it said that the camera will bring up 30 seconds of a recording prior to turning the thing on. Just like the in car camera. So if th at is gappening then its recording all the time. Lets say u piss in a restaurant at lunch. While u exit the restaurant you have to take police action. If uou activate the camera inmediately then the prior 30 secods when it wasnt on is gonna be video of you pissing.

Police Chief George Filenko said he was unaware of the recordings until an officer discovered them and has hired an outside attorney to investigate. But in a statement Filenko also criticized the officers for filing the lawsuit.
"The police officers who filed the lawsuit against the village made a quick rush to judgment, without considering all of the facts," the statement read
*********************************************************************************************
Open statement to Chief Filenko: LMAO on quick rush to judgement? Seriously? This coming from a police chief who is probably first to yank a copper off the street and throw him behind a desk? LOL please. MGMT loves to rush to judgement, the public loves to rush to judgement but you "accidentally" record coppers cocks and balls and all they get is a "Oh, my bad." GTF out of here dude. Pay up and avoid a lengthy lawsuit for your screw up. Don't tell me you didn't do a "test pilot" program first and review the procedures of the video cameras prior to putting them on officers. Even CPD, dumb as the MGMT can be, at least does a "test pilot" with everything.

Case not closed. You see, unlike you, I am a field cop. I don't work indoors like you and therefore I dont always have access to my locker or dont always take care of personal business in the station. And despite what some people may think, we are citizens of this country too and should be afforded the same basic rights to privacy when it comes to personal business.

The chief is the leader of the Glinewitz cover up. The same guy that was afraid to admit he "rushed to judgement" after every law enforcement person on scene knew that there was no foul play. This ultimately cost him his position as head of their task force. He was a dispatcher with no police experience, just a heavy phone call. Izzo is or was a part time PO and a full time bartender, who could not make it on any other PD. He is a little guy with a napoleon complex, must have found 3 other guys between 5' and 5'7" for the video. Hilarious! Seems like they need to look at their hiring processes. I say you want transparency, start at the top. Transparency should start where the process starts. The root of the problem. All public officials. If you really want transparency, then if you are paid with tax payer dollars, you should wear a body cam. You hear that governor, senator, mayor, aldercreatures, Chiefs, 1st deputys, sheriff. That would be transparency!

Carry a role of electrical tape with you (black) and cover up the camera lens during those private moments, but before you flush, take off tape and turn it back on and show the turds flushing down the drain and say Look Sarge, this reminds me of this city !!

O/T: I see the sun times shooter tracker is working overtime to keep up with the domestic terrorist residents in Chicago. The list is growing by the hour !!

Keep up the great work gangbangers! You're doing the coppers jobs for FREE !!!

Thinning the "turd" herd yourselves, what more could the coppers ask for ?

Enjoy your lunches, coppers, the gangbangers have your jobs covered for all of you :)

So nice when they become productive citizens of the city, and do it for free, too !!

This is when I DO love DIE-versity! Keep thinning that turd herd... Job well done !!

07:07 Hrs. - Spot on with the Lake County connection. That particular UnderSheriff, Gary Stryker, later resigned after it was revealed that he was being reimbursed for questionable expenditures such as training seminars. Problem was that the County official responsible for approving the expense account was also brought along to the seminars as Stryker's "desk dolly" while he was still married. This was part of a "reform" administration of Gary Del Re. The Lake County voters recognized the problem and voted Del Re out of office. Wish that would happen in Cook County - but we keep rewarding thievery by re-electing the clowns. Filenko was also made head of the Major Crimes Task
Force which has its own troubled history of false prosecutions.
Thievery & Incompetence seem to be the the Bain of law enforcement executives regardless of jurisdiction.

Our body cameras have a 30 second buffer, like our in car cameras. But unlike our in car cameras they don't record more. They constantly record over that 30 seconds. The in car cameras on the other hand, record all day, but don't normally upload everything unless it's tagged as an event.

What facts didn't they consider chief?
They were always being recorded, like always as in it never shut off.
Officers were filmed using the bathroom, changing and God knows what else.
Hey Chief: go fuck yourself..... I'm sure if it was you being secretly recorded in situations where it's illegal to record you'd be singing a different tune.

I'm predicting that come Monday the totals for the weekend will be 8-9 killed and about 50 hit.
There are city's that don't experience those totals in a year. In Chiraq it's just your average summer weekend.

Guess what, asshat? I'm a field cop too. And I usually take care of 'personal business' in the station. It's called a personal. If you absolutely positively cannot make it into the station, asshat, then just leave the body cam in the trunk/hatch of your squad, and then go take care of your personal business. I would never sit on the throne or take piss while wearing a camera attached to my body, whether or not I have a switch to shut it off, but that's just me, Francis.

Find a better way. Sure you can tape over a lens or stuff the thing in a locker but what's your responsibility? If we tamper, disable or alter our recording devices it's a offense punishable by dismissal. Sure the union can fight the charges, but you will sit without pay or benifits while it is argued. What's your liability? Know before you go......stay safe.

Dominic izzo is a total knob... Just look at this boners Facebook page. He thinks he is the end all be all of police. He posts all this stuff about how he is the real deal and always critiquing cpd bosses and he works in a town of about 5000 people. Look at the crime stats of the suburb he works in... I'm not saying people from cpd are any better than him because we all do the same job but it must be realized that I'm many parts of the city it is a whole different world than round lake park. But if you ask Dominic he's working on the west side every day. His Facebook page is absolutely embarrassing.

Channel 7 News is all too happy to show video of cops in physical altercations with offenders and run those clips every chance they get with the officer's face in full view.

But the other day it had a story where a woman videographer doing a professional shoot downtown is knocked to the ground and the offenders get away with her $2500 camera. Channel 7 Eyewitness News has a photo of the victim and one of the offenders is seen coming up from behind her...WITH HIS FACE BLURRED.

Channel 7's talking head explained the face was blurred because the individual was not charged yet. Thanks for the help in fighting crime you idiots.

I think this could be fun. Remember the press conference scene from the first Naked Gun movie? Where Drebin's wireless mike was broadcasting when he made a pit stop? There must be a way to wirelessly stream video from these cameras to a monitor during a highly publicized event at City Hall. Not that I'm suggesting anything . . .

If you're "a field cop too" (though I believe you're a detective), then how come you can't figure out how to visually divide your posts from the one you've copied and pasted, so we clearly know where your rant begins and the other poster's rant ends? Could you just try to do that ONE SIMPLE THING? Or are you deliberately trying to be 'different'? Stop eliminating the date and time of the original post and then we'll all know where YOU start and the OTHER guy's post ends.

Went to one of Loyola's "Urgent Care Centers" and the computer monitor sitting on the front counter (screen away from you) had a little camera in the center top edge, a foot from my face. Go in there to ask about a medical problem and I'm sure it's recording away for some sort of perceived purpose. Just crazy.

Only going to get worse -- they have developed a new lens that's only twice the diameter of a human hair.
