Bad Luck....Or Good Luck

Don't play the lottery Officer - you've used up a lot of luck:
  • A suspect fleeing police tried to throw his gun onto a roof, but it hit a wall instead and went off, hitting an officer in the shoulder, prosecutors said Thursday.

The officer's partner kept chasing Rafael Martir-Ubiles, 25, Monday afternoon and cornered him in a gangway in the 2300 block of South Trumbull Avenue, where the officer used a Taser twice to subdue him, prosecutors said.

Martir-Ubiles appeared in court Thursday, charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated assault of a police officer, resisting an officer and unlawful possession of firearm by a gang member, police said.

Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered him held without bail.
Thank you for the no-bail Judge. It's greatly appreciated.

And now we can see where a taser would be appropriate if the partner saw the gun being tossed.

But how much freaky bad luck is that? Dude half-ass pitches a gun and you still get shot? Thank the Fates, Lady Luck, Dame Fortune, whoever, that a cheap pistol didn't end up costing us an Officer's limb or life. Speedy recovery Officer.

And to think people say "Drop the gun" never thinking that a dropped firearm on a hard surface might actually discharge. It happened in this instance. And even if the firearm is manufactured with a drop safety feature, there is a possibility that when dropped the firearm may still discharge. Be careful out there.

Just think: if the gun had gone off and hit the offender in the back of his own head - and killed him - everyone would accuse the cop of shooting him. NOBODY would believe "it just went off by itself when it hit the wall". This is why I don't do a lot of aggressive police work anymore. I don't trust our courts, the media, the department, or Rahm. But mostly it's because I don't trust Rahm. He'll throw you under the bus in a heartbeat. And people wonder why crime is getting so bad.
Go Chicago!

As more of the lost souls realize they will be able to move about with multiple weapons without challenge due to the alphabet (ISR, ACLU, DOJ...) guides, a similar result may not in the cards.

Bill O"Reilly had a liberal from San Franciso on The O'Reilly Factor this week and they discussed the surging homeless population and crime in San Francisco. I didn't see many homeless in either city, San Diego or San Francisco when I visited there years ago. The soft on crime liberal didn't see a correlation between the increase in crime and homeless population naturally. It was reported that San Francisco is short of police officers as well.
