Bullshit Survey

Talk about your agenda-driven writing, this "survey" is a prime example:
  • A Tribune poll released Wednesday shows that Chicago has a terrible problem with police-citizen relations: Most Chicagoans — 70 percent of all respondents — said they don't believe police officers treat all citizens fairly. Nearly as many — 64 percent — said cover-ups and a code of silence in the Chicago Police Department are widespread problems.
Really? And how many of these respondents have actually had contact with the police recently? We'd hate to assume that they're making this sort of judgement based solely on the media coverage these past few months.
  • The MacDonald video - the move to "suppress" it until after an election - that choice wasn't made by anyone in the Department not wearing a gold star;
  • The lack of audio is a direct result of shitty equipment with zero maintenance performed by ill-equipped staff due to the city going with a low-bid. Not a single decision there was made by anyone in the Department below the rank of Deputy;
  • The December shooting of an assailant with a bat that resulted in the tragic death of an innocent is something every cop we've spoken with regrets immensely. Every single officer hopes it never happens to us. But it was by all accounts an accident. That isn't the fault of thousands of coppers who do a great job day-in-and-day-out;
  • Koschman wasn't perpetrated by anyone driving a patrol car or working in a District or even working in Patrol. That was a political decision made by political people. You think it's a coincidence that multiple merit promotees left before being fired? That a clouted lieutenant who beat a sex abuse case out-of-state was in a position to make decisions driving the entire investigation and in fact, removed files from the Area so they couldn't be found for months?
  • The decades worth of decisions to "settle at any cost" instead of fighting cases in court where evidence could be presented not only justifying, but clearing false accusations against officers wasn't made at the levels we work. J-Fled (of all people) proved you can put plaintiff attorneys in a financial bind by fighting the nonsense cases and putting scumbags on notice that the City will come after them for costs when they lose. Rahm wasted no time in returning to the days of "settle everything." Otherwise he wouldn't get all those political contributions spread throughout the Machine.
Did the Tribune perchance show any of the survey respondents this graphic?

Or mentioned the fact that of the 2,995 people catching bullets in Chicago last year, only 25 were shot by the police, which works out to eighty-three-point-five hundredths of a percent - not even one-full-percent.

But police are the problem and not the political structure they work under? We think the Tribune is asking the wrong questions, but if Rahm tells them he needs cover in order to "govern," well, we guess the Tribune is going to ask "How High Mr. Mayor?"

Rahm is 100% the blame.

It all falls on his watch.
He didn't release the tape and had the office on the desk, so he could sweep it under the rug and get reelected.
He didn't do anything with the cover up with Daily, because he is friends with Daily and half the officers were gold stars and the other half are friends of gold stars, a bunch of merit hacks.
The public looks at all this and sees it as we are all corrupt.
Rahm agreed with the ACLU and this was Rahm's agreement, the ACLU didn't make up this form set. It was a joint effort.
Rahm was on vacation and just wanted to know the media's reaction.
Rahm, Rahm, Rahm

I could just keep going on with this. But it's obvious Rahm has us in this mess!

SCC, I normally agree with most of the things you write and this is a great forum to find out what's going on in this department. What is REALLY going on in this department.

With this particular post, I agree with most of what you say except for the problems with the audio. Sure, some break and the department takes months or never to even fix it. However, I have found most coppers are to blame for the lack of audio. The purposely put the mic's in the trunk, in the glove compartment, take the batteries out or outright destroy them. They don't go missing from the vehicles by themselves. They didn't all end up on the roof of the 16th district by accident.

Everything else on this post I agree on, but the audio part is just something coppers do thinking they are protecting themselves. We can be our own worst enemy. I actually use the car camera's to my benefit and have had many frustrations finding a car with a working mic or even having a mic. The video's itself is another topic for another day.

I think you hit it on the head. We do not differentiate between your corrupt city government and police leadership; and police officers on the street. You are all one big wall of blue to us on the outside.

Please start fighting back. Show us you want a professional police department.
Get the FOP to call out the corrupt leaders.
If the video or audio is not working, down the car. Make your supervisor order you to use a substandard car.

You can make a poll say anything you want. The problem citizens now have is the loss of caring for the very people the police serve every day. Cops can do the very minimum or go out every day giving 100% serving the people of this city. The Thug politicians and reverends have just about destroyed the trust and respect that police and citizens once had for each other. Chicago is finished. This will become a lawless town that will see good honest citizens fleeing city. We are fast becoming Detroit.

In the end, blaming the police will not help Rahm. It will only lower morale and drive passive behavior on the part of officers since they don't want to be hung out to dry for doing their jobs. Shootings and killings will skyrocket and people will really revolt (not just a few paid BLM astroturf protesters).

If a neighborhood thinks racist police are the problem, they should be given to choices:
1) pull all of the police out of their neighborhood.
2) assign police to the neighborhood that match the racial makeup of the neighborhood. if not enough police are available, then deputize a concerned citizen.

Geez, what else can anyone say to your rebuttal? The nature of the survey and therefore the results simply violate most standards intregral to achieving a fact based result. Anyone should trust a Tribune survey? The result; a stupid survey put together by stupid, purported journalists again makes the New Chicago Tribune look something more like fish wrap than the Pulitzer winner of the olden days. I especially chuckle when their editorial staff bemoans people who generalize about racial issues for their racisim to the point that the new Trib does not often mention the race of suspects in articles. However they will cast a broad shadow of generalization of the police or other groups when it suits their agenda to make a point they want accepted by readers. They are indeed ignorant hypocrits.

SCC, you do an invaluable service to the working men and women of this department by not only posting excellent commentaries such as this, but giving us a forum for our own ideas and experiences.

Your analysis of current events is always dead on target, you respond with facts and logic to media misinformation concerning the job we do, and you shine a light onto the shameless corruption of the political machine of this city that costs tax payers in so many ways, from having incompetent or flat out criminal bosses in all departments to hiring practices, settlements, laws, etc.

The street officers of Chicago owe you a debt for being our advocate. But I'm sure your blog continues to be a thorn in the side of the higher ranks of CPD, who are nothing more or less than of the same political class as the aldermen, judges, and bosses in other city departments. We salute you.

How about this survey----we were told in the squad policing districts that the department has an e-learning survey as to whether we like the squad policing or do not. This can be found on e-learning and all questionnaires are confidential. WTF is this BULLSHIT! They didn't ask us about squad policing when we were made to take it on, actually it screwed up our furloughs and the holidays at the end of the year till a lot of people beefed to the union. Also our union never came out to the masses to notify the members that we were going to be involved and that this was in the works. So why now is the department so concerned now? They don't give a rats ass what happens and our input falls on deaf ears! Again we will be fucked because 2016 furloughs have been picked, we lost a partner on a 3 man car and will have to again go back to that system along with repacking D.O.G.'s.....This place is ass backwards...

Anyone who thinks Rahm is going to leave is sadly mistaken. His boss is in his farewell tour and has stated that he plans to do as much as possible to further his "Fundamental Transformation of America" in the final 12 months of his reign. BO needs Rahm and all the other obedient progressive mayors of democrat-controlled cities to remain in place stirring up the populace by whatever means necessary. And that would include the the totally complicit media, both print and electronic, to come up with bullshit surveys like this. The respondents are basing their opinions on what they see in the paper and on television every day. Not on personal experience.

Remember in 2008 that BO stated that he wanted a domestic police force as well armed, well funded and well trained as the military? Remember when certain rifles were extremely scarce because the manufacturers were running triple shifts to fill massive orders for the federal government? And remember when certain calibers of ammo were unavailable? The media blamed it on the paranoid public, but on the next page of their rag they reported that the government had place orders for hundreds of millions of rounds for use for practice by domestic federal law enforcement? Agencies like the Treasury, Homeland Security, Postal Inspectors and TSA? I think BO has his well-armed domestic police force in place now and is just waiting to for some sign of insurrection to order them into action. And in what better place than his adopted home town?

The collection of thugs that the aclu is determined to protect can see what is happening. Enforcement is way down and they are becoming more emboldened. As the weather warms up, their forays will extend farther out into the suburbs and north into the city's tony areas. Wildings, daylight muggings and shootings and drive-bys along the mag mile and maybe some home invasions in the high rises along the Drive might serve to motivate the liberal majority to fight back. Maybe not. They might just opt to increase the stipend for not committing crimes.

This is going to be one hell of a summer! Stay safe!

County commissioner wants Rauner to declare state of emergency in violent neighborhoods
Feb 04 2016

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - There are new calls for Governor Bruce Rauner to declare a state of emergency in Chicago's most violent neighborhoods.

With shootings and murders at a 16-year high, at least one elected leader is saying it's time for the Governor to call in other services to come in and help Chicago's communities.

According to recent statistics, 51 people were murdered across the city in January alone, and another 292 people were shot.

Cook County Board Commissioner Richard Boykin is leading the charge.

Count me part of the 64% who do think there is a code of silence and that it is a problem. I am retired CFD (fireman not medic) and responded many times to shootings, car wrecks, and the like and 98% of the time CPD was on the scene you guys were great- and showed A LOT of restraint in dealing with the usual idiots. But what about that 2% of CPD who showed up and acted completely unprofessionally by stirring up the anthill, etc. (I'll spare you the anecdote about how I almost got killed) instead of taking control of a scene and calming the waters as you're supposed to do? This 2% feels free to display such psychotic behavior 'cause they know their co-workers won't do the right thing when it comes to disciplining these few problem children. I've got my off-duty anecdote, too, but will spare you that one as well.

Look at the "outcry" over the "high percentage" of complaints against POs cleared by IPRA. Of course a "high" percentage of ALL complaints are cleared- most ALL of them are total BS. But what about Patrolman Normal who gets fifty complaints in twenty years and Patrolman Head Case who works the same district and gets three hundred in the same tour? You know who they are and they are mucking it up for all POs and YOU LET THEM.

The leftists are embedded in all areas of our society. The majority of citizens voted for politicians they thought would reverse the march towards socialism only to end up being betrayed, as these politicians campaigned as conservatives, but they were misrepresenting their true positions on issues. Soap box and ballot box are not working anymore.

Yeah right like the fire department doesn't a code of silence, what about your drunken supervisors who come on the scene reeking of booze along with fellow firemen(I had to save one of your LT from falling in a sink hole because he was too drunk to stand). Don't throw stones at a glass house because firemen as far from being saints and you couldn't handle our job because we have to deal with the asshole public and you don't.

_______________

I'm not going to suggest that there aren't issues with discipline within the police department, but as a retired fireman, you have no room to talk. I can recall an out of control firehouse party where the head of CFD IAD ignored the issue and attempted to avoid looking into the situation at all. What about the fire bosses that punched the police officers during a marine rescue a few years ago? Let me guess, none of the fireman saw it.

And as any police officer can tell you, when a fire rig pulls up on an EMS call, it's one guy assisting, and everyone else standing around. You know when I don't see fireman just standing around? It's when it's a DOA at a Gold Coast residence. Fireman are so happy to help you look for identification and prescriptions in any and every drawer and cabinet in the residence. I wonder why that is, and what they're really looking for before I throw their asses out? Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Fuck You...

Here's my survey:
1) What race treats the police fairly upon arrival?
2) What race wants the police to control their child?
3) What race keeps their mouths shut even though they witnessed a crime?
4) What race doesn't show equal respect to police that they demand?
5) What race immediately looks as their shot child as a law-suit?
6) What race needs marijuana decriminalized so they have a chance at a job?
7) What race never barks about same race shootings, but police shootings are unacceptable?
8) What race refuses to open businesses in their crime ridden neighborhoods to further
economic gain?
9) What race is entitled to free housing, food, medicine, and uses public schools as free
baby-sitters?
10)What race is offended by everything except for what they have bestowed upon society?
Answer what you like, it doesn't matter because this will offend someone and will be called a racist poll. The problem is perception and reality in this case is very close to being the same.

The problem is a lot of these morons that get high CR numbers also get a lot of activity or are clouted up. Precedence is everything. The CPD let so many "STARS" and "CLOUTED" off the hook for years that even at hearings the ruling is always done with precedence. I am CPD, we all have a bad day and make poor judgments at times, but as you stated, there is a handful of regular morons (bad-apples) that keep doing the same thing over and over without any punishment.

WBBM radio, while "reporting" on the Alvarez part of the never ending story about officer Van Dyke and knife wielding laquan, referred to laquan as the "MURDERED" person.

Unbelievable!

Then, in an ironic twist or connection of sorts to that story, the story of SIX people reported to have been murdered with a KNIFE is now unfolding. People get killed by knives? I thought that guns do all the killings and that knives are not that much of a threat. SIX killed with a knife! Imagine that!

There is the sa*/me percentage of idiots in every profession: doctors, teachers, priests, nuns and even America's heroes - the fireman. I've got stories, but like you, I won't get into them. By the way, Mr. I Just Gotta Open My Yap, I've never gone to a fireman's blog and offered my two cents because I don't know enough about you guys to offer a valid and informed opinion. The difference between you and me is that I know it.

We try to get rid of our mopes, believe me we do. Unfortunately for all of us, and thankfully for all of us too, there is due process. It isn't always justice, but it keeps things fair for most. What 'should be' is usually tough to prove, not a lot of citizens are willing to co-operate, trying to be the good guy doesn't make you popular and the politicians often have a say in it and you future to boot. Take it from someone who knows.

Does state of emergency mean lets throw coppers in jail an ask why the city is plagued with so much violence, you can't have it both ways. People who are willing to help stop the violence and a wave of crime are all being scrutinized and thrown under the bus and going to prison thanks to backing up youth violence and all its criminal activity, sure we have had a few bad apples however it doesn't come anywhere close to the real problems....DOJ should be investigating why so many youths and repeated violent offenders were out and about committing criminal activity not once, twice, three times, no but over and over of piles of complaints against them and no prosecution...you blame the police for all the wrong doings well then you need to start of by going after the parents, the justice system, crooked lawyers and judges and so one in this broken system, stop making the police the monsters of society when in fact they have to pick up after the pieces of garbage trails all of you have not held them accountable for their wrong doings since the beginning. Throwing coppers in jail is not the solution, you need to call it for what it is and it stems from home on all these gang banging families that continue to plague a culture of violence in their homes and their communities. This is gonna be going to get worst if you continue this cycle, and it will spread more and more to the outter limits of the city boundaries until its to late and you have a third world culture of epidemic violence on your hands!!!

There is one bright spot to consider. It doesn't help with the present situation but all newspapers, Chicago Tribune, LA Times, New York Times, San Fransisco Chronicle, Washington Post, Boston Herald, are all dead men walking, all are in a downward spiral of dropping readership, and loss of advertising revenue They are fading away. When reader can easily check up on the facts on the internet, and understand what is really happening in the blogosphere they realize a modern newspapers' reporting is very short on facts. The fundamental problem with newspapers these days is editorial content has left the editorial pages and has infested what is supposed to be the straight news portions of the newspaper. These wastes of plant fiber sold what little remained of any credibility they had when they championed the election of Sir Sparkelfarts to the White House his only qualification, he was black. They where only interested in the historical significant of a black president. Compounding things when they covered for him. The only thing a newspaper is good for now is starting the charcoal on a grill, lining a bird cage, or paper training a puppy dog.

This statement below is correct. Unfortunately the police department is defined by the men and women "on the street" along with the "gold star " command and the political meddlers. Thats the same in every police department nationwide. The media portrayal of the department is also a factor. Department should be managing the media.

Why do us citizens think this way?

Yeah, they will send the Clipboard Ladies around to deliver bags of ice and cheap 20" box fans. Middle of the winter, sure, but it's all they know how to do. That, and CFD will bring a smoke detector that will never be removed from its heavy plastic bubble-pack.

**laughs and cries simultaneously**

I know. We really should close the beaches.

Count me part of the 64% who do think there is a code of silence and that it is a problem. I am retired CFD (fireman not medic) and responded many times to shootings, car wrecks, and the like and 98% of the time CPD was on the scene
***************
You did mention that you are retired. Why don't you go live with the 64% and leave us alone. Things change, they change ALL the time. Coppers that stir up the crowd are isolated by their co-workers because they make our job harder now. Do I have to mention how a handful of you guys stuffed your boots with valuables on your jobs, years ago? You firemen are not saints either. Look in the mirror, hero.

Code of silence????? Where the hell have you been? They suspend, fire and incarcerate some cops for not answering questions now. Do you REALLY think that a cop will face JAIL TIME for a co-worker? If you do, you are as stupid as the 64% you are part of.

What about the drunken on and off duty CFD ( fire fighters) who are a little tipsy and sometimes driving or in other ways acting the fool?

Before you start talking about how my back yard could use a little sprucing up, yours better look like Sparkle Town

Just saying

Read our published works - we hammered the shit out of that from day one. Don't be dragging that crap in here as if the rank-and-file had anything to do with it.

With all due respect to the firefighter, I listen to the scanners and every damn time there is a call I hear "CFD wants CPD to ride on it". Dont shit in your own back yard Mr Hosepuller.

I wonder if many police officers will start considering other professions, and an exit strategy out of CPD? the news was showing the camera badge program with lots of other goodies for CPD ... like the way officers have to interact with the public...and the many many regulations that seem to have no end. (Who in there right mind would want to be a police officer nowadays?

You should have had your exit strategy on the first day of the academy. Some of us did. We are just playing the waiting game. If you wait until you are about to retire, then it is probably too late. Some of use have one or two extra careers on the side.

Superintendent Gotta Run would classify the murder of six family members as an Inny . Nothing police can do to prevent inny murders .
Person with a knife not dangerous , black caucus and mayor paid $4,900,000 offender threatening others with a knife a year ago before election .

Who was surveyed? Did they only do the survey in the gang infested drug dealing black neighborhoods? Try the same survey in predominantly white neighborhoods and I believe about 95% would totally support CPD.

Just a citizen.

@Transmaster
Don't you mean the Boston Globe, rather than the Boston Herald? I've been reading both since moving here almost six years ago from Chicago. The Herald posts stories busting state/local (mostly Democrat) government corruption and malfeasance, while the (very liberal) Globe whitewashes it. The Herald by the way endorsed both McCain and Romney in the last two presidential elections; the Globe endorsed Obama in both elections.

"I'm not a medic I'm a fireman." Medics are the only ones earning their salary on that job. Take your part time job and your "me too" clause and go talk on your own blog.

???

So let get this. The city offers you 10 hours days IF you go out and write a bunch of ISR's? If you don't see what's wrong with that your blind. What you'll do is screw the rest of us on tac teams. If your writing X number the city will want the rest of to match your numbers. Maybe I don't want to be the poster child for the ACLU. The Gun teams and the Mission teams will be screwed by you also.

But I guess the words WE and US are not in your vocabulary. Only words ME and I.

Ethics class by a fireman.

A retired fireman at that, at 85 working days a year is there any other kind?

Was it ethical to strike? How many people died in fires over that three week period? Because you couldn't wait a little longer for the raise Byrne told you was coming.

Your ilk struck and people died. You hindered the public's safety. We are not hindering the public's safety. The DoJ, ACLU and the Democratic Party are hindering the public's safety.

I particularly enjoy you stating that you are a fireman and not a medic, never understood your looking down upon the paramedics. The paramedics job is ten times tougher and now in the age of few fires their job is more dangerous as well.

And as far as you "firemen" go it isn't 1970 anymore. You're job is a walk in the park. Not only are you far less likely to be injured or killed nowadays but no fireman is going to go through the wringer after confronting the evils of society.

Just a thought: Is the CPD being set-up for replacement by a mercenary corporation like ACADEMI (formerly Blackwater)?
Or maybe a combination of Federal agencies?
"What had been traditional police missions now have a mix of police, private security firms and military working in the same arena."
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article3394.htm

In Iraq: "As of March 2010, there were 95,461 DOD contractor personnel in Iraq compared to approximately 95,900 uniformed personnel in-country. Despite fluctuations throughout the last seven quarters, troop and contractor levels have remained relatively equal. Contractors made up approximately 50% of the Pentagon's workforce in Iraq as of the second quarter of 2010." http://middleeast.about.com/od/iraq/a/iraq-contractors-troops.htm
This would fit in with the current admins. big "vision" for "transforming" America.
Keep up the good work!
