Media Fans the Flames

Evidently, the shit isn't hitting the fan hard enough, so certain media outlets have started to.....get this.....lie to advance their agenda. Here's CNN:

Yes, that was CNN saying that Chicago Police shot this guy for "jaywalking." No mention of the burglary to auto calls, nothing about the PCP influenced behavior, not even a mention of the knife. Just shot for jaywalking. Amazing, right?

And assorted columnists aren't any better. Here's Mope-rah (no link for this turd):
  • You can’t look at the video of a Chicago police officer’s shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald and hold onto any illusion that black people are exaggerating police brutality.
Can we point out that the black community's selective outrage and gullibility believing the media narrative remains as strong as ever?
  • It doesn’t matter what side of Chicago you hail from, there’s no way to understand why a white Chicago police officer would stand over the sprawled body of this young black male, and empty his weapon.
Um....didn't happen. Not even close.
  • The puffs of smoke wafting from McDonald’s body broke me down.
It isn't smoke Mopey. Smoke would imply that something in the human body was bursting into flame or that incendiary rounds were being used. Try to be less inaccurate.
  • And in what could be described as the ultimate display of disrespect for this life, an officer kicks the small knife out of the teen’s still hand.

He doesn’t bend down to take it.

    He kicks it.
Um, yeah. Unless you want to leave work with less fingers than you started with, you don't ever reach for a knife. Ever. That's just smart, unlike Mope-rah.

There's plenty to view in the video and plenty for sane people to discuss at length. No death is going to look pretty, and we've seen plenty of death, mostly at the hands of Mope-rah's "community." And the victims have been from Mope-rah's "community," too, come to think of it.

Stay safe, stay calm.

Can we start with the obvious?

How about an Officer's MUG SHOT
and the kid who's high on PCP with a Rap Sheet's obligatory photo in a Graduation Cap & gown...

No, absolutely ZERO bias there.

Fucking useless media hacks!

I also love the "Murdered by Chicago Police" nit-wits and their banner.
But I guess it's easier toting that around than the rather large "Blacks murdered by Blacks" banner.

Something just occurred to me. With the recent number of top exempts who retired is it possible that they were smarter than I thought? Got the hell out of Dodge and let McStreetlight take the heat.

Wouldn't surprise me if some of them end up as Chief of Police somewhere else.

A Pennsylvania state trooper was shot today at the hands of a black male.

Come to think of it, how many black males have been killed by white LEOs in Illinois this year? And how many white LEO's have been killed by black males in Illinois this year?

Where is their protest? Where is the outrage for them? Where are the cries for black males to stop killing white cops? Even worse, quite a few of those individuals then hype such actions in their lyrics and in "art".

Where is the outcry for black males to stop this epidemic of violence?

Why no mention of him attacking the first car on scene? He went at the windshield and then tried to take out the tires. There has to be dashcam footage of that.

The video was bad, but The north side is not in flames. The west side is not in flames. The south side is not in flames. Downtown is not in flames. From what I can tell, no one is injured at protests from college kids and the media did not get the riots they were hoping for. The Bulls won & The Bears will win their next game.

Because Rahm Emanuel is a craven chickenshit who
ordered the video suppressed so that "the community"

Rahm had a plan.

What struck me from the very beginning was the graduation photo being used and no mention of ANY of the known facts from that evening . Even the video clips that they are editing , any sane person is wondering how did this now deceased person end up walking down the middle of the street ?

Hey here is a thought , how about a time line and the events of the night in order so us simpletons can understand what happened , not the new "normal" of a 15-20 second video clip followed by and explanation of everything else form the biased media

The medias narrative is very dramatic and hardly mention PCP or the thugs lovely rap sheet.
Once again over charging by the states attorney to get the officer to plea bargain that is why NO bail was requested.
Jesse Jackson begging for New States attorney, he forget that an election is months away?
Other good asking for Garry to be fired I wonder who they want as SUPE?

Truth be told, I've seen lots of stuff on 'World star Hip Hop' that wrenched my gut more than ANYTHING I saw on this dashcam video.

Absolutely though, the media is trying to turn Chicago into Baltimore.

I'm retired, but from what I've seen so far, (and I have to assume the media is airing the worst footage they have), they are falling FAR short. Either the CPD is handling it better, or the Chicago protesters just don't have the stomach for this stuff.

I do not want to pass judgement on this officer since I do not walk in his shoes, but does it seem to anyone else that the delay of investigation, delay of indictment and the rush to dump video show how the politics of this matter controlled the criminal investigation.

All of this happened when Furgeson and Baltimore was fresh. And the City and Police decided to hide this all while turning it over to States Attorney. Who sounds like she wanted to wait to see if Feds would bring charges against officer.

To me and others it seems that the incident was a police shooting but the cover up is now the reaseon for the outrage not the shooting. I am white and 29 years on the job and agree that Mc Cartthy and staff are accountable just like Cline was with Abbate
And Alverez should be voted out for using this incident as a stepping stone for re election.

Think about it if this all was disclosed at the time it happened. Would we have protestes yes,
but there would be no hiding of the matter.

Mop rah is so delusional. Funny that on WGN news this morning, they asked some community agitator what he would do differently with the police department in this situation. He rattled off the same socialist rhetoric of empowering the community and giving more money and jobs. No specifics, however. Because they have no answers as to how to stop a PCP drugged man from running around the community with a knife slashing tires. Would they just follow him into a crowd and not touch him?

I'm not saying that the situation couldn't have been handled differently, but a PCP drugged thug ten feet away with a knife could be on an officer in less than a second. And that "small knife" that the media is attempting to agitate with, well, they seem to forget that a small box cutter can kill you like it did the passengers and crew on the planes on 9-11. Maybe they can show us how to take a small knife away from a PCP drugged thug without getting hurt or killed. I would love to see that demonstration aired on CNN.

Can someone higher up in the Catholic Church finally put this Fr Faker fool in his place. Give him a parish in Nothern Alaska. His 15 minutes were up a long time ago. For all the years of his antics - he has accomplished zero. His "community" remains one of the most violent in this city, if not the entire country. Instead of taking this incident and using it to deal with his owne issue of violence in general - he marches downtown and encourages people to interrupt holiday shopping? Why march in your OWN community to not only protest his views on this incident, but also the day to day killings by young black youth against each other and other innocent victims of gang violence. Probably because half of the folks who showed up downtown wouldn't go anywhere near his community. If I own a business downtown and lose holiday revenue - I'd figure out the lost revenue and sue St. Sabina for the difference.

There is a strategy to mis inform the public with the presentation of factually incorrect information. We should not be surprised for such behavior is how the various kinds of media can exert control over thinking and behavior of those consuming the information provided. You are taught and learn this in journalism school during the instruction of the 100 level courses at most colleges. You as a journalist can actually motivate people with incorrect facts and information and it can be accomplished with almost impunity; without any kind of responsibility. Another thing that is taught is if it bleeds it leads. So what is the surprise? Do you think you are dealing with reputable people when you trust your confidence to journalists and the media in general? Get with it gang. Carol Marin and Mary Mopely and the sinister Sneedster are not reputable people in my opinion. They are grocery girls for the produce managers who set the agenda. Once of the best examples yesterday was WBBM advising with fanfare they have the video and will post it on their website once they review it and certify it suitable and meeting their journalistic standards and is appropriate for broadcast. What? Those assholes are censoring the news and altering the facts. You either put in on in its entirety without edit or you choose to not post it. I knew if I wanted to get the story I would have to web search multiple sources and figure out the story for myself. Why would anyone be surprised the "Media Fans the Flames"?

the liberal mainstream media will never let the facts get in the way of a story and their agenda
so the officer shot the guy.....so what? their family hit the ghetto lottery to the tune of 5 mil....
unfortunately, the officer will face a trial....the Democratic liberals are pandering to the lowest class that feeds off of the government handouts (and votes Democratic)
will the 5 mil make that family more responsible, more contributing to society, or......buy a fancy car, spend money on some dumb shit that means nothing...
at the end of the day...this kid's death means nothing, absolutely nothing, to the rest of society......and life goes on

Yea, that is amazing. Jaywalking? CNN is lying and inciting violence.

Their broadcast license ought to be revolked.

The kid was hopped up brandishing a knife and walking in the middle of the street that's not jaywalking.

That's a public endangerment.

The shooting itself is complicated. Complicated in the sense the woulda coulda shoulda is easy when you're the one not in the heat of the moment.

That being said, it evidently may have been avoided, most importantly, had McDonald dropped the knife, followed the instructions of the police and not have acted so erratic in the course of events -- especially -- for example, when he started hopping and pirouetting around and turning toward Van Dyke while raising the knife during the seconds before the shooting.

In a perfect world, Van Dyke should have not been moving close enough to McDonald putting McDonald and Van Dyke in that 21 foot zone.

The other officer seemed to be proceeding so that he didn't get too close to McDonald and kept a distance protecting himself from an eminent threat. McDonald would have had to make a big aggressive and obvious move toward that officer.

JMHO

Bottom line the way I see it, none of this would have happened had McDonald not been brandishing a knife and had he followed the instructions of the police. If I were on the Jury, I would find Van Dyke, not guilty.

What the media is doing, CNN especially, is despicable. They are agitating the black community to find room to destroy.

Those teeny FACTS seem to have been omitted from all the reporting now. The media(s) narrative now IS like he was shot for jaywalking. ----

Last night, Julie Unruh talked about the complaints (CRs) filed against this guy and spent a lot of time on them and then said they were ALL dismissed (no punishments given). Then, after that, she said - this isn't admissible in court.

SO WHY DID YOU SPEND ALL THAT TIME TARNISHING THIS GUY on TV with CRs that were ALL dismissed??

Talk about trying to stir the pot! Funny, how she never said the kid was hopped up on PCP. (allegedly)

This disgusts me to no end. My heart goes out to all those who put themselves on the line everyday.

And to those who have held back on the job, I do not agree with you - BUT, I can see why your attitude has soured.

You need NEW leadership AND a Mayor who stands by you - or at least says someone is innocent till proven guilty.

Talk about trying to appease a group and hanging someone out to dry. Hopefully, his pretrial, prejudicial comments can be somehow used in the trial.

I am no F. Lee Bailey, but I don't recall First Degree Murder as the right charge to charge this police officer with.

Out of www.Criminal.Findlaw.com - the definition of First Degree Murder in most states is :
....In most states, first-degree murder is defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, meaning that it was committed after planning or "lying in wait" for the victim.

I've had several people challenge me about the shooting (which they hadn't seen yet), complaining about how he was shot sixteen times. The conversations range from shooting him more than once wasn't 'necessary' to 'you aren't allowed to shoot someone in the back' to 'once you shoot someone, they go down' to 'he was just a KID'.

I've tried to explain that once deadly force is called for, the number of shots is incidental. The point is to stop the threat the person represents.
I've tried to explain how it takes a dozen people to subdue someone on pcp and how a pcp-fueled brain doesn't operate like a normal brain and a pcp-filled body doesn't stop when bullets hit it.
And, I've tried to explain that white officers really don't put on their uniform, kiss the kids goodbye and leave the house with their minds set on killing a black person.

It all falls on deaf ears.

I have to say that you've got love the fact that the idiot that punched the cop at last nites loop protest and was ultimately charged with felony battery was caught because one of his comrades posted the picture of the punch to social media. Also, the three "hardcore" protesters that were arrested early on in the protest turned into feeble little pussies once inside lockup and acted like they had been in a German stalag for ten years when they got out, hugging, crying and reminiscing about their couple hours of pure hell sitting on a cushionless bench with no lattes to be had. Pathetic.

The video was not as horrifying as they have been portraying it to be, but that's because cops witness horror every day, and this was a mild crime scene in comparison. Sorry civilians, what's graphic to your eyes is not graphic to cops eyes.

With that being said, VD is going to end up in the joint for a long time. You can slice it anyway you want with the 21 second knife versus gun rule, or people on pcp are crazed rule, or the kid with the knife was a danger to others rule. One problem is every cop already on the scene radioed in they were waiting for a car with a taser, and VDs only defense can be that he heard they were waiting for a cop with a gun, or that he thought his gun was a taser. Another problem is he and his partner jump out of the car with guns drawn, which is fine, but VD fires his weapon as he may have viewed the kid with a knife as a threat to himself or to others. Yet his partner did not view that scene that way as he didn't shoot. Usually once one cop fires his weapon, it's almost instinct for others to fire theirs, but in this case no one did. Meaning even during a high adrenaline moment, the partner had enough sense to realize this was not a shoot scenario.

The other obvious problem is VD continually shooting the kid on the ground after a 6 second pause. Which also leads to the probable reason the city did not release the audio portion of the video. They don't want anyone to hear that actual pause in between shots fired. Nor do they want the world to hear the verbal instruction VD was giving to the kid. Based on VDs track record, it could be assumed there are some bad words on that audio.

A bigger problem is what oral and written statements did the cops make last year in relation to this incident? The department publicly justified this shooting in the press last year saying the kid with the knife lunged at the police. Now that the Feds are looking into this, many other cops careers could be in jeopardy.

Finally, did any cop of any rank look at this video immediately after the incident? This department as a whole has gotten more immature, incompetent, inexperienced, and stupid over the years, thanks to the implementation of college degrees and merit promotions. Big concerns and big questions.

the city wants in car cameras, they want body cameras and GPS. That is all and good, and im not saying that any type of lying or covering up of shootings is acceptable but if they want all of this technology in a very large and violent city then the city needs to be prepared for issues like this more often. This will only continue with the advancement of technology, increased use of cameras on officers and the ever increasing violence in this city. Instances of police/citizen interactions is at an all time high due to the increased violence and pressure to put hands on people and stop people. The CPD needs a HUGE shift in training. We have absolutly no choice except to start training officers like they State police or suburbs. Everything those guys to is professional and by the book. Yes, they dont have as quick as a lifestyle on the street and many things they do are slow and dragged out but we need that now. The CPD attituide of we do everything half assed and off cuff because we are so busy has got to stop. Traffic stops have to be 100 percent by the book, professionalism has to be there 24/7 even if its speaking to dope dealers, thugs, gang leaders etc. Its hard to be straight line professional when talking to these people because they WANT TO KILL YOU but its time to change. We need to LIMIT our interactions with the public. We need to effectivly do our job by good training and learning to to effectivly police. We need to stop arresting people for petty crap. We need to stop doing street stops just for the sake of getting contact cards. I feel that yes this will result in increased crime, however it will being the police department more towards being legitimate. If crime goes up it cant be on the police anymore, it has to be put on the neighborhoods. We can give them a professional police department that they want but they will have to change themselves to get crime down. can they do it??? More than likely not, but hey that now becomes their problem. Aldermen calling for GMACs resignation which will more than likely result in a pick who is not effective and is only political to appease the masses, the calling for a CITIZEN based investigative department to handle complaints with indictment power and increased pressure on police officers from every angle. FOP, you need to do what was done in New York and in Baltimore... YOU NEED TO HAVE AN EMERGENCY MEETING WITH REPS AND ENDORSE THAT POLICE OFFICERS IN THIS CITY DO THE BARE MINIMUM NOW!!! We are getting raped on all media fronts... even including fox news who commonly supports police departments. They are not just calling for the heads of the city and department but of the heads of all Chicago Police officers! FOP, you need to protect your officers, you need to endorse this measure like in other cities. If you do not it shows you are political hand puppets for the city and department.

The media is doing what they do best, create a story, the bloodier that more violent the better. They get there rocks off watching others misery and if it's not ugly enough, just throw in a cold pot stirring question that gives a different twist.
ILCS 720 5/7-5, for those that care enough to try and reason with this.
It doesn't say retreat when the badguy refuses to comply. Hell I saw the video, it shows a suspect making a bad choice, it also shows me the mindset of folks who think that he has a right to steal or to defy police and arm himself while defying. It shows me that when most people aren't directly a victim, they could give a fuck less whats going on, ( long before this).
I wasn't on-scene so I have just the video to look at and the few who say "this is how it went down". I cant go by anyone else but those right there and I cant say what this officer felt.
But if your like most Ive worked with you have those moments, when your hands are shaking from all the adrenaline, where you take a few deeps breaths and look at your fellow officers and hope there still standing and then say WTF. Unless you've walked in those shoes I think you have to keep an open mind and stop listening to all the hype.
If you really think retreat is the best response, then I don't know how long it'll take, as a nation, to retrain us to do that, specially after years of training not to, even at the cost of your life .
Maybe sit back and think how your going to respond to your neighbors screams for help as their husband or boyfriend beats them with a hammer....because the cops aren't coming cause we dont want them.....think quick you only have seconds till their seriously hurt or killed.... you took too long, game over. But this isnt a game.

Link to cps note sent home: has a special toolkit how about including "obey the law!!"

http://chicago.suntimes.com/education/7/71/1128602/cps-emails-parents-police-shooting-video

Chicago Public Schools sent a letter home to parents Tuesday saying that the “violent” Laquan McDonald video won’t be shown in schools but that CPS has developed “a special toolkit” for students to help process what they are seeing.

On Tuesday, Chicago Public Schools’ chief education officer wrote to parents to let them know the video would not be shown in schools.

“This footage is sure to raise many emotions among our children, and we want you to know that CPS will do everything possible to meet their needs,” Janice Jackson wrote in letters sent home with students.

“Even so, we know that many students will likely be discussing it and may be upset by its violent content.”

Jackson said CPS created a “special toolkit hat will help teachers talk to students about this incident in a sensitive and constructive way.”

CPS would not immediately describe those tools. As of late Tuesday, teachers and principals said they had not received any.

Later Tuesday, Jackson emailed principals and their bosses to let them know the video would be coming soon and urged them to call the CPS Student Safety Center with questions.

Students are not in school Wednesday and return Monday because of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Jackson also said school counselors would be available to speak with children, too.

“If you have any questions about how this situation will be handled in your child’s school, please contact your principal directly,” Jackson wrote.

The media made a mistake hyping the video when it was released. I expected to see some black kid in his graduation cap and gown with a cop standing over him pumping 16 bullets in him while yelling the n-word. Then when I saw the video there was a crazed black guy drawing a knife walking towards the police, spinning and facing nearby police with the knife still in hand. Gets shot, dies.

Yes, 15 was wrong. But I don't know what was right...1, 2, 5?

The media built up the video and when many people saw it they are thinking "well that wasn't as horrible as expected". The media does not exist to tell the truth. They exist to manufacture news and sell commercials. The good news is most people have stopped watching the news and reading newspapers. The industry is going bankrupt.

I watched about 10 minutes of WGN last night and was disgusted with that crew and turned it off. Then I remember why I haven't watched the TV news in about 10 years.

There was the one male news guy who mentioned that early in his career he spent a day with the cops and ran though some shooting drill in a room with a screen where you have to shoot the bad guys when the appears and not shoot the good guys. He said he often shot the good guys as they came around the corner. The other two on the set basically ignored it and moved on to the cap and gown picture.

The news reporters piling on and embellishing the story (i.e. making sh*t up) almost makes a person want to contribute to the cops defense fund.

The purpose of the shooting is to eliminate the threat. Not to "wing 'em" as perhaps you would have done! Then again you are simply a armchair judge who thinks he knows better.

Charges dropped against aspiring poet accused of striking a cop during Loop protest

"Felony charges were dropped against an aspiring poet with a growing national reputation who had been accused of striking a police officer during a protest in the Loop in the hours after the release of the Laquan McDonald video.

"Malcolm London, 22, of the 4900 block of West Huron in the Austin neighborhood, had been charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, a felony, sparking a social media outcry.

"But the charge was dropped during a brief appearance at a bond hearing Wednesday and he was released to the cheers and applause of dozens of supporters.

"London had faced the most serious charge of those arrested during the demonstration, which lasted for hours and briefly stopped traffic on the Eisenhower Expressway.

"Police said in a statement that London "was identified as striking an on-duty Chicago police officer" in the 100 block of East Balbo Drive as police blocked protesters from marching across the bridge.

"Supporters created a Free Malcolm London hashtag and urged people to call police to demand that he be released.

"He was just standing there and the police snatched him up," tweeted the Black Youth Project 100, which organized Tuesday night's march. London is listed as a co-chair of the organization's Chicago chapter.

"The others arrested during the protest are:

• Dan M. Vanriper, 38, of the 35900 block of Wilcox in Murrieta, Calif., charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance, one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of weapon (a Taser), one misdemeanor count of possession of a deadly weapon (a knife).

• Johnae A. Strong, 25, of the 1400 block of East 55th Street in Chicago, charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting police officer.

• May Page, 26, of the 5300 block of South Harper Avenue in Chicago, charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting police officer.

• Troy T. Alim, 24, of the 4600 block of South Drexel Boulevard in Chicago, charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting police officer."

A defender with a gun has a dilemma. If he shoots too early, he risks being charged with murder. If he waits until the attacker is definitely within striking range so there is no question about motives, he risks injury and even death. The Tueller experiments quantified a "danger zone" where an attacker presented a clear threat.[2]

Mythbusters covered the drill in the 2012 episode "Duel Dilemmas". At 20 feet the gun wielder was able to shoot the charging knife attacker just as he reached the shooter. At shorter distances the knife wielder was always able to stab prior to being shot.

From the video alone this was not 1st degree murder, the offender had a knife and was high on pcp. There was a video that came out shortly after Ferguson of two officers shooting a man with a knife immediately after they pulled on scene, those officers were justified, not much media out rage on that one. Bottom line deadly force encounters will continue to occur and now they regularly appear on video, justified or not they will never look pretty. The officer may appear wrong, but lets not pretend this was an honor student walking home from school in his graduation gown. We live in a city where on avg. there are 450 homicides and 3000 people shot in a year. Judgement for this officer should occur in court not in the media before because the shooting fits a media narrative. If this the way it's going to be we will be lawless in a decade or two.

>Do you think this was a justified shooting?< Yes, for the first four shots.

With the deceased slashing a tire with his edge weapon, the perp demonstrated he knew how to use it, and would use it. Yes, he was walking away obliquely from the officer, but he could have easily closed that 20 feet while his eyes blinked. Plus, letting him go would endanger any subsequent citizens encountered.

I think the first two shots are easily justifiable, even for a civilian with a concealed carry, it was needed to stop the threat. Double tap. The next two shots, even though this guy was twitching on the ground, could be justified as a fear he could still get up.

After those two additional shots and the brief pause, this guy presented no threat. The threat had been stopped. My conceal carry instructor would say it's time to holster your weapon and put your hand up when the authorities arrive. There would be no justifying additional shooting.

I want to hear the explanation for the next ten shots and the officer will get his chance in court. Even his partner told him to stop at the change of the magazine.

What was going through his 17-year-old mind on that stretch of Pulaski Road before he was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer won't ever be known.

But in the teen's final month, some caught a glimpse of a kid who showed signs of hope and promise to maybe untangle himself from a very troubled life.

"He would come up every morning and hug me, and he would do that with a lot of teachers," Beverly Ashley, one of his teachers at an alternative high school he attended, told the Tribune in an interview earlier this year. "He really liked being here. ... (It) was a safe place for him."

According to court records, McDonald's father abandoned the family and had "no presence" in his life. At just 4, McDonald became a ward of the state when the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services took him into protective custody over allegations that his mother had neglected him, according to state records.

He spent about two months in foster care before he was moved to a relative's home and eventually back to his mother in 2002. But after just a year he was again back in foster care when an acquaintance of his mother's beat him, causing cuts, welts and bruises, according to the records.

McDonald returned to his grandmother's care in 2003 and eventually became his legal guardian. She died in 2013, and he was placed with an uncle. Shortly after, he began to get into trouble, including an arrest for possession of marijuana that resulted in his detention at a juvenile facility, according to the records.

By May 2014, he was back with his uncle. And his mother was petitioning the court for custody.

McDonald enrolled in Sullivan House Alternative School in September 2014, a month before his shooting. In the few weeks he had been there, staff said he was engaged. He tended to arrive early, ahead of the 8 a.m. start, they said.

"He was forming really good relationships with a lot of the teachers in the class," Ashley said. "He wanted to be at school. He was here early a lot of days."

McDonald, who was tall at 6-foot-2, liked to rap and dance, his teacher recalled. And he was happy.
Laquan McDonald's wounds

"He was a really funny kid," Ashley said. "The things he would say were hilarious."

McDonald's funeral was held eight days after he was shot. With the obituary, there is a grade school photo of him in a red graduation gown. In it, he smiles awkwardly, holding his diploma.

His younger sister read a poem called "My Brother.

New media continues to identify race of officer everyday .
Same nes media refuses to identify race of black offenders that raped , murdered a pregnant female white woman or the black thug that shot a white medical student and attempted to execute him in new Orleans because he came to the aid of a female white that the black thug was attempting to abduct or rob .
Another thing a court will decide innocence or guilt , remember when OJ beat the murder rap of two white people , the black people were celebrating .
How about our news media, politicians , community activists and reverends REQUEST that the young male honor students quit using drugs , carrying weapons , assaulting police or just request of these young black citizens to follow the verbal commands of Police Officers when they are caught committing a crime . example drop the knife , gun , do not try to disarm a Police Officer . No mention of that , why was indictment delayed 13 months ? $4,900,000 hush money before a law suit , could that be considered obstruction , concealment of a murder , inquiring minds want to know.
Alverez is history , if video is the evidence , why was officer on the city payroll for 13 months , something stinks about the $4,900,000 payout and indictment a day before video was to be released . Thank goodness a journalist demanded the courts to force release of tape . Just think about it , a payout of taxpayer money to win an election . This incident also occurred when ferguson was burning and the outside groups were organized to burn down and loot cities . There's more to this story .

Father Agitator getting into high gear --

Protesters Promise to Target Chicago's Premier Shopping District

Updated on November 25, 2015 — 2:39 PM CST

"Activists vowed to march along the city’s Magnificent Mile to protest police dashboard-camera footage that captured Officer Jason Van Dyke shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald even after he’d fallen to the ground. The 13-block strip includes some 460 stores, including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s.

"Blocking off an intersection on the southern end of Chicago’s downtown Tuesday night, in mostly peaceful protests, demonstrators shouted “No Black Friday!”

"“It has to be an economic hit,” Father Michael Pfleger, a Catholic priest and activist, said while walking with protesters on a breezy Chicago night. “That’s what people listen to -- money.”

The good Father would know.

Shut this loudmouth down, Cupich. He's been there decades past what Church rules allow anyway. Send him to the Central Supply Warehouse somewhere out in Nebraska where he can peacefully meditate as he inventories No. 2 pencils.

Please.

"When I first saw the video I thought, man, it's hard to justify this shooting since the perp didn't technically rush the cop. Then I read this and changed my mind." The Tueller Drill"

The Tueller Drill is a self-defense training exercise to prepare against a short-range knife attack when armed only with a holstered handgun.

Nice try, the key is HOLSTERED as is purely evident Van Dyke's weapon was not holstered he exited the vehicle and immediately began firing not unlike the incident involving the 12yo kid in Cleveland. Perhaps that will be the strategy Herbert will use in defense.

Now the black alderman are complaining they never saw the video before approving $5 million to the family. They should all be let go and fired how irresponsible to approve a payout of tax payers dollars in such a large amount to a black family prior to seeing the video , they should be held responsible.
They are responsible to view that video not willy-nilly approve $5 million of tax payers dollars just because the family was black. They are trying to blame others because they were careless not to ask to view the video they were more than happy to relinquish $5 million . It's their job to do a full investigation prior to releasing $5 million not blaming someone because they claim they didn't see the video . They are not doing their jobs fire them!!

Charges dropped against protest leader accused of striking a cop during Loop march.

Police said in a statement that Malcolm London, 22, of the 4900 block of West Huron in the Austin neighborhood "was identified as striking an on-duty Chicago police officer" in the 100 block of East Balbo Drive as police blocked protesters from marching across the bridge.

Supporters created a Free Malcolm London hashtag and urged people to call police to demand that he be released.

Wearing a black T-shirt that read "apologetically black" on the back, London thanked the judge and smiled at supporters who packed a courtroom at the Leighton Criminal Court Building after a prosecutor announced the charges had been dropped.

Their demands were met. The Tribune and Yahoo are making this *** a Folk Hero.

To answer the question if SCC and others believe this was a justifiable shooting? The answer is legally yes, someone armed with a knife can stab you within a 30 foot radius of the officer before the officer can draw his weapon and stop the threat. There is case law by the Supreme Court in regards to the approved footage. It's called the 30 foot rule, it use to be 21 feet but changed about 8-10 years ago. Based off the video that was shown by the media, McDonald was high on PCP and within the 30 feet of the officer armed with a knife. I don't know if a taser was used and failed on McDonald or not, but we do know he was acting aggressively toward officers on scene with the knife by stabbing the windshield of one squad car and puncturing the tire of another. So was he justified? Yes. Did he have to shoot him that many times? I don't know, I was t there. It appears from the video maybe only 3-4 rounds were fired into McDonald while he was down, he will have to answer to those rounds on why he continued to shoot while McDonald was down. Shooting your gun at a person is a traumatic event for anyone. If you never been a shooting you wouldn't understand. The detectives asked me how many rounds do I think I shot, I truthfully responded 2 or 3. It wasn't until they located my shell casing and took my gun was it discovered that I fired 7 rounds. I was shocked that fired my gun that many times without knowing. Not criticizing but offering food for thought, just because you have the legal authority to shot someone doesn't mean yo have too. There have been plenty of times I could of shot someone and be justified by law but I didn't. Some will say it was dangerous and a gamble that should not of taken but then again they are not me and weren't there to experience the moment like I did, in those cases I never felt like my life or others was truly threatened. Sometimes you can place yourself in a dangerous situation or a tactical disadvantage and your only choice is to fire your weapon. So don't make a bad situation worse by purposely placing yourself in harms way if you don't have too. Happy thanksgiving everyone and stay fetal

With the X2 he would have been popped at least twice to be safe and its over. Don't know how you can do it without tools...Beanbags,tasers, mark 9's, K9's. As a retired officer I have seen and experienced numerous times in my career when the police were the scapegoat and political fall guys for the benefit of political or community leaders. I have never seen the atmosphere so toxic and hateful towards the police as I see now.
With the environment as it has been for the past year or so, I believe that it is time for officers to "take care of themselves and their partners, and everyone else comes last", as an "old school" Lt. in the old 12 district said after every roll call.
In short DO NOTHING, answer your calls, fill out the reports, and make no arrests.
I know that doing nothing is something hard to do,but remember if you do make an honest mistake,or some puke says you put the handcuffs on too tight, citizens armed with pitchforks will be calling for your head.

honest question here...in the video released Tuesday eve, i think at the 5:33 point to be exact, the perp McDonald does kind of a "spin" move (to his right, clockwise) where he ends up facing the 2 cops who have exited their car, guns drawn. Did he do this "spin" move because of the force of being hit by a bullet(maybe in the left side/shoulder area ?) or was it a conscious move by perp (for whatever reason) ? The reason i ask is because in the public video we can't see exactly when the officer starts firing(also due to no audio)...thanx to anyone who can clarify this for me !

I will tell you that I agree it looks terrible, but I was not there in that man's shoes. I don't know everything that happened. I wouldn't want to be judged for many things I have done without you having all the information that led to that action.

The offender, let's remember that he was an offender, was high on a hallucinogen by his own hand. It makes you stronger than several men and uncontrollable. He knew that when he took it but didn't care. I have seen it. Once you have, you'll always know it when you see it.

There was only property damage done by the offender. Luckily, no human victim came into contact with him, at least until the officers arrived. What I can tell you for sure is that if that was my block he was on, I would have been cheering the officer, not condemning him. I won't condemn him now.

Remember the officer came to work to do good. The offender was out terrorizing a neighborhood.

This guy is walking away from the police vehicle that he has his back towards but is definitely walking closer to the officer who shot him. It's unfortunate that there is no audio because I'm sure you would have heard numerous commands of "drop the knife". Let's go down the list of what we know.
Subject was breaking into autos stealing radios.
Subject was high on PCP.
Subject was given orders to drop the knife and get on the ground.
Subject refused to comply with numerous lawful police commands.
Subject commits criminal damage to a police vehicle.
Subject closes the distance between him and the officer, still armed with the knife and is dropped in short order.
What is happening here is we have a society that is governed by laws that most civilized people in our society obey. There are some people who believe that only GOD can judge them and the laws and opinions of society do not matter because they live by the law of the jungle and not the law of the land. All this liberal media condemnation of this officer is just furthering the devils agenda.
Good luck officer, you will remain in our prayers as well as every officer who goes out to the streets every day to keep the devil at bay.

Can someone confirm that CPD training it to keep shooting until the threat is neutralized? Also, NBC was making a big deal about the fact that the Officer reloaded his duty weapon, but isn't that what the Officer would have been expected to do in that situation?

body thinks it is justified .The P.O. thought it was justified ! I HOPE he articulated that at the time of this shooting!

Isn't the CPD use of deadly force instruction for an edged weapon within 21 feet
state that deadly force is justified? The 21 foot rule is due to reaction time and the speed that an attacker can reach you before you can utilize your weapon?

The video I saw is at an angle but subject did appear closer than 21 feet and to move toward Van Dyke's group. Once deadly force is justified the number of rounds seems sort of irrelevant.
As far as reloading: so what? His weapon and mag were empty. He was trained to reload. Give me a break

I think he should not be charged. Would the outrage be less if only one round was fired?

Once again failure to follow police commands and being armed with a knife set the
use of force into motion. This is the common denominator in all of the recent high profile shootings in the last year.

Hey mom's and dad's try parenting.

Let's start by going 'old school.' Replace the 9's with the 357 magnum. Allow the newer 7 round version. Better stopping power than a nine anyway. Also the media loves broadcasting those officers toting their 'rifles at the ready' every chance they get. Imagine the coverage if an officer empties a 30 round clip into someone.

Pathetic.

11/25/2015 11:07:00 AM

Here is one for ya..............
The same idiot who was charged with a felony in this incident, had is case dropped today in court by the ASA. Even after the judge found probable cause!! The State's Attorney made this call and is trying to gain favor with the public.

Thanks for declaring open season on police officers. Now all ya gotta do is punch a police officer and the state will drop charges.

This is truly a travesty of justice. I hope that our unions remember this at election time and do not endorse her.

Getting tired of reading how bosses in the old days had your back. Been on over twenty fiv years. Never saw such backing, same bunch of political hacks back then as now. They would/ will hang you out to the animals to further their own agenda anyway possible. One exception I met over the years, John Farrell. I'm sure their are others, but very few.

SCC, it troubles me to watch these protesters attempting to provoke and intimidate officers by yelling within inches of the officer's faces and bodies. How close is too close? Whatever happened to, "Back Sir!" We all were taught in the academy?

When will we learn to give them what they want?. Let them shoot, rob, rape each other!! Come in later to do the report, that's it. This is a new police department, it's a passive mentality you need, not a go get em, right out of the academy mentality! You are a fool to be doing pro active policing now, because you my friend could be standing in front of the news doing your job the way you were trained, but you will be wrong anyway!! When crime skyrockets and no arrests can be made, eventually the public will get it. I can even foresee an ISIS asshole shooting up a crowd, but find the policemen in the wrong for blowing him away. Let them figure it out then. If we were organized with our approach, we would be a force to be reckoned with, but unfortunately, I don't see that happening anytime soon, we've got people who want to be promoted any way they can and will step over you to get it, not to mention bosses who have no heart or balls to do what's right just to keep there little spot. CPD is fucked up beyond all recognition to all you rookies, I feel sorry for you.

If they didn't have the appropiate police presence in these districts for vri the media would really see the violence they commit. We are helping them. And yeah I get you need the money for juniors tuition, but some time in your life, you have to take a stand and make a statement, then maybe you can look in the mirror and truly say you are what you are.

When the hateful news media turns their cameras off these thugs will stop.

With a visible injury, make the IOD report, seek medical attention in the ER and take time off to recover. If the ASA dropped charges then you earned the right to time off for recovery. See you after New years. Be safe and enjoy the family time.

I watched this video several times.

What sticks out to me is how he would keep his hands in his pockets while running with police... then suddenly theres a silver glint of something in his right hand.

I'm no cop or lawyer so when you ask yourself about the number of times he was shot, i really don't know how to respond. These cases are about perception; not reality.

Funny, since this video was released is seeing people removing the lights from the Christmas tree and damaging it yet no arrests.

Funny, seeing people standing in the streets of Michigan Avenue etc blocking traffic and even damaging stopped vehicles yet no arrests.

Funny, watching media videos of protesters getting in the faces of CPD and making g threats such as the KKK, etc and no arrests.

A lot of funny incidents only they're not funny at all when you see the reality of what's happening and there is no perception. The reality is that Chicago Police have absolutely zero power.

Once again I ask myself how many shots did this officer fire when a individual supposedly on drugs and damaging police cars, fleeing then brandishing a weapon..... What exactly was supposed to be done here? Taser? Bean bag? What????

Or are Chicago Police supposed to try to disarm this person at their own expense without using anything at all? Because I sure know a lot of CPD that have had numerous surgeries, heart attacks etc because they choose to not use any weapon.

In defense of the Mayor and States Attorney Alvarez, I applaud them for taking the time to ensure that there was no rush to judgement. So many of these heater incidents in the past couple years that have resulted in riots were ultimately incidents that were justified and the officers cleared. It is not unreasonable that at first sight the shooting appeared somewhat justified by the powers that be, however they knew something was wrong otherwise they wouldn't have stripped the officer and began a multi-agency investigation.

Those who should be really ashamed of trying to spin this to their advantage are the alderman calling for the removal of the Sup and States Attorney. It's shameful that they would try to portray themselves as ignorant of this incident for a year when we all know that is not true. They approved a settlement of $5 million in tax payer dollars shortly after the incident. Their story that they were blindsided by this, and the blame for the Sup or Alvarez is just insulting all the way around. We're alderman also sleeping at the wheel when they signed away billions of dollars in revenue with the parking meter deal? These aldermen should all be removed as they are liars. Period.
