Off Duty Sheriff Shot

  • An off-duty Cook County correctional officer was shot in the leg Monday night in an alley behind his mother's Little Village home, authorities said.

The man, who was wearing his uniform, was in an alley with his son near the 2800 block of South Tripp Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. when someone in a minivan shot him, then fled north in the alley.

Chicago police said the man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Word is of a robbery gone wrong, but the area has also been the subject of a number of warnings regarding a revenge shooting against the police. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Ever notice those sheriffs never wear cover shirts off-duty. Why always strut around for all to see?

Thirteen hurt in shooting outside New York City house party

By ALISON FOX August 2, 2015

"Nine people were shot and four others were injured at an East New York house party early Sunday morning.

"The gunfire erupted just before 2:30 a.m. after an argument at the party, held on Stanley Avenue, near Crescent Street, police said.

"Of the shooting victims, six were women and three were men, ranging from 19 to 38 years old. They were all hospitalized in stable condition.

"While the party was underway, a pair of men walked up to the house and starting shooting, police said...."

...but not to worry. A solution is just around the corner...

Wal-Mart, Amazon.com and other retailers agree to pay more than $300,000 for violating New York's toy gun laws

August 4, 2015

"Attorney General Eric Schneiderman settled with several major big-box retailers for more than $300,000 Monday in an effort to crack down on the sale of toy guns that could be confused with the real thing.

"In New York, all toy guns must be marked with orange stripes down the side and have an orange cap. The standard is even stricter in the city, Schneiderman said, in which they have to made out of white, brightly colored, or translucent plastic with a visible company logo or name..."

They even had a big Table Of Toy Guns at the press conference. Quick! Everyone! Point and shriek in horror, and wring your hands!

I shake my head every time I see any peace officer(even CPD) wearing their uniform in their personal car driving past me in traffic. What goes thru their mind that they feel the need to advertise what they do? It only opens the door to silly complaints and/or the chance for random violence in these police-hating times.
So for those show-offs: YOU LOOK DUMB!

That NY painted gun stripes is bullshit. Now the shit-birds will start painting the real guns with the fake guns colors in an effort to deceive the police in that split second. Be careful brothers/sisters.

Sgts took their Lt test 06 June. 100 question scantron. We were told that part two would be 29 August. Some are studying every day and all have yet to receive their results of part one to determine if they are even eligible to take part two. Now I hear part two is delayed indefinitely again?? WTF!

Dart keeps his sheriff out of any criminal justice loops.
Many sheriff live outside the city and lack street stop skills. Its sad but the tenth district see many cases where sheriff involve themselves in off duty related incident and barely are capable of stating probable cause and use of force coherently. I love these guys just need to keep an eye on them for their own good.

****WARNING**** Another 90's cop longing for days of old:
There was a time when knowing shithead gangbangers had so much as looked at a copper's family member sideways, would've meant at least, a week's worth of all out hell on that gang in that district.
No postin up on the block.
No reppin the colors.
No fuckin sellin dope.
No even being visable, if you were a banger.
Hell, there were even occasions, when the gang would punkin-head the offending member who brought said reign of hell to their door.
But alas, that was the 90's & before...when kel-lites 357's & 44 Mags owned the day.
Glad I got to be a copper when we were not only allowed, but expected to own the streets.

One problem with it the brightly colored toy guns is that the are some weapons which are marketed for women and colored pink!!
Bottom line is teach your children NOT to point a toy gun at the police.
For once, NBC aired a report yesterday which showed how a red tipped toy gun tucked in the waistband could cause a tragedy.

A speedy recovery to the wounded Deputy/CO

I work first watch and I don't get it. I see Cook County Sheriff's wearing their full duty uniform while either going to work or coming home from work and they stop by to eat at a restaurant or a gas station, etc. Even us, CPD is not smart in that regards. How many officers do you see wear their blue cargo pants and a oversized baseball jersey? You ain't fooling anyone. People know you are the police. Especially shit heads. Keep your full uniform in your locker and wear regular clothes coming in to work and after done with work. Don't give the bad guys any more leverage than they already have.

You guys that say the coverup shirts don't really coverup anything are missing the point. While it's true they really don't cover much up, at least when you are in your car the guy driving in the car next to you can look over at you and not see a uniform shirt. That's all it is really supposed to do. Since most of us go right to work from home or right home from work, a coverup shirt does it's job.
I used to work for a small suburban sheriffs department. I was amazed when I started there at the number of guys that I would see driving home in full uniform. Now I know it was a real nice county where not much was going on but trouble can happen anywhere. When I happened to mention the value of a coverup shirt one day in passing to another deputy he looked at me as if I had three eyes and couldn't understand why I thought one was neccessary.

First I want to say GREAT response by CPD, CCSD Brothers in Blue appreciate it. Second I have to say that I totally agree with the fact that one should not be wearing their uniform out in public , although I know many officers do not use a locker (this includes CPD) and even though a baseball jersey, or shirt over the uniform will not always suffice, I believe it does the job while driving in a car. Lastly to all my CPD Brothers and Sisters....Be safe.

Oh, read between the lines.
Why wasn't Thor changing in the locker room?
Why didn't this Sheriff change clothes at work?
That was the real intention of the question.
It came from someone who is either clueless about our working conditions (no, it's not like on tv) or someone who wanted to be a smartass about how 'this wouldn't have happened' if only the victims had changed clothes at work. (You know, kind of like blaming the rape victim's clothing, instead of blaming the rapist for his criminal act.)
