More Excuses for Cop Killer

  • Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin understands why police officers are angry the Illinois Prisoner Review Board has ordered the release of the killer of a Chicago cop.

The board voted 8-6 Thursday to free Joseph Bigsby, who was serving a sentence of 100 to 200 years in prison for the 1973 murder of Chicago Police Officer Edward L. Barron.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy called the decision a “travesty.” The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation said the decision was “disappointing.”

“I appreciate their strong feelings,” Suffredin said Friday. “But he served 42-plus years. That’s not a slap on the hand.”
You know what Officer Edward L. Barron is missing right now Larry? His retirement. His golden years. Bouncing his grandchildren on his knee and regaling them with humorous or heroic stories about when he was a young man growing up in Chicago. Looking over the holiday decorations and a family table laden with good food and better company, marveling at how a copper ever had it so good after 30 or 35 years of a job like his. He missed a Superbowl, a World Series, six basketball championships, three Stanley Cups and forty-two more years of futility on the north side. All of that taken away by a shithead, high on dope, sticking up people for his next fix that netted a whopping $2.05.

And that's not all:
  • Suffredin has a personal stake in Bigsby’s case: He was the lead public defender at his trial in 1975. The other public defender was John Cullerton, now the president of the Illinois Senate.
Really? This was news to us. Can someone tell us how many FOP endorsements or campaign contributions went to Cullerton, dating back to 1973? We're curious.

And another stomach turner:
  • Illinois Prisoner Review Board member Edith Crigler, herself the widow of a police officer, was among those voting Thursday to release Bigsby.

“We, as a society, must show compassion,” Crigler said.
Only when compassion is warranted you dumb fuck. Bigsby attacked the very foundations of society, the most approachable and visible arm of government (and therefore the most vulnerable). By negating Officer Barron's sacrifice for a $2.05 robbery, you diminish the legitimacy of the police to enforce the laws of a supposedly civilized society, the legal and rightfully just verdict rendered by jury, and the appropriate sentence enacted by the legislature and handed down by a judge.

Society has an obligation to remove from its midst, animals that conscientiously disregard the rule of law. Bigsby should have died in the electric chair, age restrictions not withstanding. Failing that, he should have died on a prison hospital gurney, old, alone, and still restricted by the bars he earned of his own actions.

Officer Barron died on a Chicago sidewalk for daring to live up to the ideals of society, and today, society spit upon him.

This is, quite simply, a perversion of justice.

They should all be ashamed. Hey Larry, why don't you spend some of that corrupt law-firm money on a new toupee, because that dead rat you have now looks ridiculous. Cullerton, your dirty fingers are in every aspect of this state. You should've been forced to resign after your DUI kid smashed up the state funded car. Democratic thieves. I hope there is an afterlife, and you all pay for your crimes you democrat scum of the earth. Between these two, Daley, Burke, rahm, obummer, madigan, Quinn, Hillary, preckwinkle, JJ, JJJ, SJ, and countless others of corrupt politicians, it seems like that is the only place where they'll ever be held accountable.

Possibly something bigger going on here? Money involved?
It doesn't make any fucking sense.
A 270 year sentence gave the family closure at the time and they thought this was all behind them until 2015.

Now ya have to think about Brian Strouse's family and John Knight's family and many other gold star families who thought their nightmare was over. Wasn't Strouse's murderer a juvenile too? I hope he dies in jail but now you never know. The real victims are not only the officers who were killed but the family members too. These liberals dance the night away on their loved ones' grave after freeing this killer and will scratch and claw to free more cop killers. Our disgust may be just beginning.

Ironically, the same day the parole board let go a convicted cop killer, Bigsby, Judge Brosnahan sentenced another cop killer, Herring, to life without parole for the murder of Officer Brian Flisk. has to ask whether that sentence of life without parole will be carried out or will wind up being shortened considerably like the 200 year sentence meted out in the murder of Officer Ed Barron. When sentences are issued, they are based upon the considered judgments of juries and judges who are familiar with intricate details of the crime and the character of the defendants. It is abhorrent that years later a group of individuals who did not sit through the trial, did not suffer the losses that family and friends did, and have only a hindsight view, can terminate a considered and just sentence. 200 year and life without parole sentences are not given out frequently or without considerable thought. They should not be disturbed years later due to the defendant's good behavior while under lock and key. God Bless the Barron and Flisk families.

From a troll: This whole PRB thing is sickening to me. I suppose in order for her to get on the board she had to prove she is "fair" minded. She SHOULD be working to keep the asshole IN prison. She should have recused herself from voting under the circumstances. If she cannot do that, get off the board. No murderer should ever have an expectation that they can be paroled. Such expecttions are another fallacy of the criminal justice system in this country left unaddressed. People tell me the hope of parole is useful because it helps control the prison population. What? I think the prison administration and State should control the prisoners. If they misbehave they SUFFER the consequences. My heart breaks for the Kaner family who recently observed another year of their fathers death and the Loftus family just to name two; but we remember many many more. They have to regularly relive their grief appealing to the PRB that the animals who killed their loved ones remain in cages where they belong. THIS IS CRUEL AND UNUSAL PUNISHMENT.

What is justice? Seems it no longer exists in our nation. Justice. Sold to the highest bidder. Down the memory hole it goes. Instead we find ourselves immersed in "social- justice" where right is now wrong, and wrong is now right. We have passed the Rubicon and we shall reap the "rewards" of our collective failure to fight while we still had a chance.

Screw you, Bigsby. Hope you get stabbed in some pee-smelling vestibule over a dice game a month after you get out. It'd be typical -- a "reversion to type."

To "perversion of justice" add ""travesty," "outrage..."

So can't the sheisters figure a way to get Bigsby a huge settlement of some kind? Everyone else seems to get one, so that they can get a custom swimming pool with their name set into the tiles and then drown in it a while later...

You were not the only ones shocked by the duscovery that Cullerton had been part of that defense team. I expected it of Suffredin, in his last election he was clearly a Liberal anti-gun, anti-police piece of shit. But to hear Cullerton had been part of a defense team that defended a cop killer was a surprise. Before I became a police officer, I had a job working as an investigator for the Cook County Defense Consortium, and this was a very Liberal radical group of attorneys. Yet, when we had a client accused of sexual assault, the female attorneys would ask to be excused from defending the client, because they knew he was probably responsible for the act and they wanted him to go down. Attorneys can for personal reasons walk away from a case, unless ordered to remain on the case per a judge. And ordering an attorney to stay on a case could be grounds for reversal, so it is seldom done. Cullerton and Suffredin clearly chose to stay on the case and supported the client, in Suffredin's case decades after he was found to be guilty. Why are we unable to stand up to these politicians as a Group and organize to remove them from Office when they run for re-election? Cullerton and his habitual DUI son are scum, as is that piece of shit Suffredin, yet they consistently run undefeated! As do the judges who clearly hate police.

Sen. Jackson is back on the streets too. As are an entire oligarch crew of corrupt, criminal banking exec's and their political cronies that run cover for them.

Oh and how's that fast and furious gun running thing to the drug cartels going and the backing of ISIS to create a crisis that can be used as a tool to gain more power claiming to fight ISIS and protect us from ISIS.

Enjoy the Hollywood production as all the minor issues (i.e. gay marriage, transgenders, LGBT, etc) are flooded across the lapdog media front pages.

Propaganda designed to conjure up debate between the parties as though they are fighting for you for something meaningful. However what impact does it have to the majortity of the planet? A small minority YES but overall in the big picture?? Yeah.

Compare the bullshit, even the Black Lives Matter bullshit and the confederate flag bullshit and all the other phoney battles with the real issues going on.

Oh like...let's say compare it to the ongoing Fuckishima [sic] reactor melt down with the missing reactor cores pumping tons of poison into the pacific ocean that will be there for centuries!!! Has to be the biggest cover up of all time. The so-called best and brightest minds on the planet don't have a plan to solve it.

And then there's the secrete trade treaty deals whereas control of the nations sovereignty has been quietly transferred from congress to a group of multi-national corporations but oh look...the white house is lit up with pretty rainbow colored lights

Now I ask you misplaced priorities, ya think?

The entire system is coming down and we have the media stoking political party bullshit with groups of people snickering and boasting 'we took a flag down" like it matters. Like they won something. "Hey that's our guy we won" ...lol..smh

Meanwhile, the guns and support flow from US leasers to ISIS, Fast and furious gun running, reactor meltdowns, Greece financial collapse, wars. oh and all the wars we're trying to start and some people have the balls to tell us 'we are concerned for your safety"?

Gimmie a fucking break

Now let's get out there and tow and impound some cars for the pride parade. #ParkingTicketsMatter$$$

Remember all the crap they feed us about being held to a "higher standard", how more is expected of us and how we are responsible for the image and reputation of this department? Remember all of the laws and penalties implemented to ensure the protection of law enforcement by those offenders who blatantly disregard the uniform and would attack or harm the men and women wearing it? Well, now what the hell does it all mean when they release an evil low life savage that killed a police officer? That officer fulfilled his end of the bargain. He upheld his oath, the integrity of the department and met that higher expectation at the expense of his own life. Now the criminal is excused and absolved of his acts? The parol board thinks he has turned his life around in some extraordinary fashion so as to deserve his freedom after taking the life of a peace officer? They should be made to take this savage home with them. Let him sleep in the same house, in a room next to themselves, their children, their parents. They should live, eat, and breathe with this animal in their homes everyday he is allowed to roam free. I wonder how many nights of sleeping with one eye open it would take before these parol board clowns sent the animal back to prison? They would shit their pants if that was a real condition of release. And maybe it should be - if these people deem someone fit to join society, why not put their own ass on the line and prove it by living with those they release? If that were the case, maybe these gas bags on the board would shut their sanctimonious traps and criminals would stay where they belong. That will never happen, of course. The rules always apply to someone else, and bureaucratic mistakes are without consequence to those well insulated administrative elites who make them. The fact that they released this criminal scumbag just proves how little they really value police and the law abiding. Everyone should be outraged.

No it doesn't. That is the mantra for people that don't really care enough to really care enough. A mantra for losers. There is no magical force that rights wrongs. That is up to us. WE must be what comes around.

Remember. Remember the Alamo. We did and we prevailed. Remember Pearl Harbor. We did, and the Japanese were made to pay dearly for their aggression. On a smaller scale, we remembered Bill Cozzi and Cathy Toughy and Superintendent Weiss and Judge Passerelli had to go.

We wonder how these same politicians that cheat and steal get reelected. It is because we don't remember. We don't remember and a rapist is elected to the highest office in the land. His wife will hold that office too, if we don't remember. Remember she is a liar and a criminal. Remember our men that died in Benghazi and her dismissal of it's importance. Remember that tiny investment she made that netted her a 1000% profit. That wasn't beginners luck. Remember the contempt out current Mayor holds for us. Remember the theft of Mayor Daley. Treat them accordingly. Where is their indignation at this travesty, the release of this murderer. They don't care one wit.

Remember. Make sure your friends and family remember. Remember and do something about it.

Lawrence J. "Larry" Suffredin (born October 5, 1947) is currently a member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners representing the 13th district which includes the West Ridge and Rogers Park areas of the City of Chicago as well as Glencoe, Niles, Lincolnwood, Evanston, Skokies, Glenview, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Northfield and Winnetka in the north suburbs. (wikipedia)
---

Suffredin doesn't run for countywide office as Commissioner, only those voters from the area he represents will see him on the ballot.

I never knew Cullerton worked in the public defenders office. We know now. Cullerton was "appointed" to fill the Illinois Senate seat of Dawn Clark Netsch in 1991 and ran for election the following year. That is the Democratic trick of "appointing" someone when the outgoing resigns to spend more time with their family before the end of their term so as to give them the advantage of being the incumbent. Daley did that all the time and so has Rahm. (alderman, City Treasurer, etc.)

They are all part of the phony baloney corrupt Illinois government that controls Illinois. The "Illinois Combine"

Is this a done deal? Or can we still do something to prevent his release? Can we lobby Governor Rauner to do the right thing and not release this asshole? To think that someone can murder us while on duty performing our job on behalf of society and the murderer can simply walk away in 20-30 years is beyond disheartening.

6/27/2015 07:55:00 AM

How about protest, riot, destroy and burn down neighborhoods to get what we want. Society would show compassion because we are outraged at a decision made by a part of government. Seems to be the thing to do these days.

As far as the FOP giving money to politicians or endorsing people for election, I am totally against all of it. I believe that it should be against state law for a public employee union to donate money to politicians or to political causes. It is a conflict of interest. Lets start with teachers. Then make strikes by public employees illegal. What you do as an individual is your business, but public sector unions should be banned from doing so.

Crook County Commie Democrat Politicians are the biggest proponents for releasing parasites like this. Watch what the do, not what they say. Not a word or action when then Gov Pat-atohead Quinn released hundreds of them. Too expensive to keep violent criminals in prison, but OK to give away Billions in Middle Class Tax Dollars in Food Stamps, Welfare, Unemployment, fraudulant SSI, etc. they are just Communist re-Distributors of Wealth earned by working people. They are nothing more than robbrrs without a gun. How many more will these released violent Felons, kill, injure, harm, after they're released to again roam wild on our streets? Thanks Democommies.

Again, here are the 8 PRB members who voted to release Bigsby. To clarify, Crigler's husband was retired CPD. Unlike Ed Barron, he got to see retirement before passing.

Crigler, Edith (husband and son are CPD)
Shelton, Donald (retired Sgt, Champagne PD -- Quinn appointee)
Findley, Craig (PRB chairman)
Dunn, D. Wayne (Rauner appointee)
Duncan, Gary (former ASA -- Rauner appointee)
Perkins, Aurthur Mae (Rauner appointee)
Harris, Vonetta (Quinn appointee)
Jones, Daryl (former ASA -- Rauner appointee)

Bigsby was represented by Steve Drizin and his Northwestern group. They had 10 years to coach him on what exactly to say to the PRB as well as what to do in prison to better his chances for release.

Sufferdin wants nothing better than to get rid of my Department. He is viral about it. And he is antgun. A trifecta of asshole-dom!

Cutting to the chase, can anyone tell me how we can be better notified of when these parole hearings come up?

We had a bunch of our guys go down to Springfield when Mike Ridges killers were up for a parole hearing.

I have no problem jumping in a car with 1-2 other guys and head down there when one of the jag offs comes up for a hearing whether it is CPD or CCSPD case.

I agree with one of the other posters, very disconcerting that a widow of a Policeman and a retired one are actually okay with this. What is the criteria that they use for granting a parole? It has to be clearly subjective, based on what the one woman said.

Compassion my ass!

This cop killer was sentenced before 1978 in an era of indeterminate sentencing. These asswipes go up for parole in front of these panels. Cop killers sentenced after this date are not eligible for parole. So the families of officer Strouse , Knight and Flisk won't have to go through the agony of going to these parole hearings. So if you are sentenced to 100 years I believe that you have to do 85 percent in Illinois for certain violent crimes.

Comm. Suffredin and Senate President Cullerton were assigned to represent an individual they may have not liked. When they were responsible for representing their client as public defenders they did the utmost to protect their clients interests, which was they were supposed to do. Their client was a sixteen year old individual, who made a mistake. How many of us made mistakes when were 16? I understand the vast majority of us did not make mistakes to the magnitude of Suffredin's, or Cullerton's client. However, examine what you did, or a friend which may have caused an overly ambitious prosecutor to charge an individual, whether it be you, or a close friend when you were 16. We all have sin!

Granted no one in the law enforcement community likes to recognize mistakes. However, we make them everyday, but we are represented by lawyers whom represent our interests. To blame Suffredin and Cullerton for representing their client is comparable to denouncing Herbert, Pleines, Geiger, Roddy, etc. While the murder should never be excused, everyone has a right to counsel, and due process.

God Bless the Barron family! We will always remember!

Rauner appointed most of that review board. Wasn't Rauner supposed to be a Republican?

Why wasn't the vote 10-4 to deny parole? Why isn't someone stomping the shit out of Rauner at this minute? Why were so many cops enamored of Rauner because he ran as a Republican? Why no backlash by the law enforcement community against Rauner the Republican? He appointed most of those fucks.

What should be done is get rid of the vast majority of suburban police departments and toll them into the county sheriff's department. Many of these small town departments are sad cases with poor pay, poor training and way too political. Maybe it is time for "township" police?
