Ex-Commander Trial Delayed

Prosecutors move to delay - something came up?
  • An unexpected move in court Wednesday by prosecutors in the case against Chicago police commander Glenn Evans as they requested and received a delay in the start of the trial.

It was scheduled to begin June 22.

Prosecutors said, “something has come up,” but did not give specific details.

Apparently, the Chicago Police Department’s Internal Affairs division is conducting an investigation that may have some bearing on the case.
McJersey was not seen nearby supporting his brass.

No joking matter on this one. There's problems with the DNA evidence.

Internal Affairs has a long-standing policy of not pursuing an investigation until a court case is concluded. I doubt the prosecutor is asking for a delay based on anything coming out of Internal Affairs, UNLESS the information exonerates the commander.

'Something came up' sounds a heck of a lot more like recanted accusations, uncooperative witnesses, or a death in someone's family than Internal Affairs riding to anyone's rescue.

Because of politics and optics, the Bronx Bomber cannot get to close to the case. In his heart he wants to be supporting his captain.

Ya he made a deal with that alderman and all will be forgiven. It's not about law and order. It's about power.

Commander Evans is the real deal. I am so sorry this is happening to him. This guy goes out of his way to watch out for his troops and supports them 110%. My prayers are with you Commander Evans.

Back when it was Confidential and Corrupt Practices, we could not gas our own covert cars, attend police functions or set foot in 1121 S State. We had our own workout equipment (bought by us) in a room in our own facility. How stupid of the CO, whoever it is, to allow them to show their faces and cars at 3510.

Agreed, I too work back in the day when HQ was at 1121 state and never seen anyone from any covert operation walking around there, then again maybe they were that's why it's called confidential, but today "secret I.A.D guys take the covert cars shopping, home, out to eat in groups while working. What a freaking joke. Who watches the watchers?

Internal Affairs does not have a long standing "policy" regarding the pursuit of investigations until a court case is concluded. Unless you are clouted or it's in the best interest of the department or city, they may hold off investigating. Bet your ass if you piss them off and do not take an "offer" FOR suspension, you will be called down long before the case is concluded. When questioned by an attorney as to why I.A.D was investigating a case before it's conclusion in court and singling out a client, I.A.D responded, there is no reason or explanation why and that there is no policy in place that forbids them from doing so.

When they swabbed his gun it was a department investigation. Just like when you give a statement you are doing so under duress. When you give your gun to get swabbed you are doing so only because you are being ordered to and are only doing so because you may loose your job if you refuse. Just like if you get a DUI and have to blow, or give a breath sample you are doing so as part of an administrative investigation... This blow cannot be used in a criminal investigation as we have seen in the past... well, guess what this is the same thing. This swab of the officers property(his own gun which he paid for and which there was no warrant for) was done only administratively which means the swab for dna of the officers own property cannot be used in a criminal trial... your gun which is your property and you purchased is your property, just like lets say your cell phone. They can swab a department radio, a badge, a cpd vehicle, a locker in the station etc.. but when it comes to your property during an administrative investigation it can be done without restrictions or limitations. When it comes to become part of a criminal investigation there are more rules and limitations the state must abide by. his weapon was swabbed only as part of the administative process, the evidence will not stand in a criminal trial... The state just realized this will not stand a motion and more than likely cannot be used in trial.. oops!!!

Nope. Post-Hanssen. He left cpd in 76.

You're thinking of C-5, not Confidential and Corrupt Practices Section.

To unpublished,

Because advocating that type of policing is what got him in trouble in the first place. It isn't the 70's and 80's any more and thinking you can get away with that shit reflects badly on everyone.

Evans worked part time security at the old Walgreen's at 63 and Cottage Grove in the 80s. Any time he caught a shopplifer, if you were the paper car, you could bet your bottom dollar you would be transporting a bloody arrestee to the E.R first. Unreal he hasn't figured the times have changed.

evans would get off beating the shoplifter's ass. If he would show up at court He would collect from Walgreens plus put in a slip for overtime.
