Hey Mark Brown?

Go f#$% yourself, too - a completely craptacular article by a clown - we sample it below:
  • The convergence of three separate police department scandals at one City Council meeting Wednesday could be explained by more than Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s desire to tidy up old business before he starts a new term.

A line can be drawn from the Jon Burge police torture cases to police mishandling of the David Koschman death investigation to the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, who was shot 16 times by a police officer whose actions were caught on videotape.

I’m not saying it’s a straight line, but you don’t need a particularly broad brush to connect the dots.
But there you are with your broad brush, painting by the numbers.
  • A Police Department that would look the other way with detectives torturing suspects to get confessions is the same type of department that would pin the death of a nobody suburban kid at the hand of a clouted mayor’s nephew on the dead suburban kid.
Except no one was looking the other way about torture - it didn't happen. There hasn't ever been a shred of proof that it did. You can't prove a negative, but the media seems to miss that.
  • I see a common thread of a longstanding police culture that allows some of its personnel to operate above or outside the law, fitting the evidence to the desired outcome, and that circles the wagons when someone goes too far or simply slips up.

For all of the emphasis Wednesday on the city finally closing a sad chapter in its history with the creation of the torture reparations fund, I would suggest nothing is behind us until we see that larger picture and address it.
Which no one in the media has ever been willing to do. Who was in charge of hte State's Attorneys office at the time? Oh yeah, Shortshanks. Who approved or disapproved these cases going forward based on evidence presented to them by the detectives? Oh yeah, Shortshanks. Who appointed via a crooked "merit" process and promoted people into positions of power, those who could steer an investigation that touched the royal family of Chicago? Shortshanks again. Do you see where this is leading? Or are you willfully blind once again?
  • Part of that larger picture may be a public that for too long didn’t take the torture allegations seriously, chalking it up as the cost of doing business for police officers battling criminal elements whose welfare was no concern of our own.

That dates back to when this was still a predominantly white city and those suspects were nearly all African-Americans.
You know who else was Black Mark? The fucking victims. The ones who couldn't speak. The ones that cried out from the graves for some sort of justice. Not to mention their family members, those left behind, who had to bury their family members.
  • The mayor deserves credit for the city “owning up to its responsibility” for the Burge torture era that he called a “stain on the history of this city and its reputation.”

But we won’t get the “closure” he seeks until we recognize the stain runs deeper.
You think that maybe some introspection is in order? Maybe a mirror so the media can look at themselves as they report lie after mis-characterization after false construct? The stain on Chicago media runs as deep or deeper than any stain on the city - the media is supposed to be the fourth-estate, the even-handed watchdog, not the lapdog that sniffs its masters ass and licks his hand.

The media is the propaganda arm of the DNC. In Chicago it also has the additional job of propaganda arm and protector of the City Democratic Machine.

Why isn't this asshole asking if the reporters were looking the other way back in the early 80s when this alleged torture was going on?

Did they miss something? Did they have the blinders on? Or were they just not as talented and attentive like our modern reporters? You know, the kind of reporter who has never seen anything but he knows what happened. The kind of reporter who sits on the sidelines then throws stones at cops when he's never been in their shoes. You think you can do a better job Mark then go for it. How the fuck can you point the finger and shout about something when you don't even know what you're shouting about?

Blatant prejudice toward the police and false narratives by people like Brown. Whatever will make him popular with the public is what he'll write, and demonizing the police is the hot ticket for journalists. I'm sure Mark Brown would've handled a guy high on PCP coming at him knife so much easier. Maybe he would've snapped his fingers and the guy would've dropped the knife and they would've hugged each other.

Too bad many chicagoans are naive and gullible enough to believe this shit.

Is this not prejudice? Every other group has lobbyists and organizations who defend them in situations where they are wronged but who lobbies and defends police officers? Are we not allowed that right? Can cops protest? Yes but the media will twist it around saying we are an armed militia in the streets.

Its open season on cops and everybody is against the cops. Could you imagine if any other group or profession were treated like this? Cops have to come up with a solution to combat this. We need to start expressing our outrage and make our voice heard. People like Brown should know that we are displeased with his reporting. Phone calls should be made to his office at least. We should open a discussion on what we can do. We are americans. We have the same rights as anyone else.

There is the reason the the Sun Times and Trib are no bigger than the Home Depot ad. They are no longer credible. They are the 'bought and paid for' media.

The Fourth Estate lost it's battle with the Progressive clan decades ago and are no longer trustworthy. Do your own research. Find the real truth. It only takes a little effort.

Mark brown you should be ashamed of yourself! How can you spread lies like this? Are you owned by the 1% also? Do they tell you what to write? No wonder your paper is going under soon to we can hope! You say you want to have lunch at mannys in the paper how about lunch and some truth telling you can print you know "fair and balanced" the police view on the issue! Now go back home to oak park your suburb and tell all your coffee shop friends what a good liar your are!

Mark Brown doesn't even live in Chicago. He lives in Oak Park. What the hell does he know???Plus, he rarely leaves the downtown Sun-Times office to cover stories as he has intern, fact checkers do it. The only time he leaves the office is to go the Billy Goat or Manny's for liquid lunch or dinner.

At least, the Trib's John Kass gets out onto the streets himself.

Love how must 'victims' in this city always get a $5million settlement, yet the mother of David Koschman who had to go through a hell of a murder cover-up gets tossed $250k to just go away.

SCC, I think you're wrong about Mark Brown on this one.

I think he's more of the type that sniffs the hand and licks the ass.

At least that's what's scrawled out on the bathroom stall where he preforms these tasks for a menial amount of money.

Just another media and city hall attempt to take attention away from the real problems concerning the bankruptcy of the city. While everyone is getting all riled up over this, I would guess that the behind the scenes deals are being made.

FACT CHECK:

1. Anyone else can video record you without your consent
2. Anyone else doesn't need an FOID card but YOU do
3. When weed becomes legal, anyone else can smoke, but YOU cannot
4. Anyone else can get social security for working, but not YOU (and your pension is beginning to look bad)

Sorry, sir, but it almost looks like anyone else has more rights than you!

Don't blame liberalism...it was the civil courts that changed all of that...civil courtrooms, where that kind of behavior was decided by a jury of YOUR PEERS. IF the public didn't cry out against those kinds of tactics, they would still be used on the streets of America today. There are costs $$$ related to doing business like it was in the old days. We all pay those costs. With regard to Burge, we're all still paying.

You do know who Mark Brown's drinking buddy is, don't you? It's Michael Klonsky. Klonsky is a gutless, draft avoiding, and socialist cop hater.

Klonsky's father, Robert Klonsky, a World War II veteran who fought as a volunteer against the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War, had been arrested and convicted of "conspiring to advocate Marxist views" in violation of the Smith Act during the McCarthy period. The Supreme Court later overturned the case.

In the late 1960s Michael Klonsky became the national secretary of the Students for a Democratic Society (later the Weasthermen) which he joined as a student at San Fernando Valley State College (now California State University, Northridge). He was one of five S.D.S. members arrested on May 12, 1969, when prank phone calls sent police and firefighters to the S.D.S. offices in Chicago.[3]

In the 1970s he became a leader of the New Communist Movement which broke with the older Communist Party USA and its allegiance to the Soviet Union. He headed the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist), in which role he was one of the first U.S. political activists to visit the People's Republic of China.[5][6] Klonsky later became critical of Marxist dogma but stayed active in civil rights, anti-war and educational reform politics.

This post was up two days with only 22 comments, so no one really gives a shit about what mark brown writes. 100, 000 hits, 22 comments, many trivial.I was a journalist for 15years before joining cpd. These newspaper people don't have the job security, pay, or future a cop does. They don't get benegits, health care, constitutionally protected pension. Some one brought up Conroy who wrote about burge. When they fired him from the reader, he was making next to nothing! And like all aging journalists, when you leave a job you are fone gor life. Did you think bob greene and rick soll were good? Yes, I did. They were big once. Now they can't make a payment on a root beer float! What did their effort and talent get them? The media is on the outside looking in, they know it. You can't grow old in that business. A lot of these so called journalists end up very bitter and broke. Not a good thing in this day and age. They have a reason to be bitter. The writers went on strike in the late 70s at the trib and sun times. The pressmen and drivers refused to honor their lines, and the paper was printed with a few scab writers and supervisors doing the editorial. That showed everyone how much respect the writers could command, even in their own house.

Anonymous at 10:37, Rick Soll, once a columnist at the Sun-Times and Tribune and once married to Pam Zekman was fired for plagiarism, copying and printing a column, almost word for word that ran in a San Francisco newspaper.

The poorly toupee'd Bob Greene, columnist and author of books like "Good Morning Merry Sunshine" was fired from the Tribune after his dalliance with a high school student he wrote a column on and then became personally involved with.

So what do they have to be bitter about? They got caught, but their troubles were all self inflicted. Boo-fucking hoo!

Mark, the reason that Sergeants were the only officers given Tazers was due to the cost involved. Officers are not allowed to use uniform allowances to equip themselves with one. Officers are also not allowed to equip themselves with weapons capable of discharging bean bags or rubber bullets.
