From the "Duh" File

Something we've broached for years - to the dismay of many readers:
  • Gov. Bruce Rauner, a close friend of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, has suggested mayoral hopeful Jesus “Chuy” Garcia’s relationship with the Chicago Teachers Union ought to be against the law.

Rauner told reporters the Chicago Teachers Union’s support of Garcia’s bid for mayor in the upcoming runoff election in Chicago is an example of an unhealthy relationship between labor and politicians.

“When a government union leader can give significant campaign cash to a politician, and then after they get elected, then negotiate whether it’s their salary or their pensions or the healthcare, it’s a conflict,” Rauner said.

The governor wasn’t exactly singling out Garcia.

“I see that from any politician. I don’t care who they are. If they take government union money, I believe it should be illegal for anyone in elected office to take money from the people that they then contract with, and negotiate pay from. It’s a conflict of interest for the taxpayers,” he said.
Politics is a dirty business. In Chicago, Illinois, it's overly dirty. If you look at it honestly, it's a big problem here, in New York, California, and throughout the Rust Belt.

Known fringe right winger Franklin Delano Roosevelt was totally against government worker unions for this very reason and did all he could to nip them in the bud.

The governor and FDR both had the same theory about government worker unions and their donations to politicians.

This is a load of bullshit. It's a conflict for Garcia to receive money from unions, but it's ok to take money from corporations and (in Rauner's case) oneself?

Duplicitous? Hypocrisy?

What a douchebag. Why can't Illinois have ONE competent person run for office? Whatever, look to joining the fed soon anyway. At least that pension is going nowhere.

Gee, it sounds like his remarks were directed squarely at recent campaign fund contributions made to Rahm Emanuel's war chest.

Rauner is a double barreled jerk It's OK to take campaign contributions from business leaders? Remember the sword cuts both ways. He made millions investing Union pensions, now everyone should have 401ks.

What does RINO Rauner know about Chicago or politics. All he knows is how to bully and buy what he wants and damn anyone in his way.

At least with Karen and Chuy it's pretty much out in the open. If Chuy wins the benefits will go to the general membership of the CTU.

Not like it is with us and FOP and the relationship (deals) Deano and company have with Rahm.

But when a connected contractor can give significant campaign cash to a politician, and then after they get elected, then negotiate BIG projects with big pricetags, or just get "awarded" the contract in a "no-bid" situation -- that's quite OK.

I guess we don't have enough spotlights to cover ALL the areas of corruption ALL of the time, but let's at least be ALL inclusive.

Not a LEO, JAFO

But Rauner didn't call out the fire union supporting his hedge fund homie Rahm ?

Rauner doesn't call out the business community lining Rahms war chest and getting pin stripe patronage contracts ?

But he calls out Karen and the teachers?

Same rules for everyone please.

Fuck you Bruce.

Only you, Rahm, and Ken Griffin get to call the shots?

This country needs a union revival .

Scc, you should seriously reconsider you stand with this thread. You may not like your union leadership, but the potential it has to keep your job is huge. Get involved and when public supports police, police have a better bargaining chip at the table. When politicians make the job difficult by not hiring people on a short staffed dept, you get stressed and overwhelmed. You mention nothing about privet corporations giving millions and lobbying politicians, which is far worse now where super pacs are concerned! Let's stick to unbiased reporting here. Any bias you should have should favor police, not our overpriced governor!

That comes from Bruce a guy worth what 100 Million and change! Agree its wrong, lets see bruce whats going on with police pension, you know the same 1 you PROMISED to make sure we would get our full pensions!

What about businesses donating to politicians that then have influence over awarding contracts to them? How is it at all different? You certainly won't hear Rauner saying the same thing about the private sector and their donations.

UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIP??????
According to WIKI:
After serving as an advisor to Bill Clinton, in 1998 Emanuel resigned from his position in the Clinton administration and joined the investment banking firm Wasserstein Perella, where he worked until 2002.[41] Although he did not have an MBA degree or prior banking experience, he became a managing director at the firm’s Chicago office in 1999, and according to Congressional disclosures, made $16.2 million in his two-and-a-half-years as a banker. At Wasserstein Perella, he worked on eight deals, including the acquisition by Commonwealth Edison of Peco Energy and the purchase by GTCR Golder Rauner of the SecurityLink home security unit from SBC Communications.

GTCR Golder Rauner, (Stanley Golder and Bruce Rauner), the $11 billion private equity firm, based in Chicago, now known as GTCR. GTCR founder Stanley Golder died in 2000 and lead partner Bruce Rauner retired in 2012.

But it's all ok to take money from the corporate elite who then write their own laws to eliminate corporate taxation and put that burden on the working families of Illinois.

Yeah, it's ok to buy a politician so they increase your bottom line through taxing the working class rather than you, eliminating wage and benefit protections from the working class and increasing your bottom line with free tax giveaways and crying how unions "ruin" your business by forcing you to pay a fair wage to your employees, and threatening to take your ball and run somewhere else if you don't get everything you want to make more money.

Of course we all know that giving the corporate elite what they want helps the economy far more than putting wage money back in the hands of taxpayers who actually then go SPEND it in their economy.

Yah, let's stop government middle class taxpayers from improving their lives and keeping the economy running. Let's take that money and hand it over to Rauner's corporate buddies....they'll fix everything.

Like they have in every other right to work for less state. Because all those states are rebounding so much better when only the poor and lower class foot the bill for corporate profit through tax givebacks.

Ask Christie how it's working out for his state over there. Or is his failed corporate tax theft policy putting him in court and sinking their economy as well?

If that's the case, then likewise Rahm or Rauner shouldn't be able to take money from people they contract with: developers, law firms, AT&T, Medline Industries, Inner City Youth Empowerment LLC, etc.

It ought to be illegal to hire people who formerly worked for your hedge fund or for rich buddies. That is a conflict also. It should also be illegal to hire relatives of friends. And drinking expensive wine with politicians from the opposition party? Definitely a hanging offense.

Which Labor Unions are doing work in the City? The Ecomonic Engine - Ohare Airport, Deep Tunnel, Riverfronts, Stadiums, Parks etc, etc, etc.

Rahm is deeply troubled by Garcia.
March Madness is coming and the Pig Squeak is angry.

Dump Rahm in April.

Well Rauner, what about taking campaign cash then giving big contracts and TIF money to the doners like your buddy the loser Rahm does? Isn't that the way of big money? That's politics in Chicago stupid!

You guys need to learn to hate.

Bathing ourselves in hatred for our rulers is the only thing that will help a middle class revival.

Hate Rauner.

Hate Rahm.

Hate the Clintons.

Hate Jeb Bush.

The cocksuckers that run this place need to fear the population. They don't fear us anymore.

The only reasons America was prosperous from 1945 til around 2000 were:

1.) the fact that we won WW2 and our competition was fucked temporarily.

2.) the ruling class was scared shitless after the depression of ending up on the wrong end of a pitch-fork.

Hate these people and their families.

Protip: If Chewie bankrupts the city while lavishing piles of other people's gold on his union friends, the public is going to blame *all* public unions including FOP. The only reason there hasn't been a strong reaction to Detroit, NJ et al is America still has enough pockets of local prosperity that the young and ambitious can be encouraged to move away instead of raising hell, but time is running out. And when it does, things are going to get very, very ugly.

Been saying this for years...

Middle Class America has been guilt-tripped by the Progressives about things like anger, hatred, retribution and having a long memory for righting outrageous wrongs.

If you love your children, teach them how to be angry and how to hate. No matter how squeamish it makes progressives, libtard and catered to constituents.

Teach them how to fight.

Heh...
The progressives and libtards have the catered to constituents to do their fighting for them.
