Both Papers in the Bag for Rahm

Days after the Slum Times endorses Rahm, the Trib does the same:
  • Two weeks ago in this space, we laid out the case for re-electing Mayor Rahm Emanuel. We're back now to remind you why.

We're also here to urge voters to support a strong batch of aldermanic candidates. Some of them will align with Emanuel, some of them will give him fits. Some of them will give us fits from time to time, too. We're backing them because we think they'll build their communities and challenge their colleagues. Chicago will be better for it.

Credit Emanuel for his willingness to say and do what needs to be said and done. You don't score many points with voters by closing underperforming neighborhood schools, passing pension reform bills in Springfield, cutting jobs at City Hall or scrapping tradition-bound, ward-based garbage collection for a more efficient system. But those changes were long overdue, Emanuel did them and more, and he has taken the heat.
That would be the completely unplanned and uncoordinated school closings that led to neighborhoods complaining about kids crossing gang boundaries, giving birth to the ridiculous "Safe Passage" movement paying parents $10-an-hour to watch their own kids. That would also be the pension "reform" bill that got shit-canned at the Illinois Supreme Court. Cutting jobs at City Hall? The Hall seems to be the only place operating at full strength, while police Districts go undermanned, Fire Companies and Paramedics operate shorthanded, potholes go unrepaired, streetlights remain burned out for months, etc. Rahm is tryintoot run the city on the cheap.

Rahm has taken well deserved heat for all of this. But the Trib goes even further:
  • But there has been precious little talk from the challengers about how they would honestly deal with the massive financial problems that face the city and its schools. Where will they find $550 million for police and fire pension funds? Why aren't they screaming that the teachers pension fund and four city worker funds are closing in on $30 billion in unfunded obligations? And what would they do about that?
And Rahm has said.....what exactly? Oh yeah, that he won't put one dime into the pensions until his idea of "reform" is passed in Springfield and survives lord knows how many court challenges. That isn't helping, that's exacerbating the situation. But hey, he isn't touching Trib and Sun Times retirements, so what do they care, even though they endorsed the same people who drove us into bankruptcy for years.

The Trib and Sun Times are actually advocating for a candidate. You youngsters don/t remember the old days when the papers would just put out an endorsement on the opinion page. Now they slap it on the front page: "This is who we want you to vote for"!!!!!

A tiny group telling the masses what to do......and the masses eat it up. It's pathetic, dark days indeed.

Rahm passing "pension reform bills"? Why doesn't he just pay the city's share of pension? There's lots of TIF money that could help balance the fund. Maybe he could use his fundraising prowess to get private donations to the pension fund -- after all, if the pension fund was in such a hole, that would improve our loan ratings, and make us more attractive for businesses to invest in chicago.

The sun times was given $70 million of TIF money to build their printing plant (which they closed and sold for $12 million-can you say $58 million net operating loss and tax write off?). Does anyone under 65 even read the Trib and Sun-Times anymore? The only time I see coppers reading it, is when they get a free one! Control of the Media by a handful of Elitists is rapidly ending due to the Internet. What Rahm fails to realize, like those for whom he worked and lied for in D.C., is that you cannot win a War with Air Power alone. And there are very few boots on the ground in his campaign. Rahm is winning the Air War by buying huge blocks of T.V. time, but there are very few City Workers ringing doorbells for Rahm. Especially in the 40th Ward which included his Congressional District when he was a Congressman. The Flunkies are pushing O'Connor, but they won't even mention Rahm. And here is the irony; Rahm attacks his opponents for the Parking Meter Fiasco and several other issues, but O'Connor also supported those issues and more as a "Boot Lick" for Daley. And by the way; has anyone seen our City's First Lady? How can we name a park after her if she is unseen? Run-Off, Run-Off, Run-Off!"G"

It is probably worth noting that none of the members of the newspaper editorial boards are actual Chicagoans. They commute to and from work and seldom venture out of the city's "Front Yard." They know the Loop, Grant Park, North Michigan Avenue and O'Hare. Other than that they spend their lives in the North suburbs or Du Page and Lake Counties.

Despite the fact that none of these empty suits have no children enrolled at the CPS, they feel content lecturing us on public education. Elected school boards are bad for Chicago, but are the norm where they reside. So from where they are having their coffee, Rahm is doing as well as can be expected.

Local media is manifesting the great fear of the corporate powers that their strangle-hold on municipal governance and the resultant corrosive and crippling influence over how TAXPAYER dollars are collected and spent, will come to an untimely end if the peed-on peons consisting of surviving middle class rabble and the noisy, trying to hang on first responder churls were to wrestle the levers of municipal governance from the decayed-ass muthuhfuckahs (embodied by one Rahm Emanuel) who feel the levers of governance are THEIRS just because they funded Rahm Emanuel to the tune of $30 Million to ensure that the levers and the municipal ledger stay in THEIR hands.

Municipal governance as it currently exists IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE of the people paying the freight.

Anyone illustrating this fact is labelled and targeted to be shamed into silence as "a (Shudder!) conservative," or some other prog-tard Alinskite sourced pejorative term.

They figure Chicago is ripe and theirs for the taking because a corrupt, vengeful little stuttering half wit was tolerated as mayor by the citizenry for 22 years as he facilitated the removal of (low estimate) $12 to $15 Billion from the taxpayer treasury.

Some of that money falling to the same interests hell-bent on keeping Rahm Emanuel in power.

Heh... As we see it?
Police and Fire wages, benefits and pension represent the sum total of mere nickels compared to the municipal dollars that have been and will be stolen/misallocated by Daley Inc. and Rahm & Co.

Bitter irony that the first responders have been cynically painted as the root causative of Chicago's manufactured financial crisis by a pliant and collusive media apparatus moving and acting at the behest of City Hall and it's current corporate owners.

Musings of a "big, strong, heavy-fisted, dumb, old, mean, racist, conservative, must be at least 3rd generation, angry because it isn't 1960 anymore Chicago Cop."

Cue:
The usual commentary by The Joyful Haters and Rahm Loyalists who troll here to monitor "dissent," identify the wild-assed "free thinkers," and plant agit-prop misinformation.

If a blog is so insignificant, why are powers in local, state and federal government and the host of investigative/prosecutorial organizations at each level, along with the media are so on their heads about what it is that a bunch of "dumb" coppers are thinking and saying?

We're sure it can be called "FEAR."

The Police are the enemy...
Viva Hate.
Right?

The Great Correction could very likely begin here in Chicago...

If, if, if. How about, IF something happens, everyone behave with some integrity? IF we write truthful paper and make the arrest, IF prosecution is handled properly, IF the courts mete out fair justice, then everything will be fine.

There comes a point when you can't hold a parent responsible for the actions of their adult offspring. You hold the OFFSPRING responsible for their own actions.

It is the multiplier that Daley and Rahm never adhered to. Every year the City by law pays actuaries to analyze the pension funds and determine how much money is necessary to pay the annuitants, present and future.

They they tell the city what that multiplier should be. Last I heard it was something around 5.3 That means for every $1.00 of employee contributions the City should contribute $5.30

That was around 4 years ago. Daley and Rahm never have given the actuarial recommended amount. They kick in only the statutory minimum. That multiplier is 2. $2 from the City for every $1 from the employee, this is police pension only.

It is underfunding but they do kick in something. Sometimes. The teachers signed off on years of "pension holidays" where the City kicked in nothing. This was in exchange for those fat 7% raises that Daley gave the teachers. It was cheaper than paying pensions, just buy them off with, in ffect, their own pension money. That was when the Teachers Pension fund was at around 115%. It is now below 30% through neglect of Daley and Rahm.

That is the problem now facing Rahm. That ARC law says the City needs to catch up on account of years of neglect. Hence we hear the $600 million figure kicked around.

ARC means Actuarial Required Contribution. So far Rahm has not put a dime aside for that, figuring he will somehow weasel out of it.

As for real estate tax, the average person's tax bill would go up, in total, around 15% - 20% to cover that ARC. Not double like Rahm screams.

The City tax draw might have to double but that will not double the overall tax bill. That is the result of over 25 years of deceit and neglect. Thank Richard M Daley and Rahm Emanuel.

I write on here infrequently, I am not a coppper, I am a fireman. In the mail today came a flyer for Rahm/OConnor.
Residents of 41, has the quality of life gotten better with these two representing you? We have great communities and schools, and NOT because of them. Because we have parents and property owners who give a damn!
Yeah the garbage gets picked up and the streets get a half assed plow, but that happens in Englewood too.
But what have they done for you? Pensions? (Cue crickets...) and if the balloon payment doesnt get paid by some legislative fuckery to defer it to later, it will never get paid and we are truly fucked.
Streets and alleys? They are shit, I have an alley that is more mud than concrete
Parks? No turf for us, let your kids play football and soccer on shit fields.
So what have your elected reps done for those who give so much to the City in blood sweat and tears and also pay a hefty amount of its freight? NOTHING!!
A vote for Rahm is for more of the same, slaps in the mouth and be glad you get the bare minimum.
A vote for Napilitano who is someone who will at least say no to him.
"They" are a bit afraid, so much so that they gerrymandered Nick the Stick out so they can get a Hispanic lackey in that ward. NO to Rahm, NO to OConnor!!

Though I prefer Fioretti, I am going to vote for Garcia, as he has the lead over the other candidates. My motto this year: Anyone But Rham.

That sanctimonious, little maggot needs to be eliminated! Force a run off!!

And I have been saying for years no way would Hillary take him on the ticket because she knows he'd off her, so he could become President by default.
Relax.

Do you remember the original "Omen" movie with little Damien riding his trike and knocking his mother off the top of the staircase? Rahm is the same size.

Dear Friend:

You may be on to something. I have been telling people for years that Rahm being Mayor was just to have it on his resume so he could find a way to become President someday.

The response is usually, "no way would America vote for a Jewish President."

People said the same thing in 1960, "no way would America vote for a Catholic President" ... and then we got JFK.

If Rahm gets elected as Vice-President of the U.S., VERY SOON afterward he will be the actual President.

Rahm ... President of the United States.

God Help Us!

You're wrong. Rahm and the Clinton 's are tight. Hillary runs with rahm as vp, and then rahm runs when she either serves two terms or decides she wants to be a grandma for her remaining years and doesn't run a second time. It's all by design.
