Blame

  • At the groundbreaking for a charter school in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, Gov. Bruce Rauner slammed his predecessor, saying Pat Quinn has left him plenty of work to do.

Asked about how he plans to deal with Illinois’ new medical marijuana law, he described it as a “mess” that Quinn had created and “then ran away from.”

  • Rauner was similarly critical of the budget he inherited from Quinn.

“What Gov. Quinn did was make up some numbers for different departments to get through the election,” Rauner said.

That, Rauner said, was “fundamentally dishonest,” adding, “It’s actually unconstitutional what he did, but he did it.”

Unconstitutional? How about unlawful? How about criminal? How about a Special Grand Jury to start unraveling some of the mountains of bullshit in this bankrupt state and put some of them in jail?

Blame your predecessor. How original...

How does the old joke go?

A fellow had just been hired as the new CEO of a large high tech corporation. The CEO who was stepping down met with him privately and presented him with three numbered envelopes. "Open these if you run up against a problem you don't think you can solve," he said.
Well, things went along pretty smoothly, but six months later, sales took a downturn and he was really catching a lot of heat. About at his wit's end, he remembered the envelopes. He went to his drawer and took out the first envelope. The message read, "Blame your predecessor."

The new CEO called a press conference and tactfully laid the blame at the feet of the previous CEO. Satisfied with his comments, the press -- and Wall Street - responded positively, sales began to pick up and the problem was soon behind him.

About a year later, the company was again experiencing a slight dip in sales, combined with serious product problems. Having learned from his previous experience, the CEO quickly opened the second envelope. The message read, "Reorganize." This he did, and the company quickly rebounded.

After several consecutive profitable quarters, the company once again fell on difficult times. The CEO went to his office, closed the door and opened the third envelope.

The message said, "Prepare three envelopes."

Putting people in jail costs money. It doesn't raise money and it doesn't pay the state's bills.

That, Rauner said, was “fundamentally dishonest,” adding, “It’s actually unconstitutional what he did, but he did it.”

Quinn, like any good criminal essentially had two sets of books; the official budget version and the ones where he told his department heads (paraphrasing), "Spend whatever you want. We'll take care of it after the election (and if I lose, it'll be the next guy's problem!)."

Much like what Daley did to Chicago.

At least he didn't take a page from the Rahm play book. Our new mayor should have squarely put criminal negligence on the past administration. He failed miserably in not doing that. Now he wears the jacket. How does it feel.

Well, yes, unlawful and all that. But persecuting your predecessor is a sure path for your predecessor to do the same to you, when you leave office.

The corruption never stops, the politicians own the judges and the courts, its all about the money, bruce will be the same quinn and the crew along with city hall should be on the federal bus lets see who gets the front seat! When you look at alderman colon dead to rights drunk on video from ISP and then not guilty, but rahm says cameras are great, unless you got clout then the cameras are not good and your found not guilty! You have to wonder how many are in jail due to negligence of being found "guilty!"

It gets worse by the minute for honest taxpaying law abiding citizens!!

At least the USA out of Manhattan had the balls to indict the Speaker of the Assembly ( who has as much clout as Madigan)

Pity we do not have a USA that can do the same for us.

I'm sure Rauner, the billionaire, really cares that someone might critique him after he leaves office.

And, did you ever think, if someone simply does a good job in office, there's nothing to fear in your successor's analysis of your job performance?

If we could just use the standard of the generally accepted accounting principles and quarterly filings deadlines for government just like private has to adhere to. The public checkbooks should be online for public inspection. Remember that FDIC's Check 21 Act which made your personal checks and personal financial dealings available on the internet? Lets have all the public bureaucracies and assorted government entities publish their checks, open up their books wide and reveal those associated banking routing numbers making them available for public review and inspection in a kinda sorta transparency thing.

And how about that accountability much like the private sector adheres to and complies to as required in the Sarbane Oxley Act. Government writes laws for others, but seems to exempt themselves from the very laws and standards they hold non-government entities to. Lots of criminal penalties and associated accountability for violations by the non-government types. If the state, Cook County and the City of Chicago were corporations, their financial wrongdoings would amount to a Mount Everest Mountain making the Enron scandal look like an anthill.

When will somebody (bodies) go to jail for this...bankrupting the city and the state? How can it be that no one has been indicted? Years have past, the economy is getting better and Chicago and Illinois are still in a state of disaster financially. Where is the Attorney General on this one?

OT:
So...Jesse Jackson tossed out an embarrassing curve ball, at Ernie Banks funeral today, to the Cubs and to Ron Santo's family (Ron's son was a Pallbearer for Ernie and in the audience listening to Jesse). He told how Ernie couldn't speak at Ron's funeral memorial cause they were out of time and Ernie was disappointed. So Jesse told Ernie there would be a statue made for him. Then Jesse went to the Cubs and the Tribune to see if the order could proceed. You know the rest.

Who are you, Quinn's mom? Sure it's the other guys fault and they weren't idiots, they were criminals.

It's January. Give him time to implement a few solutions before you start the name calling. Walker did it in Wisconsin and they weren't nearly as screwed up as we are.

I really hope he is up for the challenge. Illinois is the biggest mess in all the 50 states. More people need to go to jail here or it won't stop.

It is not an original tactic by Rauner, but it is undeniable that Quinn was so focused on his reelection that he did everything in his power to disguise the sorry condition of Illinois government under his watch. If Quinn acted honestly, he would have lost 80-20.

Solutions, he has none. Shouldn't he at least had one before deciding to run? He's just like Shields ride in on a victory promising the world then spend your whole term blaming everything on the past administration and then accomplish nothing. This is a hobby for him. He's mega rich and has nothing to gain from this other than to say look what I bought a Governorship.

The report revealed that so far, Rauner’s top staff will make nearly 36 percent more than equivalent staffers under former Gov. Pat Quinn. His chief of staff is on pace to earn $180,000 a year and other top deputies are far north of $100,000.
