Hey, Look!

  • TARRANT, Alabama - Helen Johnson stared in amazement at the piles of food accumulating in her small Tarrant apartment on Wednesday.

"The last time I saw my house this full, I was 12-years-old and staying with my grandmother,'' said the 47-year-old mother and grandmother. "I've been crying all day."

On Wednesday, Tarrant police delivered two truckloads of groceries to the woman, who on Saturday was caught stealing five eggs from the nearby Dollar General. Instead of arresting Johnson, Tarrant Police Officer William Stacy bought her a carton of eggs and sent her home with the promise to never shoplift again.

That in itself, Johnson said, was a blessing. But those blessings now seem to have taken on a life of their own. Tarrant police said they've received calls from across the United States and world since hearing of Johnson's plight. People have offered food, money and clothing.
Golly. If this keeps up, what's going to be left to protest? People (and folks) might actually have to get jobs to fill their days and contribute to society.

Glad to see a police officer getting GOOD publicity for doing good. They do good more often than is known.

A nice gesture to be certain. But the only thing this shoplifting criminal ought to have been given is a pair of handcuffs to wear on the way to the station.

Now what we have here is someone who I'll be VERY surprised doesn't turn out to be the usual sad pitiful case that gets donations and then turns into a piece of shit.

How about something a little more lasting.

Job training and then a job that has a future.

My husband and I live in downtown Chicago, and we've made it a personal mission whenever we can during the past 2 months to stop a policeperson and thank them for their service. And to let them know not everyone thinks that they are the bad guys.

It's been very rewarding to do this for us because we get to speak to some lovely people, who just light up with smiles, and we have also heard some wonderful stories about kind acts that the police have performed for the public that most people will never hear about. One saga was a cop who stopped to help a drunk man who had passed out in the street at the corner at Balboa and Mich. Ave. A citizen was trying to drag him out of the street, and the cop pulled over his cruiser, helped the drunken man into it, and then drove him home (on the south side). The man had been buying food to take home, and had stopped to have a little brandy. His wheelchair-bound brother came out of their home and hugged the cop, he was so grateful to have his brother, and their food, home safely. Good work Officer. Thanks again.

You're out of towners, aren't you? That intersection would be Michigan and Balbo, not Balboa, and we don't say 'cruisers'. Nope, not ever.
But thanks for the smile.

I too took the time to stop and help drunken men lying on the curb in my district. I passed on my partner's suggestion to call the wagon. I took the 1st guy to his small cheap apartment near Granville and Kenmore. The second guy was passed out in his running car on Howard St near Ashland. I turned off the engine, locked and secured his car and drove him home.

In both instances both of my drunk guys thanked me by going to the police station in the morning and lodging a complaint that I stole their wallet and all their money and ID's. My veteran partner laughed at me.

The moral of the story is I never ever did that for the next 26 years of my police career. I learned that if I extended my hand to help some drunken mope it was likely the mope would take a shit in my hand.

I am retired after 34 yoj. I wish I had a dime everytime a copper went out of his/her way to help the citizens and tourists of this city. I would be living on the Atlantic in Palm Beach.
Now after all the shit thrown at all members of LE, fuck everybody and let the mutts whack each other and starve.
We as a group do more for these ungratful minions then any BS church or org ! That BS after school matters and its founder is the joke of the century. Maggie hated the police and was the head of the crime family after old man Daley bought the farm.
Maggie is in eternal darkness because of her hateful ways and moved around more cash for the crook family then Brinks does in downtown Chicago.
These crooks sold so much that they have an ubder ground bunker !

Really sorry that happened. Jeez, usually they wake up and head straight for the 7AM joint and lodge a hair of the dog.

A__holes.

In another case, guy's had waaay too much to drink and develops extreme stomach pain. Flags beat car, ofc. tosses the spare beer out of guy's back pocket and drives him over to hospital. Gastritis. Guy gets chewed out by doctor, stays a couple of days, and not too much later goes for help and stays sober for 30 years subsequently.

So you never know. The good Lord saw and appreciated what you did even if those idiots didn't.

God bless & stay safe always.

You're right of course. You never know when something you do or say will have a positive effect on somebody. Going the other way, you screw somebody and they will likely remember it for a long long time.
