McHenry Shooter in Custody

Did he just snap?
  • A man accused of shooting two McHenry County Sheriff deputies was found a few miles away from his home, walking along a road, after two people called police to report a suspicious person.

  • The incident began after the suspect’s wife had called a friend in Michigan. That friend called the McHenry County sheriff’s office, asking that someone check on the well-being of the wife early Thursday.

According to Nygren, Peters, who has military experience, fired a rifle through the door of the home, opened the door and continued firing, hitting a female deputy in the leg and striking a male deputy in the leg and abdomen.
Coppers are stabilized, but a long recovery ahead of them:
  • The male officer — a seven-year veteran of the McHenry County Sheriff’s office — was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was listed in “stable but critical” condition, police said. The female deputy, a 12-year veteran, was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry, authorities said. Her condition had stabilized.
Best wishes to the wounded.

This is what happens when you call the sheriff's office to check on your friend. Next time send a friend over to check on her or tell her not to marry someone who she can't get along with. You could have been involved in the murder of 2 cops because you were worried about something that was none of your business.

People love knocking cops and talking bad about cops but they sure don't mind calling the cops.
How many 911 calls a day does CPD get called out to? Over 17,000?

Isn't that your job? If you can't hack it, get an office job.

They don't knock cops in general (although some idiots hate cops no matter what), but the one's who make those who work that job look bad. Don't act like they're all heroes, because there are plenty on the job the coppers know shouldn't carry a badge, and they won't work with them either. Props to the real police, and not just the ones doing it to tell others that they're the police. Plenty of those as well.

Stupid. Could have come to the door and talked out whatever the hassle was. Maybe info could have been gotten, agreement could have been reached, "Have a good day, Sir," and the coppers drive away. Instead, this idiocy, and you shatter two other lives as well as your own and those of your own wife and kids. You just went through a steel door that doesn't have a handle on your side.

Prisons are full of people who have the next fifty years to wish to hell they'd just gone to sleep in front of the TV with a six-pack that night.

God-damned fool. Prayers and best wishes for the injured officers.

Have no idea what "military experience" has to do with anything, unless it's "veterans are bad", just like "guns are bad".

-------------------------------------

Or, conversely, they could have been involved in the murder of the friend they sent to check on them.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. In the end, domestic disputes are the province of the police, and the reason they are is because they can turn violent in a heartbeat.

That's what the police are there for, keeping the peace, or restoring it if its been breached by domestic strife, or any other kind of strife.

Yes. The shooter was a veteran but he also went AWOL twice. Remember, not all veterans are heros. Just to name two who were not, Hitler and Oswald.

Charles Joseph Whitman, former Marine, killed 16 including a police officer, wounded 32 in Austin, Texas, 1966, on the University of Texas campus. Also killed his wife and mother at their homes. An autopsy found a brain tumor. He had been taking dexedrine pills "like popcorn."

Who gives a fuck if he was former military. What does that mean, that he's some sort of super ninja warrior? Doesn't the military have any cooks, truck drivers, clothes washers? IIRC, only about ten percent of the military in Afghanistan or Iraq actually served in a combat unit.
