Illinois Sucks

  • SPRINGFIELD -- A new subpoena seeking records about Gov. Pat Quinn's botched 2010 anti-violence program has been issued, this time from a federal grand jury based in Chicago.

The request marks the first subpoena issued by Chicago-based federal authorities in the probe into Quinn's $54.5 million Neighborhood Recovery Initiative. Numerous prior subpoenas had come from federal authorities in Springfield.

The federal grand jury in Springfield has subpoenaed emails from the governor's former chief of staff, Jack Lavin, and several others heavily involved in implementing the program.
  • The next time you complain about taxes in Illinois, take some comfort in knowing your complaining is justified — at least according to a new report on the fairness of tax systems across the U.S.

The study from Wallethub focused on federal tax policy and analyzed and ranked each state based on the fairness of its state and local tax system, which included income taxes, property taxes and sales and excise taxes.

Where does Illinois fall? No. 47. Arkansas, Hawaii and Washington are the only states with more unfair tax structures.
  • Among the many metrics that show Obama's home state is struggling to break the Great Recession, a new report shows that applications for food stamps in Illinois is greater than its creation of jobs.

Illinois has had the worst recovery from the recession of any state in the country, the Illinois Policy Institute reported this month "There are nearly 300,000 fewer Illinoisans working today than in January 2008, and 170,000 fewer payroll jobs. "

"For every post-recession job created in Illinois, nearly two people have enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps," the Institute wrote. “In the recession era, the number of Illinoisans dependent on food stamps has risen by 745,000."
And democrats still hold a lead in every major political race this year?

---------------------------------

No-no don't look at that. Look over here we're creating jobs!!

Never-you-mind that other peoples hours are being cut and those people now qualify for food stamps in order to create this job illusion.

Words conjure up images and for many when you say a job is created the image is one of being self sufficient. That is no longer the case. A job doesn't mean what you think it does anymore.

BTW, The Illinois tax revenue monthly report for this Aug (FY 2015) IS in.

Guess what?

Income tax revenue is DOWN vs 2014.

Personal, Corporate, Motor Fuel, Utility taxes, take your pick.

Sales tax is up but why?

Maybe the cost of all your groceries that has something to do with it eh? Also how many local jurisdictions in Illinois just jiggered the sales tax rates. Look it up!

http://tax.illinois.gov/aboutidor/taxresearch/AugustFY2015RevenueReport.pdf

All this job propaganda and no tax revenue growth. Why look!! Look at the BLS data on all the jobs illinois created over the last year.

http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/SMS17000000000000001?data_tool=XGtable

Jul 2013 5788.9 (thousands)
Jul 2014 5824.5

What is that ...35,600 non-farm payroll jobs? And income tax revenue is down but don't look at that either.

I want Quinn, Rahm, and the rest of the big-government-as-religion corruptocrat cultists to keep winning. I want their victories to continue to show large majorities paving their way unopposed. Rule-by-edict, violate laws, get caught squandering, hiding, or blatantly "allocating" funds by questionable means...

It motivates me to have a clear focus and a mission in life, and to plan as I have never planned- to leave this disgusting, criminal haven and sorry excuse for a state in this great nation. The bright side is this: They don't fool you. They wear it plain as day and your fellow Illinois residents swallow willingly. Let the takers have it.

The reality?

Woman who worked in four jobs, overcome by fumes, dies as she naps in car

updated August 27, 2014 at 9:52 AM

"ELIZABETH, N.J. — Maria Fernandes worked four jobs, including shifts at two different Dunkin Donuts.

"Often she drove from job to job, stopping along the road to catch a couple hours sleep, police said. She kept a container of gasoline in her 2001 Kia Sportage because occasionally she ran out of gas, authorities said.

"Early Monday, the 32-year-old Newark woman pulled into a lot off Route 1 & 9 in Elizabeth for a nap. She apparently left the car running and was overcome by carbon monoxide mixed with fumes from the gas can that had overturned, police said. Fernandes was found dead in the car about eight hours later.

"This sounds like someone who tried desperately to work and make ends meet, and met with a tragic accident," Elizabeth police Lt. Daniel Saulnier said.

Mmm. How did "figures" or "statistics" or "information" get replaced overnight by the word "metrics?" Sounds real snappy, doesn't mean anything new.

A society with no production, no creation of wealth, and no metaphysical basis has to scratch along on little word games.

Think I'll go take a "selfie."

(Is that like a "personal?")

What you have to like where your tax money is being spent.

How about those bike lanes that took up a lane that used to be used for traffic. So we can sit at a red light three times while I watch a biker use this lane maybe once every other week.

And why do we have these bike lanes in the winter. Guess there must have been a sudden decrease in traffic to diminish all these lanes.

And the cost for this could have been another step to supply money into pensions!

Thanks for wasting our tax dollars!!!

Yes the democrats are leading all state races and I guess Quinn ( potatoe head) will be in office for a few more years. The voters will get what they want, higher taxes. Quinn is hammering Rauner for even mentioning that he is open to taxing pensions. However, that would take an amendment to the state constitution, something only the legislature can do. The democrats have been talking up a sliding state income tax for two years now and that would include taxing pensions and social security. I think it is coming and will be on the front burner after Quinn wins this fall. The democratic scare tactics and class warfare are winning. Rauner is an honest man, wealthy so he does not need deals for cash. He is our one chance to save this state. He would expose all of the Springfield back room deals.

Chicago is broke , finds money to put air conditioning in schools , Chicago is not Arizona .
No money for more police officers or health insurance for retirees .
Who said every person will see their health insurance go down $2500 a year ?
Time to hope for change .

Hell, a quick look at that poll by anyone with a working brain can see its meaningless, that Cali-fucking-fornia is a "Fair State" regarding its taxes. Really?!? People and businesses are fleeing there in droves because of the insane taxes. So who the fuck are they trying to kid?

Stop bitching about the bike lanes. They are here to stay and so are us riders. We ride and use the lanes year round and you know it. We are reducing overall traffic loads when we choose to bike instead of drive, if we are among those who have that luxury, and while many of us behave very badly on the road, not all of us do. We would like to simply co-exist.

Good luck with the tiny BULLSHIT cost of living increases..

Looks like the first year increase is already wiped out by inflation.

WE'RE BEHIND THE CURVE MY FRIENDS!

This just in...

New Record: Pound of Ground Beef Tops $4 for First Time

(CNSNews.com) – Although the overall Consumer Price Index dropped by 0.2 percent in August, the price index for food rose 0.2 percent, with the average price for a pound of ground beef rising to $4.013 per pound--the first time it has ever topped $4 per pound.

In July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price for a pound of ground beef had been $3.884 per pound—which was the record price up to that point. From July to August, the average price jumped 12.9 cents, an increase of 3.3 percent in one month.

A year ago, in August 2013, the average price for a pound of ground beef was $3.454 per pound. Since then, it has climbed 55.9 cents--or about 16.2 percent.

Just five years ago, in August 2009, the average price for a pound of ground beef was $2.134, according to the BLS. The price has since climbed by $1.879 per pound—or 88.1 percent.

***

The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs rose 1.5 percent in August, the largest increase among the groups. The index for beef and veal rose 4.2 percent, its largest increase since November 2003.”

Beware the ADJUSTED consumer price index that tells us cost of living is only up 0.2%

Wait til it starts effecting your pensions and benefits. Then you'll wise up. BUT THEN, it will be too late.

Only idiots and those on all the freebie programs vote for Quinn. If you are working, and still think he is good for you - VOTE FOR HIM. And kiss your pensions goodbye.

Rauner won't be the guy to mess up your pensions.

ALL the long-term Democrats will have sucked the money out long before it winds up in Federal Bankruptcy court where you (or your FOP representative) can wait in line with all the other creditors to get your 10 cents on the dollar settlement.

You thought it would be a $72,000 pension - try $7,200 a year.

You're right; not all of you blow through stop signs and red lights (even at six way intersections). Not all of you ride the wrong way up one-way streets and give the finger to the motorist traveling properly on that street. Nope; not all of you text while operating a bicycle on ridiculously congested Milwaukee Avenue and not all of you ride in traffic lanes NEXT TO the bike lane 'because you can'. Not all of you hop onto the sidewalk when it suits you and terrify pedestrians.
But ENOUGH of you do to make us hate you. And before YOU threaten me, 3, 2, 1... I ride. I just don't ride anymore on Chicago streets, because so many of you make it too dangerous even for fellow bike riders.

No, no one would threaten you. But, in my opinion anyone who rides a bike on busy urban streets, especially at night, has a death wish. SUVs, cell phone use, conversations and just about everything else going on the these vehicles and they do not see the bike riders. And, I am not even mentioning the drugged and drunk drivers and there are plenty of them.Throw in the bike riders who are out at night without lights or who run red lights and stop signs, well, go figure.
