Relax, the Feds are Here

  • Seven additional agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosives will be sent to Chicago to help combat the city’s violence.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced plans Thursday to send additional agents to the city following his recent visit, where he participated in a roundtable discussion with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The new ATF agents will coordinate efforts with U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon as well as federal, state and local law enforcement and community partnerships to reduce illegal gun trafficking and gun crime, according to a release from the Department of Justice.
Seven! Count 'em, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 additional ATF agents! We certainly hope there's enough office space for them all and they're able to find a locker for their stuff..

youre actually looking at it wrong. Yes its only 7 agents but they will put two agents from ATF with a Team of CPD/County already operating. So in reality, its more like creating three more teams to do federal work eg. wires, long term investigations and conspiracy cases. I have no doubt the 7th is the "paper work" guy and the go between who will be working directly with the US attorneys office. Its not alot but its three potentially bigger cases that will be getting worked on that may.. or may not net a decent amount of heads in federal court. Im not a fan of the feds, especially the FBI and the DEA but I have found the guys at ATF are good and easiest to work with. DEA agents are the worst to work with and the FBI just dont know what they are doing and pretend they know it all.

I say give these seven to the Justice Department to help out investigating the "phony" scandals that DC only hears about in the news. How many hard drives can really crash in a day by numerous agencies.....??

My father escaped from a communist country. He used to tell me stories about how the communists would push their propaganda and that it would be so ridiculous that people would just laugh at it.

They would then get news that the political elite were coming to visit, so they had to get the town ready. Of course the town was a wreck, so they would paint the front of the buildings so that when the communist royalty drove past, everything looked new.

Welcome to your new America. Same as the old commie system. Enjoy it, because you voted for it or were too lazy to vote at all and let the savage third world vote beat you.

New Law Requires Police Departments To Provide Bulletproof Vests

"Police departments across Illinois will have to provide bulletproof vests for their officers, and government agencies will be required to apply for federal aid to help pay the costs under a new bill signed into law this week.

The Law Enforcement Officer Bulletproof Vest Act was designed both to make sure police officers statewide are getting the protection they need and to make sure local governments are seeking help to pay for the vests, according to State Sen. Tony Munoz, D-Chicago, a sponsor."

Be happy, ATF are the elite investigators of federal law enforcement. CPD can stand back and observe how the best of the best bring violent and gun related crime to a rapid halt. In the past four or five years working on our southern border, ATF has made the border completely safe and secure. No less than Sen. Reid has recently said so.

More money thrown at the non taxpaying ghetto ? It wont work to stop the violence.

There are only 2 things that could stop the violence:

1. Cut the police loose (stop and frisk)

2. Cut off welfare benefits for families of people who commit violent crimes.

- I also say NO to the National Guard because I don't want to have to pay for that with my hard earned tax dollars.

If you value your hide, freedom and finances, let the Feds rub up against the armed wing of Dude Inc. by themselves.

Don't get involved with them... You can be right as rain and still get cooked in a federal jackpot.

Remember... Street Police have split seconds to mitigate a situation gone way off the rails.

Feds have 20, 30 or more years and a bottomless budget to determine if they're ok with what the Street Police did to go home in one piece/ make a shit situation smell not quite so funky.

They really have no clue what to do OR they, the Obama Administration, want this chaos. I really think it's the latter.

Previously posted in another thread by other posters, what's needed is manpower, rapid-response and old school wood shampoo policing.

The fastest way to get there is the National Guard gives up 300-500 men and however many C-130's or Huey's it takes to get them anywhere in the city in minutes.

Once the situation is stabilized and CPD can get there NatGuard goes back to the NatCave.

You start by financing it by reducing certain line item amounts for welfare from the communities where the trouble makers are from. That'll get those snitch boxes flowing over (where ever they are).

Rank-and-File, there are many good men and women at the ATF.

Administratively and in D.C...not so much.

If it wasn't for a number of patriots at the ATF sacrificing their careers, Fast & Furious, the asinine program Obama reconstituted from the failed and discontinued "Linebacker" program the Bush Administration -- stopped -- due to its colossal failure, F&F would have never been brought to light.

I don't see how 7 ATF agents are going to influence much street violence or gang bangers access to weapons. But, if they can contribute anything useful, well, this city needs all the help it can get.

-Citizen

Sadly, you are probably correct. This new wave of Feds from ATF will only result in more notifications being made from OUR crime fighters to THEIR pencil pushers and possibly additional federal charges being placed on a couple of desperadoes, but no additional arrests or weapon confiscations in the short term.

Unfortunately, any worthwhile fed investigations into conspiracies etc. take years to complete and don't really result in any violence reduction at all. While the Feds move at a snail's pace, Chicago's murder rate is rocketing along at lightning speed, so for any group of 10 or 20 conspirators that the Feds take of the streets, they are replaced tenfold before the first case gets to trial.

Any help is welcomed but this, so far, seems more like PR than any tangible/credible help.

They will make 100 arrests.

Of those cases, 30 will go federal, but the cherrypicking US Atty will only prosecute 2 and sent them to Club Fed, until Holder lets them out on early release.

The remaining 28 of those 30, along with the other remaining 70 will go to the Crook Co. SAO, which will dump 50 of them by "diverting" them to "drug court" or deny charges altogether.

Other than 5 remaining cases, the others will be pled down to misdemeanors.

The last 5 will go to DOC, but will be freed under Quinn's early release program after 61 days.

Will likely do the typical Fed thing, blow into town with media acclaim, work up some regular street cases until they find something big (media worthy). Hopefully it will be genuine gun runner(s) but some firearms collector will also do, as long as there's enough guns for a good photo op. Mission accomplished - adios Chicago. Forget the reality of crime running rampant and overwhelmingly concentrated in the same demographics, in a permanent underclass of economic, cultural, and political dysfunction which is supported by our government through decades of failed programs and liberal policies.

What this city needs is a dose of "Mcarthyism" (as in "Patrolman Joe" McCarthy) and not seven ATF agents. What that entails is:
1) hire a sh!tload of new coppers
2) order all exempts and IAD to forget about piddly-ass minor violations
3) cut loose your officers - stop and frisk, take back the street by locking up every loitering POS for any minor violation. This includes vigorously enforcing the curfew ordinances and even the bullshit gang-loitering ordinance. Rush through the City Council another BS Disorderly Conduct ordinance and use it. It will be years before it is thrown out as unconstitutional again.
4) Flood the courts and say it loud and clear in the press that the CPD is doing it's job and the courts better do theirs.
5) Back up your officers, to the press, citizens, and especially IAD and whatever civilian review board is the flavor of the month.
After about a year of this it will maybe start to get better.

Hey here's an idea for the ATF: ........

----- Set up an undercover Gun Sting, selling rifles and handguns which they've done ballistics on to gang-bangers across the city. Then they track where the guns are eventually distributed by comparing the ballistics on bullets subsequently recovered in shootings.

Granted this won't stop any shootings or killings, nor will it help in finding whose doing most of the killings --- hey, nothing is perfect --- BUT!...here's the good part; the ATF will know where the guns wound up, like which gang, and in what part of city.

And for the 24+% of homicides that are cleared, the ATF will have the shooter too. Neat, huh! The ATF can call this undercover op something cool, like: 'Fast & Furious' or 'Gun Walker'.

Oh...wait???? Uh....never mind.

I would not say laughable, as something is better then nothing. The feds have a lot more resources then local police and tough laws. They can make a dent in the gun straw buyers. But, the real test is what the federal courts do with this traffickers. Plus, it is easier for the feds to wire taps and aerial surveillance. Don't laugh as of yet.

Panel to vote on early release for drug felons
July 18, 2014 18:07 GMT

Eds: APNewsNow. Updates with details from commission vote; will be updated. Adds photo. AP Photo. With AP Photos. By ERIC TUCKER Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tens of thousands of federal drug inmates may be eligible for early release under a proposal adopted by the U.S. Sentencing Commission.

The panel voted unanimously Friday to make sentencing guideline changes approved earlier this year retroactive to apply to many inmates who are currently in prison.

The commission says more than 46,000 inmates could benefit, with an average sentence of reduction of 25 months. The change would cover defendants sentenced for all drug types, including cocaine and methamphetamine.

The commission is an independent panel that sets sentencing policy. The earliest a prisoner could be released is in November 2015.

Prisoner advocacy groups support the proposal, while some judges and federal prosecutors are opposed.

NEVER trust a Fed.

Rahm is a former Fed as Whitehouse Chief of Staff.

I think those extra ATF Agents will not be here to attack the GUN VIOLENCE problem in Chicago because it is a GANG VIOLENCE problem in Chi-rag.

Those ATF Agents will trying to implement Operation Chokepoint; that is the Justice Department attempt to cutoff of bank services and loans to legitimate gun stores and overburdening them with paperwork. They will try to keep that new gun store in Niles from opening and keep as many Illinois citizens from getting their CCW permits.

Will they provide the CPD with any usable Intel on the gun and gangs, I think not. But if any CPD units make any good seizures of weapons I think they will step right up and claim the credit.

These days they wouldn't get to be exempt bosses unless they were psychopaths. Just like Rahm and Gary. At least many of the Old School Bosses I had the privilege to work with were great human beings and taught me a lot.

There not operators !! Just agents , swat guys are usually refered to as operators , as well as special forces guys . It would be like referring regular sailors as seals

First of all, I am proud of the CPD SWAT. They have made significant improvements over the old HBT. They have also acted heroically on numerous occasions in recent years. I believe they are an elite police unit, but there is no comparison with SWAT and US Special Operations. The only people to refer to SWAT guys as operators, are SWAT guys. You wil never hear a military Special Operations operator refer to SWAT in that way. So stop comparing yourselves to elite military units, who fight on a daily basis.

Remember, if they ever knock on your door or pull you in to answer questions, you do not have to talk to them, especially without a lawyer. But if you do talk to them, do not lie. They usually know the answers before they ask you questions. Lying to a Fed is where they jam coppers up. Never lie to them. I often have a laugh about how special federal agents feel about themselves. I worked with them for many years and in fact, still do on a part time basis. Most of them are great people and try to do a great job. The ATF officers are the best, FBI the worst and most arrogant. I can tell you story upon story on the mess-ups of the FBI agents. The former city cops who are agents are the best. Yes, law enforcement in general is often the cause of really great screw ups, so don't just point fingers at city cops. Remember the time the ATF agent was giving a lecture to a classroom of kids and shot himself in the leg? that video is still around.

To the copper complaining about parking in 019th district. How would you like to come to work and there is no parking because drunking coppers take the parking provided for the on duty officers? Listen you fucking cheapskate, pay for your parking just like everyone else. Whether your going to the looser cubs game, Billy Joe concert, (are you kidding) or just going to sneak over to Halsted, and play a little pinch and tickle, pay like everyone else rather inconvenience officers going to work. Just so you know the entire garage is camera 'd up and last week for what ever reason the upstairs people pulled some pretty good color high definition video of the garage, Your not welcome taking our spots while we are working, fucking crybaby.

I’ve have worked in concert with agents from many of the different Federal LE agencies over the years on several occasions. In brief, here are my impressions:

FBI – Outstanding resources, seemingly endless supply of $. The technical divisions (bomb squad, crime scene, fingerprint) are the best in the world. Field agents and their supervisors are nothing more than well-trained robots and are discouraged, no…not allowed, to think for themselves. If it ain’t in the manual they have no clue what to do. They cover their lack of knowledge and experience with arrogance. If there is a press conference around they will be front and center.

ATF – generally hard working and intelligent but handcuffed by the US Attorney and their supervisors. Will work with you but if push comes to shove they will act like they never met you.

Secret Service – Initial impressions were that of an efficient, well trained, and disciplined organization. Then within hours I learned they were just the opposite.

US Marshals – Nothing but good to say here. Would do anything asked of them. Know their shit and can think for themselves.

Since the Feds are here, maybe they can look into the red light scamera program, where thousands, yes, thousands of undeserved tickets were given out to Chicagoans. Why? Rahmhole needed money, for what? A new tutu? Who knows?

A huge segment of ATFs firearm trafficking cases are pathetic; a total embarrassment.

Otherwise law abiding gun owners selling lawfully owned firearms or 'incited' to sell a fiream to a CI, then arrested and trumped as a great stride in 'stopping gun violence'.

They also target industry entities, they're just totally dysfunctional; the IRS of Federal Law Enforcement. The 7 agents will have plenty to do in Chicago on legit cases but beware of them in general. Their overall view is that gun owners are the 'them', they are the 'us' and it's their job to fuck 'them' however they can.

...If I can't take care of coppers they can kiss my ass.

The way I was raised. Whatever it took. Never, ever tagged a P/O and there were certainly a special few that more than deserved it.

And as a suggestion-don't go to Ravinia...if you respectfully ask the coppers up by Ravinia for a possible parking spot instead of having to take the buses from off sight (miles away) parking lots, they'll look at you as a criminal...

Actually only #2 will work. As soon as junior hits the Audy home the checks should stop. As soon as crazy cousin hits 26th st. the checks for his/her SSI and/or any other disability should stop. If your family member is in custody they don't need the income, because the County is taking care of them. We all know the supposed recipients of those "benefits" are not benefiting from those benefits. Finally, if your child(ren) are in custody the welfare check should be reduced to reflect the current number of your dependents.

You rather pay a little money with the National Guard, than to keep letting Rahm trick you and take whats left in the City.
