Officer Will Recover, but...

  • Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said he knows the injured officer personally. The veteran was shot in the left bicep, McCarthy said.

“He’s OK,” McCarthy told reporters late Monday morning. “He’s in a lot of pain.”

The officer, assigned to the downtown “entertainment detail,” was just getting off his shift when he saw a man trying to break into a construction site close to the officer’s home, McCarthy said, confirming other reports that the man was armed with a screwdriver.

“It’s not clear how [the officer] got shot,” McCarthy said. “Whether the gun got taken away from him and he got it back, or whether or not it discharged while he was fighting with him.”

The officer may have suffered some permanent damage, McCarthy said.

“He may have some long-term problems with that,” McCarthy said. “But he’s in good spirits in the hospital. He’s obviously upset about the incident and having to take somebody’s life.”
"long-term problems" is never good news. Hopefully, the miracle workers at rehab can get the officer up and running well enough to qualify and serve out his career. Everyone is certainly thankful it wasn't worse, but a long road ahead for our brother officer. Best wishes and good luck.

If its not clear how the officer got shot then why are you saying that it may have been taken away from him or he might have shot himself? Just say its not clear and thats it.

Prayers to the officer and his family.

As for the POS, when he chose to fight the officer death was a possibility that would face him. He lost. One less POS in the world. The Gene Pool is better for it.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Unfortunately, Off Duty.
365 days Medical
365 days Limited Duty
That's the "ladner Rule" that the FOP lost in court (under Mikey Shields watch)
Only exceptions are IOD and Military Injuries.

Unless, McCarthy is going to make another exception and included,on the way to and from work.
We'll have to see how this plays out in that regard.
Speedy recovery to the officer.

Much of what we do affects us in many ways for the rest of our lives. This is why we have EARNED the pensions that politicians so badly want to take away from us!

I wonder how McBarstool would know a copper who works the entertainment district personally??
Could it be that's because that whole entertainment district is McBarstool's playground and home away from home?

No wonder McCarthy knows him personally, he is on the bar detail. He has probably had to get McFuzzMouth a ride home a time or two.

Sadly, unless the officer has good luck, he will have to fight for his medical treatment.
People don't know how badly some of the injured are treated by the politicians.

Pretty easy to clear up. Interview the officer. Hopefully he was lucky because the news ws reporting it was a trough and through arm wound.

A few thoughts:
Take your time healing.

Can McMoron never learn to shut his trap? How about "the investigation continues at this time, and the thoughts and prayers of the department are with him".

The copper is one of the most physically in shape and tough coppers on the job. As someone posted earlier, ask former bear Tank Johnson. He's a great guy and A very quiet low key person. Best wishes on a full recovery

Vince Vaugn can give him one of his pep speeches w/Owen Wilson and the day will be saved! Just not the one w/The Google Flick, that may not lift anyone's spirits.
Barb, the midnight W/C may B able to offer him her mandatory CC and pushing. That way too The PO will heal. Barb is a Witch and she may be able to whip up some strange brew......

From a citizen:

Thank you officer, all officers, first responders, and families and friends of first responders. Thank you. You rarely get the thanks you deserve so I want to emphasize it here.

Myself and my family give thanks for you and pray for your safety. We recognize it requires a uniquely courageous and self sacrificing type of person to do your job or be a family member of one who does.

Thank you for protecting us even off duty. Thank you for missing your kids sports game so mine can play safely knowing that protectors are out protecting. Thank you for missed birthdays, holidays, graduations, etc so my family can enjoy their events safely. Thank you for understanding and demonstating sacrifice for the good of someone besides yourself every single shift. It is one of the most valuable demonstations I try to point out to my children.

I plan on supporting you all through any means I can. I know my first responsibility as a citizen is to take care of those who protect me so I plan on doing all I can to vote for those who will protect and honor the pensions you all are entitled to contractually. I plan on highliting stories like this to others in my life to balance the negative media created spin. What I need to know is what else can I do in regards to fighting for your pensions?

Thank you again and to the injured officer, best wishes for a speedy and thorough recovery.

He announced his office and took police action, hence he was on duty and will be covered accordingly. Sadly, he will still get run through the wringer by the medical section and the committee on finance to pay all his expenses but will prevail, after fending off collection agencies etc.
best wishes for a full recovery!

Once he announces office and takes police action he's on duty. And you turn in a slip.

Off duty injury is while you are not taking police action. Skiing accident etc....
