Porter Case Going National

We'd say the so-called "Innocence Project" is a textbook study in how not to handle capital murder cases:
  • One of the guidelines of liberal propaganda is that if you are going to lie, lie big.  Global warming, Obamacare, Romney’s a heartless guy. It might be time to add to the list the famous Anthony Porter exoneration in Chicago in 1999.

Not only is Porter likely guilty of the double murder he was initially charged with, an innocent man therefore sits in an east central Illinois prison serving a 37-year sentence. His probable framing was largely orchestrated by a since-discredited “journalism” professor and his students at Northwestern University, a cowed prosecutor’s office in Cook County, and a Chicago media that enabled the whole charade.
And the Sun Times lobs another few shells into the exploding mess:
  • At the heart of the memo, obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, is an explosive allegation that’s never been made public.

The memo alleges that the decision by Cook County prosecutors to drop the murder case against Porter and charge Alstory Simon — who made a videotaped confession to the murders — was a “political” one.

“A political decision was made that this case should be put to rest because it caused too much publicity against the imposition of the Death Penalty, caused great doubt about the validity of death penalty punishment for mentally challenged individuals and incited a significant amount of negative press concerning Death Row reversals,” the memo said.
So for the pure sake of political expedience, Porter was released, and whether by accident of design, Governor Ryan had his opportunity to show his true RINO colors and suspend the death penalty. We know ASA's and the States Attorney himself are immune from prosecution and punitive damages, but is Preckwinkle's bailiwick liable for putting the innocent replacement "offender" in prison? This part is ridiculous:
  • Then-Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas Gainer Jr. presided over a grand jury in 1999 that was convened to reinvestigate the murders and the circumstances surrounding Simon’s confession.

[...] On Sept. 7, 1999, Simon appeared before Judge Thomas Fitzgerald to enter his guilty plea. The judge asked about the evidence that prosecutors would have presented if the case had gone to trial.

Gainer, the prosecutor, said he would have presented testimony about Simon’s confession and his wife’s statement implicating him.

He also said he would have presented four witnesses who saw people in the bleachers and heard gunshots.

But Gainer did not tell the judge that the witnesses were favorable to Simon and implicated Porter.
Some people ought to be disbarred over this.

So the Innocence Project lived up to its name and put an innocent man in prison while freeing the guilty one. Sounds about right for Chicago communists. Now keep voting for those progressives!

Fitz and Gainer...MACHINE made and what was gap before they made Gainer a judge? Should "Defense" Attorney Rimland take a hit; or should the judge or ASA for not questioning how the guys who get the confession then supply a lawyer. Wouldn't that be kind of like saying Burge beat the crap out of someone, they confessed and then ole John gave them one of his Western Avenue defense lawyer buddies. Kind of like when former Det. Byrne switched over...before he got DISBARRED.

Maybe next they'll take at why our own government's decided to create a "torture panel" in Illinois to actively SEEK people claiming to be victims of Burge.

Gotta love it when your own government goes fishing for convicted criminals to give millions in vote money to.

The tragedy of this is that every time the city settled a bull shit lawsuit it was added to all future civil complaints against police to show a "pattern" detectives/police officers. Police officer reputations are dragged through the mud to this day due to the actions by these so call groups.

As I previously stated on this log, me and my partner, Det D Gray, wanted the truth be told. Now comes word that this was a political decision to free the original offender and charge another person with the murders. Shortly thereafter we were sued for $40 million dollars, accusing us of many wrongdoings. We were tried and was found innocent of the charges. If one reads the trail transcripts and reads the book "Crooked City" by Martin Prieb one can see that we did nothing wrong in our investigation. This new revelation goes to show everyone what our politicians think of not only the police but the public as well. Me and Denny, as well as our families, went thru hell over this
trail. Now I have a question: Was there a political decision to sue us? I hope that someone is held accountable for their actions. Respectfully Ret Sgt Chas W Salvatore

"Innocence Project" and Northwestern are full o' shit! Naming something after the desired outcome can make the naive (or stupid) actually believe the name itself. This is what happens when we allow liberal do-gooders to tamper with blind lady justice. Our system of justice is not perfect, but it is still the best in the world.

Something else about that case that I remember after reading this stuff: the armed robbery conviction that Porter had should have precluded any damage claim. It had nothing to do with the murders . Different date, nobody else confessed to it, no witness recanted on it.

So, even if he didn't do the murders he still was in jail legitimately on that, so no damages.

BUT, the SAO for some reason nobody could figure out at the time ' cleared' him on that , and shortly after that he sues.

The question that should really be asked now is who made THAT decision and why?

Well, if you blamed the media for this mess in the first place, it now looks like the media is keeping this issue alive despite what northwestern and the politicos want. I can't wait for a press conference from George Ryan on this matter.

In spite of what these low-life pukes pulled off not one will pay a price, not in Crook-fucking County or here Illinois. To add insult to injury not one of those maggots will even apologize. The reason being is, they're liberals, and the *nice thing* about being a liberal is that its like love and: "Love means never having to say you're sorry".

Then!...if those mean old right-wing conservative extremist 'haters' keep going after that libtard cabal, the Libtard Moonbats will go into fucking Attack Mode -- they'll be the goddamn *victims* in the bullshit that they created, because.....here it comes, y'all better hold on...."They Meant Well"!!

Yeah, okay, Porter's guilty as sin and a stone-cold psycho killer was set free to roam the streets once again. And a few laws were broken along the way, and they set up an innocent person to spend his life in prison. That's really all besides the point and isn't that important 'in the grand scheme of things'. The important thing is that the racist Death Penalty was overturned and the ultimate goal was achieved by them, 'our betters', and Illinois joined the other 'Enlightened States' in America.

Not to mention that, 'It's For The Children'. So knock it off knuckle-draggers, and maybe think about giving them all a Medal instead. (Grrrrrrr.... f--king liberals.)

This Porter?simon case was half assed and handled poorly; someone should have to be punished as a result. What happened to Due Diligence?

I cannot think of any appropriate adjectives to describe the deceit and the inane idealism of liberals and progressives.

They are people who cannot deal with reality so they are persuaded by fantasy to create a world that does not exist.

They try to make laws and programs that do not deal with the reality of evil criminally minded people and a large sub-culture that does not want to improve their station in life through education, hard work and genuine responsibility.

The media in this city have collectively contributed to spread of these false ideals and leftist concepts.

God help this city and the good citizens who have remained, but it is time these citizens STOP VOTING for the same politicians who created this mess. It is time for them to stop supporting a media that lies to them in the reporting of the news.

A few more years to go to retirement and I hope that I can sell my house and simply leave this ridiculous city.

Well... I've seen the Porter case questioned for years by a certain few. Namely Martin Preib and Bill Crawford. Preib actually published a book, among a few articles that have appeared over the years, summarizing this case. The book is called "Crooked City".

Only after the endless efforts of the above mentioned, this case is finally getting the attention it deserves. And, where are the responses from the involved parties.

My favorite line in the soft soaping the Tribune gives these characters is the one where the guy who got 8 million from the city on top of the 100K he got from the state says...he turned to crack cocaine "to help ease my mind"....And then I wonder, why the fuck do I even bother to read this rag?
