Giant Walking Puppets

No, not the City Council - these are imported!
  • Chicago has come up with a really big idea to boost tourism: giant puppets roaming the city's streets for days in an elaborate theatrical presentation.

A multimillion-dollar deal is in the works to make Chicago the stage for Royal de Luxe, a French street theater company featuring marionettes as tall as 50 feet, during the summer of 2016, according to sources.

Chicago would be the first foray into the U.S. for Royal de Luxe, and officials confirmed Friday that talks are underway to bring the giant puppets to town.
We suppose part of the allure is that while you watch the show, Rahm will come by and pick tourists' pockets. Seriously, where do they come up with this crap?

Hey Rahm, how about you stop wasting money and fulfill your lawful obligation to fund the pensions. With over a BILLION in your TIF fund you should have no problem catching up...

How in the hell does Rahm think he will progress if he ain't on the side of 'good'. Puppets from France be damned...is Rahm stupid or what...and the 'folks' at the Hall go along with him?? Stop the madness!!!! Investigate Rahm's spending to other states on the Taxpayer..he belongs at city hall, not out of state, throwing extravagant parties in $1,800.00 hotel rooms per night....and he ain't even funny...actually, Rahm is BORING!!! I know cause I've been in his company....BORING!!!! Rahm Emanuel is BORING!!!! Why do folks even donate to him?? He is a dork.

Do these giant puppets come with their own armed security? They will need it. Seriously, street theater is great, just not in Chicago. I tried a gig as a street minstrel once. I gave up after the third time I was assaulted and robbed. And this was after I paid protection.

Finally, the newspaper is looking at the 56 out of state trips Rahm has made in his 2 1/2 years as a Mayor of Chicago....many at Taxpayer expense....all not note-worthy. Extravagant, YES...entertaining while in a room costing $1,800.00 per night while Seniors Pensions are being cut. What a Bull.... city this is...and we all believed the democrat alderman, senators and reps in the districts...hogwash...we've been had..we've been pimped. March them through 011 or 007 when they get here and see how many come out pregnant, high or with a CB number written on their hand.

And until these ginormous marionettes arrive, Rahm's defacto puppets - those working VRI - will have to suffice.

Another STUPID idea.

Come to Chicago and while you're taking a picture of a giant walking puppet with your iPhone, you will be immediately targeted by Chicago's street criminals to steal your phone.

Great idea.

Need to upgrade Chicago's image? Crack down on crime - HARD.

Save the puppets and clean up N. Michigan Avenue.

- Proud to have not come to downtown for the last 3 years to spend any money on shopping, entertainment and restaurants.

Predictable headlines in Chiraq:

"What? The puppet got stolen?"

"What? The puppet got tagged by a graffiti artist?"

"What? Someone shot at the puppet?"

"What? Someone shot at the puppeteer?"

"What? Someone threw a road flare at the puppet and it's on fire?"

"What? Someone crashed into the puppet with their ?"

"What? Someone crashed up on the sidewalk because they were driving while intoxicated and were freeked out by the puppet?"

"What? A dog pissed on the puppet?"

"What? The puppet got a parking ticket?"

"What? Tickets didn't sell, and now Chiraq has to make up the difference because that's what they promised?" followed by the ever-predictable "What? Now we're in arbitration because they're just blowing off the contract terms?"

What a fucking waste of time and money... Anything not to FOCUS on the problems of crime, underfunded (awwww, hell, who am I kidding - bankrupt) pensions, lack of manpower in the Police and Fire forces, crappy schools, high taxes, high fees, fleeing businesses, and rats.

No thanks. We don't need, or want, any stupid frogs or any more stupid ideas to attract more tourists to this death trap of a city. Until the City of Chicago is ready, willing, and able to properly staff CPD, citizens and tourists alike are at serious risk, especially in the downtown area. Who the hell is supposed to keep crime down on the Mag Mile, while all those extra tourists are looking around, gawking at the Bean or skyscrapers? I can see it again- a bunch of out of towners getting jacked while admiring a Picasso or some architecture downtown. Maybe the Rahm-hole can have some large, 5-story hot air balloon dressed in CPD garb, to make it look like the police can really see all and be everywhere ("omnipresence"), or even another marionette, 'sans' officer, But the sad reality is that blue light cameras, speed zone cameras, (hey what the hell is up, with that speed scam-camera set up N/B Central around Belle Plaine? No signs, no warning, WTF???), red light cameras, etc. Sure, the City has enough scams in place to pickpocket $$$ from these tourists (did I mention the expensive City parking?), but we can't even pretend we're keeping them safe while they're here? There just aren't enough coppers on the street to keep the residents safe, let alone some camera-toting visitors.

Maybe they'll make a group of puppets that are in their late teens/early 20's in white t-shirts airbrushed with the likeness of a murdered cousin to spice up the Gold Coast. The marionettes can have their strings pulled to simulate the theft of an iPhone or purse. Or better yet, have them simulating a wilding episode while sitting on top of one of the left over decorative cows that were so popular.

Where are our ads talking about Dailey and Rahm stealing TIF money for pet projects? I'm tired of only hearing about how f**ked up these two are on here. Why haven't we the people(including fire) began to descend on city hall like the rest of the unions. Do we not deserve to make sure the mass public know who is at fault for the pension woes? Does the public not need to know the city isn't really broke? Why do we sit back and watch Rahm and the media tarnish our name and retirements with threats of raising property taxes to pay for pensions? When the city already has the money to pay the balloon payments already! I'm tired of typing away my frustrations, when is it our turn to put the heat on the politicians?

The Next Shoe Just Dropped: Court Denies Attorney-Client Privilege

In the Land of the Free, people grow up hearing a lot of things about their freedom.

You're told that you live in the freest country on the planet. You're told that other nations 'hate you' for your freedom.

read more: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-04-19/next-shoe-just-dropped-court-denies-attorney-client-privelege

And you're told that you have the most open and fair justice system in the world.

This justice system is supposedly founded on bedrock principles-- things like a defendant being presumed innocent until proven guilty. The right to due process and an impartial hearing. The right to counsel and attorney-client privilege.

Yet each of these core pillars has been systematically dismantled over the years:

1. So that it can operate with impunity outside of the law, the federal government has set up its own secret FISA courts to rubber stamp NSA surveillance.

According to data obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Center, of the nearly 34,000 surveillance requests made to FISA courts in the last 35-years, only ELEVEN have been rejected.

Unsurprising given that FISA courts only hear the case from the government's perspective. It is literally a one-sided argument in FISA courts. Hardly an impartial hearing, no?

2. The concept of 'innocent until proven guilty' may officially exist in courts, but administratively it was thrown out long ago.

These days there are hundreds of local, state, and federal agencies that can confiscate your assets, levy your bank account, and freeze you out of your life's savings. None of this requires a court order.

By the time a case goes to court, you have been deprived of the resources you need to defend yourself. You might technically be presumed innocent, but you have been treated and punished like a criminal from day one.

3. Attorney-Client privilege is a long-standing legal concept which ensures that communication between an attorney and his/her client is completely private.

In Upjohn vs. the United States, the Supreme Court itself upheld attorney-client privilege as necessary "to encourage full and frank communication between attorneys and their clients and thereby promote broader public interests in the observance of law. . ."

It doesn't matter what you're accused of-- theft. treason. triple homicide. With very limited exceptions, an attorney cannot be compelled to testify against a client, nor can their communications be subpoenaed for evidence.

Yet in a United States Tax Court decision announced on Wednesday, the court dismissed attorney client privilege, stating that:

"When a person puts into issue his subjective intent in deciding how to comply with the law, he may forfeit the privilege afforded attorney-client communications."

In other words, if a person works with legal counsel within the confines of the tax code to legitimately minimize the amount of taxes owed, that communication is no longer protected by attorney-client privilege.

Furthermore, the ruling states that if the individuals do not submit attorney-client documentation as required, then the court would prohibit them from introducing any evidence to demonstrate their innocence.

...and yet another shoe. Presence Health Care, who bought out Resurrection (and may close OLR even though they're promising not to), has added wording on some forms that you "waive doctor-patient confidentiality."

That's a real confidence-builder. Tell the doc what's really bothering you, and he might be able to help. Best to keep quiet and just moan or something.

...and the same people then hand you a pamphlet about "your responsibility to be more proactive in your own care."

*

...and on top of that we have Rahm's brother, Ezekiel Emanuel, all hot and bothered that the Hippocratic Oath causes inefficiency and "overuse of medical care."

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052970203706604574374463280098676

Uh huh, and PRECISELY how does one quantify the exact amount of dollars brought in by tourism as a result of something?

Did total revenues go up $20M? What other confounding factors were in play? Weather? Other events? Reduced taxes? Holiday weekend?

There's a lot of 'fungibility' that goes on with these numbers, so unless you have these bullshit things in a stadium, and sold $20M worth of tickets, I'm not buying the claim...
